Questions/Thoughts on Sleeping Beauty DVD

Does anyone else feel or almost feel that a Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition is unnecessary? I am sure that they can scrounge up some new material for it if they wanted to (the little featurette at the end of the 1997 VHS release is good), and if they are able to do so, oh, I will most certainly buy it.
The reason I ask is because I feel that Sleeping Beauty: Special Edition is already a FANTASTIC DVD...my second favourite Disney DVD, after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I'm sure that if they wanted to, they could top the SE with an even BETTER PE, but..will they? I know this is still several years away, and I'll almost bet that the reason they added Sleeping Beauty to the Platinum line was because Aurora was the only one of the six princesses whose movie WASN'T originally slated to go Platinum, and with the Princess line as huge as it is now, wouldn't it be dandy to be able to bring out Sleeping Beauty again.
Does anyone else love the Sleeping Beauty SE or have any thoughts/ideas on what we may find on the Platinum?

I don't understand why they didn't put it out as a Platinum Edition originally to begin with.

I just don't think it's as popular in the rest of the world as in USA.

I'll just be kind of annoyed to spend money on a decent DVD that I already have, just because it's a Platinum Edition.
*grr* Another way for Disney to earn more moolah off of me.

I have the Special Edition but when the Platinum Edition comes out I will buy it because I am sure that they will add some new material on the DVD.

Are you kidding? Sleeping beauty is being released as a PE? That's ridiuclous! The Special Edition that's already out has more than enough stuff on it. If a PE comes out, I refuse to buy it.

Once again, in May 2003, it was announced that Pinocchio, Fantasia, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty would be added to the Platinum line.
And the SE has been OOP since January 2004, so it's not readily available for people to buy (like me), unless I find it used somewhere in good condition.

I'm glad that it has been added, because I didn't get to pickup the SE when it was out. Now that its OOP its hard to find one in good condition, so re-releasing it as a PE is a good ideal so more people can buy and enjoy this movie.
I'm sure it will have new features and maybe a new transfer.

one of the reasons for a Platinum re-release would be to show the whole image, as Warner did in the recently remastered Ben Hur

this and other reasons have been discussed a few times on UD, one of them here: <a href="

Isidour.. what's that? The original dubbing?
'Til then, Sleeping Beauty sleep on....

My dvd player has a "zoom out" function; when used, you can see more of the image from side-to-side, however the people look reallll small. I'm fairly happy with the current SB dvd. But if a platinum version is years away, by then they'll be on to blu-ray or hddvd or whatever will be the standard, and you'll all probably want to upgrade anyway. Hmmm....that gives me an idea for a new thread...

I think that a platinum edition release of Sleeping Beauty would be almost unneccessary, too. The special edition release is fantastic!

Yeah, I think that's what he's talking about. In another thread, he was vocally upset that they used a new/different Spanish dubbing instead of the original.

Well then he should buy the LD that has it, and have himself a super Deluxe Multiformat/Aluminium Discs Edition

(dethicorps
TM has done this for The Lion King)

Ahh yes, that zoom out feature lets you see ALL the image that's on the DVD by shrinking the DVD image smaller than the 5-10% overscan you TV set has from factory. But then you're still seeing only what the DVD shows (which corresponds to the "DVD" image on the piccie I posted above). The Technirama negative has even more image that's still missing (as you can see on the "Technirama" image on the piccie above) I don't remember the exact figure (maybe Joe remembers from a long email i sent him like a year ago with bigger technical comparison pics with Projector Apertures grid lines etc

) but it was like at least 15% of the image area missing, maybe up to 20%. or more
Technirama (35mm Anamorphic shot sideways ) is one of those odd film formats that's not very common. Like Ben Hur's UltraPanavision (70mm Anamorphic), VistaVision (35mm shot sideways) or CINERAMA (three 35mm strips projected side by side) or Cinemascope55 (55mm Anamorphic) (Not to be comfused with 35mm magnetic sound Cinemascope (35mm Anamorphic) which is also 2.55 wide) so usually video transfers are made from common 35mm reductions of odd format films, ocassionally sometimes from 70mm versions of them. So if this more common versions are used they might be cropping some part of the original image done at the original optical duping stage.
For example Technirama is 2.25 aspect ratio. A Scope print from it might be done as 2.55, 2.35, 2.40, 2.39 depending on the year/sound format

A 70mm Print would be 2.20.
carry on

Disney's just begging for a boycott

Which I'd glady give to them if they do decide to release a Platinum edition of a film I already own.
Seriously, I must be the only person who likes the DVD and has no problems with it, save for the extras. So ''Princess' infested!
