If Disney wanted to attract more boys, this movie this is what it would be like.
Title:German Pie(you know how boys like German pie )
Director:Spike Lee
Cast: Enimem,Beyonce,KiD,The Black Eyed Peas(and many more ganster rappers)
Plot: Flynn Rider(Enimem)finds a bootylicious blonde girl name Rapunzel(Beyonce).Rapunzel is raised by a mother *beep*ing *beep*.Flynn Rider kills mother *beep*ing *beep* and has a ride with Rapunzel.
I know it sounds stupid but that's a stereotype of movies that attract boys.Ok now you guys can have fun by finding other ways for Disney to attract a male audience.

I have made a discovery on YouTube! This is pretty low-quality, and most of what you're about to see is in rough animation and storyboard form..... but here it is: a prototype of the preview for Tangled!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsC18NRKCBs
Things to watch for:
Yup, the ad is pretty Flynn-centric. We've seen it coming.
We get a look at Mother Gothel! (well, in storyboard form, anyway)
The tagline is... wait for it... "Rinse. Rescue. Repeat."
We get to see the cute little chameleon.
The first meeting between Rapunzel and Flynn is very interestingly staged, IMO.
No, we don't have any music yet, I don't think. The only song we really hear appears to be "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." But I'm sure whatever Menken gives us will be delightful.
It shows promise.... It's not quite what I was hoping for... But it seems like it will be quite good in its own right. And besides, marketing campaigns don't always highlight a movie's true colors. I feel that this ad, boy-centric and silly, only shows us a tiny piece of what Tangled will be.
Oh, and I absolutely love how Rapunzel uses her hair!
Any other thoughts?

First off, great find Margos!
I admit, the opening put me off a bit. It is all Flynn, but towards the end of the trailer it's a bit more balanced between Rapunzel and Flynn, and they play the song "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" for heaven's sakes.
You could easily mistake this for a DreamWorks movie, but I think (or, hope) that's what Disney wants. We have no idea what the content of the actual film will be like, but I just hope it's successful.
And to be honest- I've grown to like "Tangled". It's really not the bad, and it's just a tad bit more interesting than "Rapunzel", but then again, that must be blasphemy.
Oh and one more thing. The villian, Gothel doesn't "look" evil at all, more like a homey motherly figure and I'm excited about that!

Thanks!
And you know, the name is starting to grow on me, too. It seemed odd at first, but maybe that's only because I've been calling it "Rapunzel" for a very long time. Tangled is better than a lot of the other titles they could have chosen, that's for sure. And I think it's almost cute with the line on the trailer "It takes two to get Tangled."
And Gothel reminds me of someone, but I can't think of who.... Actually, she vaguely reminds me of some storyboard sketches of Rosetta on the deleted scenes of the Tinker Bell DVD. It's definitely an interesting look.... I mean, our last epic villain (Facilier) looked seriously evil. But Gothel.... she's going to be a little different, I think. I don't even think they'll be marketing her as a villain at first, to be honest. Maybe they'll keep that hidden.... (of course, I'm sure most people will see it coming just because of the fairy tale).

Thanks Margos. I guess they've succeeded in making a Dreamworks movie, pop music and comedic characters. Tangled suits this Dreamworks film quite well as its obvious they don't intend on making a classic fairy tail here but the next Shrek.
My excitement level has almost completely died after seeing that trailer. Here I thought we were going to see a classic called Rapunzel. Now I really don't know what to expect.

After mulitple views, I couldn't disagree with you more, jpanimation. The first time I saw it, I was a tiny bit concerned. But look at the animation (rough as it is). It definitely looks more like Bolt than like Shrek. It looks really good!
And that pop music is not going to be in the film. Alan Menken? Remember?
And what's wrong with comedic characters? Dopey, anyone?
Remember how everyone freaked because of the fart joke in the TPatF trailer? And that was definitely a return to something wonderful. This is, CG or not, the next step in that something. You know, if this is another Renaissance, this could be the BatB to TPatF's TLM.... And that would be like a dream come true!

