Hey, I just hread on CNN that a computer company called HelioDisplay has developed a unit that makes it possible to watching television, use the computer, etc in 3D! HelioDisplay creates 3D displays in the air using lasers, drawing input from computers, TVs and DVDs. It also allows interactive applications to be controlled by a finger, instead of a mouse.
"Our first generation version, the Heliodisplay, projects TV, streaming video and computer images into free space, (mid-air)", the company's website claims. While it's early days for such technologies, the company has just completed its first production unit and claims it is ready to release a limited number of units for sale.

Wow! Imagine watching The Lion King in 3D! lol I wonder if they will come in different sizes? lol I would definately purchase this!

Just found out how much they are...$18,600!! I think I'll wait and see if these take off. lol

Yeah that would be neat! lol I have seen it and in order for it to really take off it needs strong lazers because the picture is very light.

As cool as this will be, I don't think it can make anything 3D unless it is programmed to be 3D. Otherwise the technology wouldn't know what should be where in the 3D world. And anything filmed in 2D would probably forever be in 2D (it would have to be completely remade).

Actually there's a relatively easy way to make every 2-D movie with moving scenes 3-D by playing with the brain. It's kind of the visual equivalent of the parlor trick that it is to make every stereo recording into "Dolby Surround". If the day came that workable 3-D TV hardware was common, I'm sure you'd see versions of 2-D movies coming out saying: "Now newly remastered beyond their original realism in Pulfrich 3-D!" :D

You know, the prequel trilogy would be a real treat. The CG backgrounds are just so deep and rich, it would be great to have it in 3D!
