Does anyone else think Lilo has Asperger's?

AS (Asperger's Syndrome) is a lot like autism.

This kinda reminds me of the "Was Suicide on Mulan's mind?" thread because it sort of goes beyond the movie!

I met someone with Asperger's Syndrome once, and he wasn't anything like Lilo.

Quite simply, no. Lilo shows no signs of asperger's syndrome. Usually people who have asperger's are very quiet, very solitary, they don't like being in large groups, they have issues with intimacy even having eye contact with people makes them uncomfortable. So in all honesty no, Lilo displays none of these traits.

Lilo may be ADHD, but I doubt it. I think her behaviour can simply be explained as she is acting out because of her parents' sudden death. She doesn't act like she completely understands all the changes that have gone on since then. And Nani is at a loss herself. Big sister is suddenly a mom. It's a very hard transition. For Nani and Lilo. If anything, Lilo may be depressed and acting out because of it, but I don't think she actually has a medical condition.

Well I'm suprised to see that the subject of Asperger's Syndrome has come back to the forums . Being a person who has Asperger's Syndrome, I don't see any AS in Lilo. I agree with what Siren said about the reason for her behavior is because of her parents' death. Unlike children with Asperger's Syndrome, she tries to be friends with the other kids but is instead made fun of. When I first saw Lilo and Stitch, I also thought that Lilo could have had AS, but after watching the TV series, Lilo appears to be just a normal little girl who enjoys certain things that others don't.

I too have Asperger's. And in a way Lilo has a personality much like an Asperger person. But I must note that Lilo does not completely withdraw herself from others. She wants to fit with others and is having a hard time doing so. At her young age it would be much more difficult to diagnos her.

I have been accused of having some disorders of autism, but I don't have autism/aspergers.

Well, I have autism. I was born with autism.

That could be Asperger's or it could just be you. At this stage in your life. Some people just have that personality, but eventually grow out of that.

Do you have a lot of friends? Since I'm exactly like what ichabod said. I don't have too many friends, but a lot of people know me and like me, because I'm "special". You've got to know me in real life in order to understand my quirks.

I have a few friends from when I was younger and more outgoing, but no, I have no friends whatsoever at my new school.

Mmermm..I did a little research on Asperger's Disease and some of the symptoms applied to me, but I don't think I have it. I took a screening on an AS website and it said I was "moderate", which was 2nd to severe, so yeah. I think what I have is just social anxiety disorder. That's all.

Don't automatically think you have a disorder. A lot of things you describe were me when I was in middle and high school. At 26 now, I am social for the most part, I am also strong willed and independant. How did I get over all my problems? Therapy? Nope. Medication? Not a drop.
How then?

Time. I grew up. I grew out of it.

Well. My friend has Asperger's Syndrome. She was special you know.

Weird to see so many posters have Asperger's; I do too.
I don't think Lilo has Asperger's; Asperger's people have trouble making social connections. There's a barrier you feel around other people; it's hard to achieve that instant familiarity others feel. Just shaking hands and meeting someone can be torture. I hate crowds; I have to force myself just to make a phone call to someone I don't know. I have to force myself all day, every day to deal with other people. But it's got nothing to do with shyness or reticence; it's more like I'm unplugged from the rest of the human race, leaving me with an almost inability to make normal interactions. I have vast coping skills, but oh, do I pay for it later, if I have to deal with too many new people at once. I just feel like I've been torn in two and I recall everything I heard, and every inflection of everyone's voice and every facial expression I saw, then I have to sort it all out in my mind and work through it and figure out what it all meant...sounds absurd, but that's what happens...I can never blow anything off, even the most mundane interactions....they just rattle around in my head for days. That's the best way I can describe it. I would never say that these problems are BECAUSE I'm in my own little world; it's more like I'm so overwhelmed by other's voices, pesonalities and facial expressions that I have to RETREAT into my own little world as a coping mechanism. I don't think Lilo has Asperger's; at her age she'd be more quiet and withdrawn. Believe me, at her age I was not exactly an extrovert.

My quietness is really a pain in the butt when it comes to class participation. I'm very quiet in classes, and in spanish, class participation is 50% of our grade. No, I'm not kidding, its worth a lot more than tests and quizzes!
