BURBANK, Calif., September 29, 2005 – Gold for the one who proves his courage… Frankincense for the one who learns to be humble… Myrrh for the one who follows his heart… the celebration of the Three Kings is one of the oldest and most important in Christian history. Walt Disney Home Entertainment and Arenas Entertainment present THE 3 WISE MEN, the animated adventures of the Three Kings who are guided by the Star of Bethlehem toward the birth place of Baby Jesus. This wonderful family film is available for the first time on DVD.

Martin Sheen (TV’s “The West Wing”), Emílio Estévez (“The War At Home”), Gold & Platinum recording artist Lupillo Rivera, Latin Grammy® Award winner and Christian recording artist Marcos Witt, world-wide Spanish-language television and recording star José Luís Rodríguez (“El Puma”), Mexican television star Kuno Becker, Grammy® Award nominee and Christian recording artist Jaci Velásquez, and popular Latino theater troupe Culture Clash are the English language vocal talents for the film. Mexican television star Angélica Vale joins many of the cast for the Spanish language version of the film, available on the same DVD.

Richly animated by Animagicstudio, the film’s principle animators are veterans of Walt Disney Pictures’ animated hits “Fantasia 2000,” “Hercules” and “Tarzan.” THE 3 WISE MEN is available November 1 for $19.99 (SRP) on DVD.

Long ago in a faraway land, three wise men—Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar—embarked on an extraordinary adventure. Their task: retrieve the Royal Gifts designated for the King of Kings before the tyrannical ruler Herod takes them for himself!

With a mysterious map and bright new star as their only guides, the brave trio traverses the desert. Soon they are joined by new friends, Tobias, a handsome soldier, and Sarah, a beautiful, rebel warrior—who quickly develop a playful yet fierce rivalry. What this traveling “family” doesn’t know is that Herod’s evil counselor, Belial, is also secretly among them, conjuring deadly scorpions, vicious wolves, and even a giant dragon to destroy them!

To survive and face the challenges at hand, they must draw from each of their personal strengths and skills. Only then do they triumph—gifts in hand! And those are not the only rewards for through this journey Tobias and Sarah come to realize their true love for one another. And for courageously retrieving the gifts, the Three Wise Men receive a truly magical reward: for one day each year—January 6th, the twelfth day of Christmas—they are granted the power to make children’s wishes come true. Their grand adventure proves that, with a little friendship, goodwill and perseverance, anything is possible!

Millions of people from around the world commemorate the day on which the Three Wise Men brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to Baby Jesus. The Three Kings, Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar, followed a bright star to Bethlehem to celebrate the birth of the Destined King. This traditional Christian holiday is known as Three Kings Day, or Dia De Los Reyes, and the Feast of the Epiphany. Celebrated January 6th, Three Kings Day is also the Twelfth Day of Christmas – a tradition widely celebrated by the famous carol, “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”

I see no mention of literal subtitles. I hope Disney doesn't dubtitle it.

I'm sure this is not a permanent thing. At some point, it should receive wide release.

It looks interesting but reading the review it seems they really skimped on this DVD and they just wanted to make a quick buck or bought the rights to it and realized that they couldn't make tons of money from it.

If it's cheap I'll get it.

No I haven't but I don't plan on to.

Animation has never brought us great bible movies, they have often been poor mainly because they try to target to kids more! And no, I didn't like Prince of Egypt either!

Luke has picked it up and he tells you all about it and even answers your question about the Bible in some depth in his review: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/the3wisemen.html

I've been considering getting it or renting it when it becomes a wider release mostly because I am craving something more "exotic". The DVD doesn't sound like they put much effort into it though. Oh and by the way I really enjoyed the review. (Don't know if I have ever said this but it's refreshing to read reviews without a star rating or letter grade system)

I might look into the 3 Wise Men after the Wal-mart exclusive runs out (I dislike exclusive DVDs-Wal-mart, Best buy, doesn't really matter-I boycott exclusive DVDs no matter who sells 'em), but not before. I might look into the Region 2 release-having the extras might be nice. But I don't think I'll buy this until I can see it first.
