The Mirror UK reports that a 12 Year old Boy hanged himself trying to copy a scene he had just seen in "The Pirates of the Caribbean".

When I was 12.... well I'd say I was smart enough to know hanging myself is not a good idea. Most likely a disorder that makes a kid unaware of danger. Pretty tragic when you think about it.

I feel sympathetic that this boy lost his life and possibly did not know the consequences of acting out such a risky scene, but I have to say that it was a really stupid thing to do.

yeah. He does have a disorder, if you read the article you would have found out.

What a poor kid. But with adhd things like that are pretty common, since they are not all there. I have never personally seen a case of adhd but I have heard it is pretty bad. But I have seen plenty of cases of add.

His parents must be very distressed in this time of sorrow.

You'd think the boy would know better but then again, things like this are common with ADHD. They don't really know right from wrong.

News like this has no choice but to bother me. You automatically think the kid must have been either suicidal or just plain stupid. So I say whatever, if adhd is so different from add, than as long as the parents aren't blaming the movie, I don't care about news like this. In fact, why is it news to us, other than the fact that it was a Disney movie? It's not, other than that fact. Unless now we have a thirst for tragedy and want to hear more bad news (perhaps to make ourselves feel better or luckier).

I know, I just thought about that. Do we know whether or not the boy was trying to balance on a sword? Maybe the parents should have explained to him that trying that would have been dangerous. I'm not blaming them at all, but it seems to me that with this condition that the boy would have done somewhat irrational things in the past. That whatever the method to his madness, so to speak, his parents would have to explain things to him that normal kids would never need to hear or know. Did they even know he had adhd? And this example of adhd behavior also, the unawareness of danger, is complete news to me. I always thought I had adhd yet I've always had a very heightened awareness of anything dangerous, I worry all the time. God only knows what that H fully entails... But anyway, it's great the boy had amazing ideas. But it seems to me the boy must have been an accident waiting to happen. Maybe the parents slipped up even though they were used to being prepared to handle his problem, but if they never knew what to do about it... his death seemed inevitable somehow.

now the question is:

Which parents would ever let alone a kid with such mental dissorder, and with a sword also?

See there you go, it not that the kid was stupid. He simply didn't know better and he tragically lost his life. It is very sad when you think about it. And I hope they don't blame the movie for it.

I'd also like to know how he tried to recreate this scene. How did he manage to tie a rope to the ceiling if he's only 12? And how was he balancing on a sword? Did he take an actual sword and shove it into the wall or something??

My guess is that he had a toy sword. I have one! I usually know places where they sell them (sometimes at Disneyland in Adventureland).

I'm just glad the parents are understanding and are saying, "This was a freak accident and nothing more" instead of actually blaming Disney. They seem like good people.

I just hope they get over their lost soon.

Well that's good that they're not going to blame nobody but themselves. I mean who was watching the boy during all of this?
I mean here in Colorado and I don't know about any of the other states or wheater this is a federal law. Anyways there's a law stating that you can't leave a child who is under 16, I think it is home alone.
So what I'm saying is that it was the parents responsibillity to watch him and they didn't and now they don't have a son anymore. It's really a shame and very sad.

Yeah, all this blame and wonder why the kid did that to himself, the blame should be on the parents.

and you care wether or not I read the entire article and assumed something that was stated in it because....? Sorry for painting the roses red, your highness.

it is very bad it happened, but the parents should watch over the kid better if his condition is so bad it causes him to reenact action movie scences that have 99.99 % chance of ending in death in real life.

How tragic. I do agree that the boy should have been watched--or at least not given a sword (toy or real) considering his ADHD.

no wonder what will happen when this kid realize that the doom movie is comming or he watch "The elm street" saga

Answer to Lazario´s post

Me too, then I remember: if the kid make his way to get a sword, to swing on a rope and suffer an accident and maybe slipping away from his parents I think he can get the movies.

It´s just matter of a zapping, or a trip to the nearest blockbuster

I doubt his parents would have let him watch those films.
