Future PE's?: When for Peter Pan, Jungle Book, Pinocchio?

I love the Disney Platinum Editions, but the rate of only 2 per year is just so slow! With the next generation dvd's coming out in just 2 years, does anyone know if classics like Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, Pinocchio, One Hundred and One Dalmations, etc. will be out before then? Or if not will they be released in both dvd and HDdvd? I missed out on the Peter Pan Special Edition, and it's one of my all time favorites. Thanks to anyone who might have an answer. :)

It's not definate and the PE should end about two years from now when Disney will stop releasing DVDs and move on to the new format BLU-RAY.

I think it's very laughable to think that disney will stop releasing dvd's in about two years.

Boy are you looking the gift-horse in the mouth on this one. DVD is not going to be replaced so quickly. Besides, what makes you think Blu-Ray is going to be the next format? While it is the superior one, that doesn't mean a thing, afterall VHS won out over BETA. I wouldn't be too optimistic about Blu-Ray, I have a feeling it's not going to be adopted at all and is going to die (And this is my hope). Honestly, why do we need a new format already? DVD is really young still, give it some time to develop and for people to have enough of their players before really forcing them to upgrade. Anyways, moving back on topic.

I'm only waiting for 3 more platinums myself (Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, and The Little Mermaid), now if only they'd all come out back to back. But to address the question asked, in North America it is unknown when these releases will be put out because nothing has ever been said about them by the US distributers.

That is if Blu-Ray makes it out of the format war with HD-DVD.

Also you can't rule out both formats not making it or becoming something like Laserdiscs did. Sure they were better than VHS, but they never replaced the VHS market.

I think DVDs will be here for a pretty good while, even if another format comes out. Most people unless they have high end HDTVs, etc... are not going to see a big enough jump in Blu-Ray/HD-DVD from DVD. DVD caught on because it was a huge step from VHS. Most people are just starting DVD collections in the last 2 years, they don't want a new format yet. Personally I'm happy with current DVDs, and I will be sitting out of the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD battle until I see if one wins or DVD remains the main format. Also I'm hoping that if HD-DVD or Blu-Ray do replace DVDs that they are backwards compatible with DVDs.

I really don't want another format to take over. The DVD is perfect. There are loads of special features, you don't have to rewind, its just perfect.

Well, the rise of these new formats will be a good thing (to me). The prices of DVDs will probably drop!

you also have to take into consideration that only home videophiles will adopt the format early dvd was around in 97, but was not widely adopted until around 2001-02 for the majority of americans...it was gaining steam, but by then the same videophile already had 5 year old players...dvd is around for a while.

Not to mention the fact that standard dvd is compatible with blue ray or HD dvd....think Playstaion PS2....it plays all of the old disc. This will stay standard until someone does away with disc based systems...

Pinnochio should have got a Platium long before Little Mermaid or Alladin.
Same with Dumbo.
Dumbo 2 disc set= :) :) :) :) :)

I can't imagine going from bulky tape to small disk to something bulky again. Then again it could be tiny like the size of your pinky.

No, DVD is not compatible with blu-ray or HD-DVD, you will have to get a new player and TV. However, blu-ray and HD-DVD will be compatible with DVD.

does anyone else think that the bump in date for Lady and the Tramp will add up to releasing the platinums 3 a year, or am i just dreaming... i mean it does make sence, there is a 5 month difference between Oct 4 (Cinderella) and feb 28 (Lady and the Tramp). Mid June is right inbetween feb 28th (Lady and the Tramp) and oct 3 (The Little Mermaid) and that's 4 and a half months. Also knowing that disney is obviously rushing to release certain titles b4 the switch to Blue-ray or whatever's next, could this mean that we could get a June release of a platinum? i would find that awfully nice!

Does anybody think the platinum Peter Pan DVD will also include the Paramount silent film? The French 2 disc set has it.
