"Mermaid" platinum release

Does anyone know why the LM platinum release was held off so long? It seems like that would be one of Disney's most in-demand movies, as bidding wars on eBay are not uncommon (I should know, I was in one!). Plus, the other "Katzenberg Stretch" films have already been released, so it seems to me like LM would have been released after Aladdin there.
I've included a poll here.

I think it's fine as is. Aladdin never saw a DVD release before. Mermaid on the other hand got a bare bones release, which is by far better than no release at all. Besides, I like the wait!

While I'd love to have The Little Mermaid right now too, I agree that it makes sense to first release all of the first-time-on-dvd Platinums. And Cinderella isn't such a bad consolation prize.

I couldn't think of what to vote. I mean on one hand I would've loved it if Little Mermaid was released right after Aladding but I don't know if it would've made sense.

Little Mermaid right after Aladdin?

I actually can't believe they released so many of the "Disney Renaissance" films one after the other! I understand that Disney was adding a new scene to Beauty and The Beast for so long, so it was okay for that one to come right after Snow White, but then it was The Lion King with a new scene and right after it, Aladdin! I think they should have done it in the pattern of Walt Era, Renaissance, Walt Era, Renaissance, etc. Actually now that I think about it, to make perfect sense wouldn't it be that the start of the Walt Era, Snow White was restored and released first (which it was), then the one after it would be the start of the Renaissance, which is The Little Mermaid, restored and released?
However, I'm perfect with Cinderella coming out this October! It's a sublime consolation prize! Actually, for me it is the prize!

While I think the pattern of old, new, old, new would make sense I really have no opinion on this just as long as The Little Mermaid is released on PE in the next two years!

Well that old pattern is not right because it would be like this:
Snow White 1937 - old
Beauty and the Beast 1991 -new
Lion King 1994 - old (New)

I really don't care that The Little Mermaid gets released in fall 2006 since Cinderella hasn't been on DVD yet. The Little Mermaid will sell better if it's release in October rather then March or Feburary. I already own The Little Mermaid: LI which I got from e-bay. I'm glad that Disney releases their better animated films on Platinum in October because it's worth the wait.

I have no problem with it comming on DVD. I think people who want it on DVD right away should lighten up. Hey, At least it's comming to DVD soon

I think it's more important to get Cinderella released now since it's never been on DVD. Though I also think that Lady and the Tramp could have waited a little longer, I wish Little Mermaid and Lady and the Tramp would switch places for next year. But I know they know Little Mermaid is more anticipated than Lady, so there you go. Plus, after The Little Mermaid, there are no more 'newer' Disney movies, so all the Platinum Editions are older releases that aren't exactly as seen by the kiddies of today as the 90s movies.

I think it's fine the way it is. All that matters is The Little Mermaid is coming to DVD.

I'm glad it wasn't The Little Mermaid instead of Snow White, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it because I didn't collect DVDs then.

It doesn't matter, because, if I had my way, I would've had it first.

But, if I were Disney, I probably would've kept it in the same order.

I answered, "I have no opinion" because I'm not in a rush to get it on DVD.

I know, that must sound absurd, but I was really, really excited when I heard Aladdin was on DVD. I mean, even up to now, I'm still WOWed over Aladdin being released on DVD.
So, in some way, I'm *kinda* glad that TLM isn't released until '06.

I would of loved "The Litlle Mermaid" to have been released this year, as suppose to Cinderella. The reason for this being, is due to the fact that The Little Mermaid is my all time favourite Disney Classic and I'd really like to have it featured in my collection. As for Cinderella, I could have easily awaited for another year.

It would have made more sense to do a release of it back then before the direct to video sequel.
Either way I don't have much of an opinion on this one as it's not one of my favorites, I'll purchase it as part of my collection whenever it comes out.

but it's a little weird, because Cinderella is the only Classic that hasn't been on DVD
but I would really love it in Marhc 2006 instead of Lady and The tramp

I think we all have personal orders in which we'd prefer the Platinums to come, but they are all coming before 2008, so why bother complaining abotu it too loudly? Especially with Mermaid -- "would it have been nice to have it now?" Sure, I suppose, but Bambi and Cinderella are equeally great films, so I'm very happy to have them, too -- and since the release schedule is now set in stone, what good would it do to complain anyway?
All of the Platinum Edition titles are among Disney's best movies. We're going to get a great DVD for all of them no matter what order they come in. Let's leave it at that, shall we?

I wasn't complaining as such, the topic asks whether you would like The Little Mermaid as the next platinum release, so I said yes, that's all.

I was going to vote saying I had no opinion. But if the Little Mermaid came right after Aladdin then I would have had to wait longer for Bambi. I was ready for Bambi to make it on Dvd and at last I got my wish. Bambi is just such a classic movie that I love and not just because of Flower the Skunk. Flower is my favorite character of all times and even if he had not been in the movie that movie would still be a grand film that I love. Anyways Bambi was what caused me to vote the way I did he he
