........ripped off many kids (including me) with a whole 3 cartoons for a whopping £8.99 each! (or about $14)


They were the starring series........

like starring donald, or mickey, goofy etc.....




Anyone remember that series?

They even had their own montage before the cartoon started. And the montage had a catchy tune.

Me and my brother and sister would watch the montage and try and pick out the cartoons we had already seen...

OH I LOVED THOUSE! I rented them all the time. I never owned one thou.

yeah, my family did too. £8.99 was alot of money in the 80's , yet disney, would make a mint selling 3 cartoons at £8.99.

Particually as disney shorts were on tv (for me anyway) around that time.

And the unsinkable donald duck (which is 4 cartoons, as opposed to 3, with huey, dewey and louie shorts, a later addition to the series)

Infact, remember inbetween the cartoons themselves, they would overdub a random clip from another cartoon, with a voiceover of a newly recorded mickey mouse or donald duck etc...... to link the cartoons together?

Pointless, but me and my family would known the links off by heart diologue wise.

those are sooo cool! I loved those also! but 16$ is alot of money for 3 short cartoons

I never bought any of those. I would constantly see Disney shorts on TV or rent them so I was pretty much satisfied.

Sort of on topic/ off-topic... when I was in England I saw (and bought as a souvenir) a Simpsons DVD VHS compliation of 4 episodes for £14.99 ... I realized later that was pretty pricey since that would equal over $32 Canadian! (even more at that time since I believe the 1 £ = around $2.34 Canadian in 1997; now it's somewhere around 1 £ = around $2.14 Canadian

Yeah, iam sure UK gets ripped off on most media things in general (seriously).

In hindsight, disney were pretty stingy back then. Thanx god for dvd's as they are so much cheaper to make then VHS's.

I know it cost disney, back in the 80's, some money to do vhs's, but they knew what a ripoff it was too.

The cartoons seemed to be random too. LIke an employee just plucked them out at random.

I remember the silly symphony one (which we copied) and it didn't have "the 3 lilttle pigs"? It instead had "the 3 little wolves"? How "silly" is that?

The other 2 were te icky "water babies" (which we hated) and "toby tortoise returns", yet another sequel to a more famous cartoon. What were disney on? They even picked weak cartoons?

We had 5 or 6 of those videos

I used to love renting these. Interesting how similar the titles are to the first wave of Classic Cartoon Favorites. Proof that Disney hasn't forgotten their cards from the olden days!

I remember one VHS in particular that had Donald in a tuxedo on the front, in the spotlight. I believe it was a collection of cartoon shorts similar to these. I used to rent it often. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Yes that was a differing to these by the title and I like the one with him dressed like a bee not in a tux but thats just me.

I just sold one of these to a friend at a garage sale! So yes, I remember them.

A local video store near me has an entire Disney VHS section where you can rent ALL of these. They also have the old Silly Symphonies, etc that were released on VHS and they are all old and ratty and faded looking. I wonder how many people actually rent them and how much they are to rent!

I remember those. I think I had a halloween one where Huey, Dewey, and Louie dressed up as a gorilla to scare Donald. Also, I think there was a clip with Icabob Crane from Icabob and Mr. Toad.

Yeah, I loved them but I never knew my parents were being ripped off. Nor did I really care (Of course I care now. I'm talking about when I was a little kid.).

Somewhat embarrassingly, I must admit I purchased all of this series. There were 14 numbered titles and three unnumbered "Special Edition" titles. The unnumbered ones had a whopping four (instead of three) cartoons!

Even more embarrassing is that I still own them, except the ones in which all of the shorts have been released on DVD.

I remember thinking, "Wow, 14 titles in this series and Disney hasn't discontinued the line yet" shortly before Disney discontinued the line.

Dare I mention that with the last wave of Treasures, there was fourteen in that series, too? It appears that with the next wave on preorder, Disney will actually reach the "holy grail" number of 15 in a series.

I remember them, but mostly as rental - but they were still delightful, since at that time, this was the first time I'd seen much of what was on them.

I do own some of those volumes but I rent them usually.