I know people who worked on both of those movies (Bolt, Shrek), that was the style they were going for. I wasn't talking about the animation style when I was comparing it to Shrek. I was talking about the story/content direction it seems to be taking.Margos wrote:But look at the animation (rough as it is). It definitely looks more like Bolt than like Shrek. Who's to say it won't be there? Sure they have Alan Menken who will hopefully make some fantastic songs/score for this film, but who's to say with certainty that one or two pop songs won't make their way into this film? You're most likely correct in your assessment that they wont but why market the film that way?Margos wrote:And that pop music is not going to be in the film. Alan Menken? Remember?
Dopey was your typical comedic sidekick and most of the time I don't have a problem with that. The comedic characters here are the main characters (Flynn, Rapunzel). From what I've seen, they both act like stereotypical Dreamworks characters.Margos wrote:And what's wrong with comedic characters? Dopey, anyone?

I am pleasantly surprised by the subtlety of the humor and tone. The animation looks REALLY gorgeous. The scene where Flynn is tossed around by Rapunzel's hair, like a puppet is really well done! Rapunzel looks awesome, the scenery and sets looks incredible, even unrendered. There is one shot of Rapunzel running down the stairs across the room with her hair trailing behind her in full color which is just incredible. Pascal looks cute, Flynn looks interesting, and Rapunzel, I'm loving what they did with her as a character, naieve, cute, funny, timid but curious and out there. I'm LOVINg this! Can't wait to see something in full quality, fully rendered and done to see the style and detail of the movie.
But this is AWESOME and I have no problems with this type of trailer and music etc. It does set the tone, there's plenty of time to highlight the fairytale aspect and Alan Menken music. Btw, it was to be expected that we got a long Flynn set-up, he's the one who introduces us to Rapunzel and it's their dynamic together that carries the movie.

I guess there's that possibility... but it's never happened before with a Menken film. I mean, be reasonable. Was "Back in Black" in Lilo & Stitch? I really, really, really don't think that they will, and it's silly to fault a film for pop music in its trailer.jpanimation wrote: Who's to say it won't be there? There's a difference between funny and absurd. Flynn really does remind me of Naveen, he's very funny and witty. And I really don't see "comedic" in Rapunzel. If I had to compare her attitude to another Disney princes.... She's something of a cross between Pocahontas and Ariel... with Mulan's toughness. In addition, we all know that Disney's trailers here lately have been putting emphasis on silliness that doesn't really have so much emphasis in the actual film. Ray's farting, for example.Dopey was your typical comedic sidekick and most of the time I don't have a problem with that. The comedic characters here are the main characters (Flynn, Rapunzel). wow, you fell for that? Disney just wants you to believe this is an outrageous Dreamworks comedy. That's why they play pop songs during the trailer and call it Tangled. Because now it appeals to both girls AND boys. And last time I (and Disney) checked, Dreamworks films... wait for it.... make money!.... LOTS of money.
In reality, it's still a classic musical/romantic comedy. No matter how hard Disney tries to disguise this fact.

Actually, I remember someone said that the name was "The Secret Tower" or something like that. I think this trailer has just been strung together, now that they've finalized the name change.jpanimation wrote:On a side note, it looks like this was the trailer people saw with the survey a little while back. I wonder why they didn't mention the title being changed to Tangled?

I won't pass final judgment until I see a completed trailer, but it doesn't look half-bad, I have to say. Like Margos, I've gotten used to the "Tangled" title and it does seem to fit with how they're marketing it (the finished film could be completely different, though).
And Flynn definitely looks like a humourous character in the Naveen mold, which is always a good thing.
As for the "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" song in the trailer, remember that this is un-finished, so it could just be a temp track used in place of a possible background score or one of Menken's songs from the film.
