I know that we've had Secret Santa in 2003 and 2004, so are we doing it again this year? I missed out on 2003's event as I wasn't a member, and forgot to sign up in 2004, so it would be my first Secret Santa at UD.com! :D[/url]

Yes we are, and that'd be awesome if you'd partake! I'm hoping to make a post about this around November 1 or shortly after. That's allowed for plenty of time in the past and any earlier than that is just too early for Christmas, Chanukah, or Kwanzaa!

That reminds me of a Simpsons quote...

"Well, folks, that's the end of Krusty's nondenominational holiday funfest...So, have a merry Christmas, happy Chanukah, kwazy Kwanza, a tip-top Tet, and a solemn, dignified Ramadan. Now a word from *my* god: our sponsor."

Wow, I just read the threads about Secret Santa and this sounds too cool. I'm not sure if I'll be able to play though, since my Dad absolutely hates me buying off the 'net. I won't give up though, this idea sounds very cool! I mean getting a DVD from this years Summertime challenge was crazy beyond words, but if I play then I can create a list of DVDs and/or CDs that are not just limited to Summertime release. I need to play!!!
How many people are going to be able to play this year?

Don't have a set number of how many can partake right now. Generally, only established members who post on a regular basis are eligible, but it really depends on how many are interested. I think last year we had about 14 people or so participating. And no deadbeats - that only happened the first year we did it (2003) with someone who was an established member.

FYI, if Internet purchases are no good for you, you could also buy something in a store (doesn't have to be a DVD, you see) and mail it via the post office. Most people send in something personal too, like a card or note, too. So you could do both in one, if you weren't able to buy online. But you'll have to make sure you've got parent's permission and a way to deliver before signing up.

Why didn't I think of buying something in a store!? There is no problem with that, except if I get assigned a person who only wants DVDs(like myself  ), and American ones at that. I can only purchase Australian(Region 4) DVDs. They will probably not work on American DVD players, unless they were Region-code free. But other than that and my parent's permission(they still haven't woken up yet- it's 9:19 Australian time!), I'm good.

According to the 2004 thread, he got Home on the Range the DVD.

I'm hovering between participating this year or not. If I do, I'll most likely send a gift via amazon, since I hate going to the post office, though I will send a nice card separately through snail mail ;)

Yeah, Thanks. I needed it to semi-complete my collection. I had a great expierence with it last year, it really hightens your relationships with your fellow UD members. I can't wait until this years.

Okay, I've been looking at some of the threads containing people's previous wish lists, and it seems that they all pretty much wanted DVDs. I guess that I'll buy DVDs as well, considering I don't want some unlucky person to get a book or something just because I can't send them the right region code DVD. But I think that I'll have to be partnered up with someone who has a Region-code free DVD player. I don't want it to be unfair.
EDIT- I haven't actually asked my parents yet if I can partake in this, but I think they would, since they allowed me to go in the Summertime Challenge. And since three people already know my details on this site, they won't mind another person knowing. But I'll ask them anyway.

Essentially, your address details are given to Luke. He picks someone else's details and gives it to you, whilst another person gets your details. You buy that person a present (don't worry, there'll be a wish list thread :P), whilst another person buys you a present. The thing is that it's all done in secret, so until one actually recieves the present (there should be a note from the sender revealing their identity), nobody knows who's getting a present for another person!
