It all begins at a secret school in the clouds like none on earth: Sky High, the first and only high

ever assembled. And then there’s Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano). When you’re the son of
the world’s most legendary super hero parents, The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream
(Kelly Preston), people expect you to live up to the family name. The problem is that Will is
starting with no superpowers of his own and, worst of all, instead of joining the ranks of the
“Hero” class, he finds himself relegated to being a “Sidekick.” Now he must somehow survive
his freshman year while dealing with a hilariously overbearing gym coach (Bruce Campbell), a
bully with super speed, and a dangerous rebel with a grudge (and the ability to shoot fire from
his hands)… not to mention the usual angst, parental expectations and girl problems that
accompany teenage life. But as he discovers his true strengths, he also learns that it takes
loyalty and teamwork to truly become a hero!

Music by Michael Giacchino, who wrote the score for Disney/Pixar’s “The Incredibles.” Written

I totally agree, this was one of the worst movies of the past three or four years. There was hardly any believeable story, the acting was second rate, and the production as a whole was pretty shabby. I only paid $5 to see this at a matinee showing and I still feel that I was screwed out of that five dollars. This was a total waste of an hour-and-a-half of my life. If you haven't seen the movie, rent it first, and make sure that the rental is the free one of your rent one get one free. You will really feel cheated if you pay for this film.

A big add on to this..................when I talked with Kurt Russell a few weeks ago when he and Goldie were at the Hotel I work at, he said it was strictly a paycheck and nothing else. So you might consider that before you waste your time and money on this movie.

It definitely won't be in my collection.

I personally was entertained (as were my sister and my 4 year old niece) but I mean, maybe that was just me.

It's in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio. Studios switched from the 2.35:1 ratio to the slightly wider 2.40:1 ratio in the late '70s to better hide film splices. Most studios and movie theaters still refer to it as 2.35:1.

I liked the movie. Whoo-hoo there's bloopers! I found it just plain wrong that Dave Foley was "All-American Boy" even though he's CANADIAN!

Silly you.......that was one of the many jokes in the movie.................LOL

This was seriously one of the worst movies of the year. I gave it a 5/10 (C-). It was so stupid!

My review is up and I couldn't disagree more with the negative sentiments expressed in this thread. I was surprised to like it as much as I did.

As I said in my review, no matter how disappointing as it appeared to be, I think most of the people who have seen it would find plenty to like about it.

As for the film, I thought it was bad as well! WAAAAY too predictable and alot of scenes gave me deja-vu from "The Incredibles". The acting was also pretty stiff as well.

I did like the references to Spider-Man and Fantastic Four however! Aside from that the movie was long and boring!

BTW, WHEN WILL PATRICK WARBURTON GET HIS OWN MOVIE???

I totally agree with Luke on this one. Sky High was easily one of my favorite movies to come out this year. It was such a pleasant surprise, because I didn't have high expectations for it. The movie is basically a parody of super hero movies, and shouldn't be taken seriously as an original super hero movie. It's got a fun story, great characters, and good special effects. The cafeteria scene with the guy who throws fireballs really stood out and was very well done.

www.dvdtalk.com also has a very good reveiw of the DVD.

The trailers for this film really put me off. The concept seemed unoriginal and poorly executed. I think you summed my prejudices up best when you confirmed "To be fair, Sky High's premise isn't brimming with originality...The titular institution even more closely calls to mind X-Men's school operated by Professor Xavier."

The Disney trailers really don't do much for their subjects, actually, with Chicken Little's trailers making the film seem less than appealing. However, it is on my list for the NY as well.

However, now that you've given this a fairly positive review, I am a little more willing to give this a go when it is released on DVD in the New Year.

Another live action film from Disney with 80's music. What is it with Disney and the 80's? First Herbie: Fully Loaded and now this.

Well, the film wasn't original, the story was predictable and odd exceptions aside, the bulk of the story would have been summarised once the viewer got half-way through.

But, as with a lot of stories, the plot wasn't the reason for the film. The reason for the film was to poke gentle fun at the genre, something it did really well. There's been a few superhero spoofs in print and on film, and this was one of the best.

The DVD seems a little weak though. Shame, being as the film exceeded expecations (financially and creatively) and it deserved more. Why no piece on Disney Legend, teh Russell? And, most of all, where's the commentary - even if the director isn't up for one (understandable, if I was a great director (with beard), I wouldn't exactly relish the thought of doing a commentary track of my own), I'm sure the actors would be up for it.

However, I did enjoy the alternative opening, and wish it was included in the movie. The joke about 80's brick sized mobile phones never grows old. I know that sounds sarcastic, but it's not supposed to be. It was the biggest laugh on the disc for me. In a way, it sort of summarises the whole film.

Funny and entertaining, while being unoriginal and somewhat predictable. Never the less it works far better than it should.
