Check out davisdvd.com , the January Special Editions are now supposedly, under the title of "Masterpiece Edition"
Only "Alice in Wonderland" and "Pochohantas" are listed.
No sign of "Lilo & Stitch" or "Mary Poppins".
Hope they turn out good.
Best be 2-Disc

They'll definately be 2-Disc - that was confirmed by the add in the Sleeping Beauty DVD. Very interesting they are opting for a banner they onced used for some of their VHS titles.

Yeah my parents have a few tapes with the "Masterpiece" banner tacked on. Strange that they're bringing it back.

Masterpiece Collection?!! Very exciting... Does this means every movie released under this banner is going to be double-discer? Hurray!!
I just hope Disney doesn't drop it by the end of the year...

Hmmm...could very-well be that this is the start of a 2-Disc wave.
But if we've seen anything the last couple years it's been Disney's tendency to be extremely inconsistent in regards to the "family" banners.

Although Disney would abandon it after like 3 or 4 titles, I really like the idea of having the non-Platinum 2-discers having a series of their own besides the generic "special edition." Let's see if the Masterpiece listings are true and hold up till January.

maybe they'll get cute and call it the "masterpiece special edition" series to confuse us even more.

i think Disney's best collection was the Masterpiece Collection, cause with certain tittle they did the Special Limited Edition and it came with a booklet and extra footage!

or "Limited Materpiece Special Collectors' Platinum Gold Classic Edition Collection (with an all-new song)"
Looks like Lilo and Stitch and Mary Poppins will be coming out later now. Makes sense - Disney wouldn't want to release too many 2 disc sets onto the market at the same time.

Disney US really shoot themselves in the foot with all these name changes, because none of them ever last.

On the animation front, January 27th brings new Disney "Masterpiece Editions" of Alice in Wonderland and Pocahontas. And finally, look for the following "Disappearing Classics" to go into moratorium on December 30th: 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, The Jungle Book 2, Lady And The Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure, and the new Sleeping Beauty: SE. So get 'em while you can.
is not saying is labeled Masterpiece edition. Its just saying the version is masterpiece edition cause it's a 2 disc special edition. you're reading out of context.

That still doesn't convince me. It still looks to me like they're calling Alice and Poca Masterpiece Editions, hence the quotation marks. Notice how they also call the titles going OOP Disappearing Classics, which is what Disney themselves call them-even for sequels.

It would be cool If any Gold Collection Title would be rereleased as an 2 Disc Masterpiece Edition
I don't like those changes... Why don't they name the 2 Disc sets simply Collector's Edition like Tarzan, Atlantis, fantasia or Dinosaur?
Gold Platinum Collector Special and now massterpiece...
Greetings

Yeah, I know. I remember the early days when Gold Classic meant you got the movie on DVD with skimpy features, a Special Edition meant you got the movie on DVD with nice features, a Collector's Edition meant you got the movie on DVD with 2-discs and tons of features, and a Platinum Edition meant you got the movie on DVD with 2-discs, tons of features, and everything about the set was treated with reverence because it was considered 1 of 10 of Disney's greatest films. Now Special Edition can mean packed 1-disc, packed 2-disc, or movie with new scenes added, the Collector's Editions have now been reduced to Pixar films only, Gold Classics are dead, and the Platinums are slowly fading away. Sigh.
