on the MP 40th anniversary dvd if you go to backstage disney - deconstruction of a holiday scene when Berts twirling Mary in the air he touches her butt and she smacks him. It all happens really, really fast tho.

I agree! The other 2 weren't that funny because I don't think he purposely did it. But when he's looking at her butt!

Maybe, Bert was in the wrong movie all along.

I always thought MP was very well aware of Bert's feelings towards her; and tastefully tried to discourage his interest. That's why in "Jolly Holiday" she sings:


"You'd never think of pressing your advantage--
Forbearance is the hallmark of your creed.
A lady needn't fear when you are near--
Your sweet gentility is crystal clear..."


If I'm right, MP is not singing about Bert as he is, but as she wishes him to be, that is, a celibate companion. I always felt that in these lyrics MP was giving a subtle warning, as if swatting him on the wrist and saying, "ah, ah, naughty boy...purge those lustful thoughts from your heart."

And notice while she sings them that Bert looks a little confused, as if he can't quite believe that she holds him in such high esteem.
