after disney starts selling thier movies on bluray will they start rereleasing thier classics all over again

That's what I would guess... but I have this feeling there are other threads on this topic... maybe not. I can't remember where I've read this stuff.


And from what I've heard from others- these new players will be backwards compatible? Like we could play our DVDs on them?

Supposedly HD DVD and blu ray are both being released as they couldn't stop butting heads over it. So for me that means that I'm not buying ANYTHING until one beats out the other, AND becomes so popluar that the players aren't expensive anymore.

I'm just bitter over the whole thing and won't be upgrading anything for probably 10 years or more

I think they are planing on it if it takes off (But I hope it does not as I have said it will become like DVHS and Bata tapes were to become even better than VHS. )

I think I can say as well as anyone that, no matter what video standard we use in a few years, Disney IS going to release their classics over again eventually.

but, who is realy to buy a new Blue-ray DVD player when the DVD have just finally taked the former position of the VHS?

I meanm to change so fast of a entretaining system with a diferent laser doesn`t mean that our DVD collection will be usless in few years unless the HD-DVD or the Blue-ray are perfectly compatible with the normal DVDs?

Blu Ray will be too busy fighting with HD DVD. It’ll be like SACD vs DVD-A.

Exactly. So the real question here is probably: If there's going to be a format war, what will the outcome be? ...and not whether Disney is going to release their "classics" over again.

If Blu-Ray becomes the main format they probably will. Even though it seems like Blu-Ray is "winning" the war right now, I'm not counting HD-DVD out yet. Anything can happen. Who knows DVDs could still be the main format for a long time, and Blu-Ray/HD-DVD becomes something similar to SACD/DVD-A or even Laserdiscs.

Personally I'm sitting out on this right now and just enjoying my DVDs. When the battle of the new HD formats is over whatever becomes the main format is what I will buy.

Just read the info tonight. From the looks of it HD-DVD looks dead in the water. Hopefully Blu-Ray will deliver. Not talking about picture and sound, but the cost issue. It needs to be around the same price as DVDs are now to completely take over in my opinion.

Also, compatibility is very important.
I mean, I don`t want to trash all my DVD`s or need to have 3 diferent system on my living room(VHS,DVD and Blue-ray)
So, do you think that it will be a double laser system?

im thinking of selling all my old full screen vhs movies so i can buy them on dvd but i dont know now lol

But I suspect that future upgrades (from DVD) won't be quite as significant as the upgrade from VHS to DVD.

This could depend a lot on your the quality and size of your "display device", though.

My own experience:

I started collecting Disney animation on VHS around 1990. But eventually, still not knowing any alternatives, I got slightly annoyed at the frequently rather "crappy" quality of even quite recent titles on video.

A bit over ten years ago (late 94 - early 95) I got a laserdisc player and started buying some of the Disney titles on that format. It was quite a bit more expensive, but I found that justified by a considerable, sometimes stunning, leap in quality.

Over the past few years I've bought quite a few of Disney's DVDs (but not bothered to get all of the "Classics"). Some of them are definitely improvements over their LD counterparts, but not so much that I got really impressed.

Admittedly, I might have appreciated the improvements more with a different "display device" - I've got a "middle-class" 4:3 set.

What's my point? The subjective improvement is going to be quite stunning to make me upgrade a whole collection. In my experience the upgrade from VHS tape to disc is the most important upgrade.

But if you make your comparisons on a big projector system or so, I realize that the picture could be different.

i think blueray will be here by 2006 right so i might as well wait cause soon i can buy all my favorite movies on widescreen bluray yay

Well, I have a new 52 inch RCA HDTV and I love it!!! Watching programs in HD is amazing!! I can't wait until the 25th when I get Titanic in High Defination. That will be great!! I can't picture seeing a cartoon in HD though.
