I'm curious, what sequel has been Disney's most popular and most successful. From what I know, all the Lion King ones are. But what other Disney sequels have done great?

I would say

Lion King 2
Toy Story 2
then
Herbie Rides Again
Herbie goes to Monte Carlo
and
Herbie Goes Bananas

The Lion King and Toy Story sequels

Sorry to burst your bubble with The Lion King, but as established in the review of The Return of Jafar. it sold around 10.5 million copies on VHS; so don't know about those thumbers till today.

And of course Toy Story 2.

Yeah, Aladdin 2 was the most successful sequel. That's probably because it was the first DTV and people didn't know what to expect. They do now, and that's why sales have gone down.

...And I'll be nitpicky and just remind everyone that Toy Story 2 was a PIXAR sequel.

Well, it's not like all of them were bad as everyone makes them out to be. If you've noticed any from the past couple of years (TLK 1 1/2, Mulan 2, Stitch has a Glitch, the upcoming Kronk's New Groove) DisneyToon Studios had really upped the bar on quality.

Yes, they're not as bad as everyone says they are. But the problem is that everyone says that they're bad. Back when DTVs were new, they had terrible animation and weren't nearly as good as the originals. That turned many people off to the idea of DTVs, and people still have that opinion of them even though they have gotten better. When DTVs were new, everyone bought them because they didn't know what to expect, but because of the bad reputation they've earned, it's only natural that sales would go down.

Well, a Disney/Pixar sequel, to be fair. Disney went in on half; I can't see denying them credit.

Anyway I'm pretty sure it's Lion King 2: Simba's Pride but I'm not 100% sure. I also think the Aladdin sequels and Lion King 1 1/2 did pretty well. The others I don't think did very well.

I heard somewhere that TLM2: Return to the Sea made more than the original did. But you can't take my word for that, 'cause I might be wrong (not sure). --;

The Rescure's Down Under is my favorite sequel so I would have to say it is the most successful. Well... that's only because it's the only Disney sequel I've ever watched.

The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride
Toy Story 2
The Rescuers Down Under
Tarzan 2

I dont concider the ones that went straight to video successful

Another good sequal was 102 Dalmations with Glen CLose

(I agree that) Return of Jafar was successful! I liked it a lot, but I didn't like KoT as much...

And I'm going to also say that the Disney/Pixar successful movie was Toy Story 2. Definitely.

There's probably more (you know if we were to include live action in this) but after reading those posts, I only thought "yea, I agree" and at the moment I'm only thinking animation.

And who knows. That GMD sequel might be a success!

That's not true, I can't see any evidence of sales going down - take a look at the last 2004 chart further down and compare Disney to other studios DTV releases! If sales have gone down, it mainly due to more competition rather than quality issues, as Disney's DTVs generally increase sales with each new release.

The Lion King 1/2 is the most successful sequel now I think if you just count the initial release, the Aladdin sequels and Lion King 2 have been released multiple times (The Lion King 2 has had 3 releases). It seems a bit unfair to allow re-releases to count.

One Disney Sequal that I am looking forward to is the next Pirates of the Carribian movie.

How did the Monkey's Uncle do? I seem to have known about that sequel longer than it's predecessor The Misadventures of Merlin Jones.

I think Return of Jafar and Lion King 2 and 1 1/2 were the most successful since

1) They're sequels to two of the most popular Disney Features
2) They sold a lot of copies

They're not my favorite though. I much prefer Return to Neverland to both. I saw part of Rescuers Down Under, but I never saw the whole thing of that and the Rescuers. I know the general ideas of the movies though.

I wouldnt be surprised if that were true. I may be the only girl out there who never got herself hooked on The Little Mermaid.
