which format is more comprehensive in terms of extras?

can someone who has had exposure to both formats compare the snow white laserdisc to the platinum dvd as well as the beauty and the beast laserdisc to the platinum dvd?

As far as I know, neither Snow White or Beauty and the Beast had definitive Archive LaserDisc sets, so it is not posssible to do a direct comparison.

It is probably worth doing a comparison between Sleeping Beauty on LaserDisc and DVD, or when they are available Alice in Wonderland and Pochahontas.

The Collectors Laserdisc for "Snow White" is exactly the same as the platinum DVD. As for Beauty and the Beast I think that there was only a making of and the work in progress version of the film on the Laserdisc so the platinum DVD was better.

The Platinum Snow White DVD and the Snow White LD Box Set are virtually identical regarding the extras. Sadly, I haven't watched the LD Box Set much since the Platinum DVD came out. Also, the Platinum DVD is DD 5.1 (how did they do that from a mono source?) too boot!

The regular BATB LD has no extras at all. You would also need to own the BATB "Work-In-Progress" LD to even match the content that is on disc 1 alone for the Platinum BATB DVD. HOWEVER, there is an interesting 10-15-minute "making of" featurette on the Japanese BATB Box Set (PILA-1232) hosted by David Ogden Stiers (Cogsworth) that is NOT on the Platinum DVD.

From what I know, the Alice DVD should be a direct port from the laserdisc... However, if they add more to it, then it'd be awesome!

Yeah, everything Disney needs to put into their Alice: SE is available on the laserdisc. They only need to add commentary and a well rounded featurette on the making of the film. Pocahontas is even easier to do because the LD already had commentary and a "making of" special hosted by Irene Berdard (Pocahontas' voice), so Disney doesn't need to add a single thing to their Pocahontas: SE.

I would like to see Alice and Pocahontas get fully restored and remastered transfers for the SE DVDs, and in the case of Pocahontas, let's make it anamorphic this time, please. I don't have the laserdiscs, or even a laserdisc player, so a LD port for the extras would be fine with me bonus-wise, but I really do want those restored transfers, especially on Pocahontas.

the "snow white" ld was superior in terms of extras ,at least for the purist.It lacked the commentary but had an effects-music track that was terrific.Also included were hundreds of newspaper articles,ads etc,covering the release,and hundreds of pictures showing the merchandise (from dolls to toothbrushes ).ALSO MISSING in the dvd is the
sequence breakdown with tons of useful information (there is only a storyboard to film comparison on the dvd) .Did i forget to mention the book and the lithos?
So what did we get instead?Better picture,the commentary , barbara streissand and Disney through the decades.
The laserdisc Alice is simply gorgeous in terms of extras (the david hall and mary blair galleries are to kill for).Let's hope Disney keeps the extras from the laser disc and adds on them .
