I just don't know how.

My Disney DVDS are placed on special Disney DVD shelves so those doesn't bother me.

The rest are:

My TV series: Simpsons, TMNT, Thundercats, Spawn, Kingdom Hospital and Xena (until Season 4); Xena does bother me. I have them all on a card board that fits them all, but I don't know where to place them since my DVD racks ARE FULL.


Then I have several box sets:

3 for some anime series, Nightmare on Elm St. Collection, Star Wars Trilogy, The Omen, X-men, TLOTR.

How do you arrange your collection when you don't know how to do it? And when you have no more place to put them?

I just put my whole collection in alphabetical order, then my Pixar & Harry Potter DVDs go on the shelf of my desk. I would put TV Shows on a different shelf too, but then I don't collect enough to give them their own shelf.

I kind of have these problems sometimes..

I put large box sets and tv dvds on this shelf next to my dvd tower. In my dvd tower, I arrange the dvds like this:

2D Disney Feature
Pixar
Non-Feature Disney (Brave Little Toaster..Nightmare Before Christmas)
Studio Ghibli
Non-Disney Animated
Live-action

I alphabetize mine, too, from top to bottom.

For you, I would just recommend buying a shelf and nailing it to your wall. My tv dvds aren't even on a shelf right now. They're on this footstool placed against the wall.

I usually put them in alphabetical order but then some sets are so large that they don't let me keep them organized.

And I can't buy any more shelves because my room is already full, and I'm expecting to hopefully move to my own house in a couple of years so it would be a waste (and I won't be able to take the shelves with me because I'll be moving out of the country).

I too really need more shelves. I'm running out. Desperately.

Are shelves better to keep your DVDs organized or a tower?

I think dvd sets that are 3-discs or bigger look nicer on a shelf.. With shelves, you kind of have more freedom and you can squeeze more dvds onto one.

Oh yeah, I forgot about how the towers only fit a single DVD case at a time.

My organization of DVDs is rather complicated for some people. I was actually talking about it with a friend of mine last night.

Anyways, I organize my DVDs accordingly:

Disney has a shelf of its own, separated into Treasures, Animated, and Live-Action. The Treasures are sorted by release date, and the Animated and Live-Action are sorted by theatrical release date. Also, the two-discs are sorted together, and the single-discs are sorted together. So essential, the order is: Treasures, Two-Disc Animated, Two-Disc Live-Action, Single-Disc Animated, Single-Disc Live-Action. All Chronological.

For the movie studios (20th Century Fox, Artisan, Dreamworks, MGM, New Line Cinema, Paramount, Universal, Warner Brothers), they are separated by the studio, then chronologically by theatrical release date.

TV DVDs I organize in this order:
The Golden Girls, Home Improvement, Coupling, Friends, Mary Tyler Moore, Three's Company, Family Guy. My other TV DVDs are arranged strangely, well, actually they have no arrangement, since they're mostly public domain shows by minor companies (Madacy, Platinum, GoodTimes Video, etc)

And of course, there are the special DVDs that get their own shelfspace together. Star Trek and Star Wars are grouped together, along with The Ten Commandments, The Audrey Hepburn Collection, Back to the Future Trilogy, E.T. , and the X-Men Collection.

For 20th Century Fox, it's organized by Studio Classics, Fox Film Noir, Marilyn Monroe Diamond Collection (though I only have two DVDs), Elvis, R&H Musicals, then chronologically. Confusing, huh? But I feel comforted having the labeled series' arranged together. So it's nice to see Studio Classics first, followed by everything else.

My Touchstone/Hollywood/Miramax DVDs are arranged after the Disney DVDs, in chrono order as well, but for Miramax, I put the Three Colors Trilogy (Blue, White, Red) at the end, even though the movies were made in the early 90s.

My two foreign films, Brief Crossing and Entrusted, are tacked on at the end of my TV DVDs.

Most of my TV miniseries were released by Artisan, so I keep that together with the Artisan movies, but the ones that aren't (The Thorn Birds, Oldest Living Confederate Widow), I group with TV Movies.

If/when I ever get Criterion DVDs, they of course will have their own shelf space.

If I had more shelf space, all my DVDs would be stored together. As they are now, they are on 2 whole shelves, and 2 halfs. And they are spread out in two different rooms. Not that I have that many, it's actually just that there is no more shelf room anywhere in the main storage room.

The way I arrange most of my DVDs is by studios, alphabetically. The TV shows and music video compilation DVDs go in my bedroom. The others are here in my computer room.

I alphabetize mine, but when we do an addition to my house I will have a seperate room to store my DVDs and I will put them together by studio and then the alphetibeltical order.

All 70 of my DVDs are on a shelf part of my computer desk... I really need some DVD shelves.

I arrange them all alphabetical... Maybe when my collection gets bigger I'll seperate the TV sets.

I categorize about half of them, and the rest are alphabetized. All of my categorized things are in release date order. It goes something like this:

Disney Feature Animation (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - The Fantasia Anthology)
Pixar (The Ultimate Toy Box - The Incredibles)
Disney Live-Action (Pollyanna - Pirates of the Caribbean)
Other Films Distributed by Disney (James and the Giant Peach - Spirited Away)
Jesus (The King of Kings - The Passion of the Christ)
Harry Potter
The Lord of the Rings: Extended Editions
Superheroes (X-Men - Hellboy)
Star Wars
Indiana Jones
Alphabetized DVD's that I didn't put into groups (A.I.: Artificial Intelligence - The Wizard of Oz)
TV Shows (The Golden Girls, Friends, and Gilmore Girls)

The Fantasia Anthology is at the end of my animated classics despite the rest of the collection being in order because I decided that a) it's too hard deciding where to put it when you've got two different movies from two different eras in it, and b) it simply looked nicer at the end than in the midst. It worked to my advantage because it and The Ultimate Toy Box (which starts off my Pixar collection) are back to back, which looks really good on the shelf.

I do it alphabetically...sorta.

Audrey Hepburn has her own place or shelf, even though it's only like 18 DVDs.. (but 2 more are being released November! )

Disney has its very own section all arranged alphabetically; boxsets, OOP, sequels all put together!

and whatever else. I really should separate by horror/thriller, comedy, romance, etc.. because I when I wanted to watch GUESS WHO, I ended up seeing that scary eye of THE GRUDGE.

My method:

I put the good looking cases together at one end, the ugly looking ones at the other end. Not really a method but it works for me!

^^ lol that what I do to kind of. Like the early DVD that came it tjhe snap box are all together. I have Disney Animi/Pixar on one shelf. TV show on one, and the rest are combinded.

All my dvds are in genre, but my animated disney dvds are in chronological order.

slightly off topic but

evil genie jafar what kind of tmnt set is it that you have is it a season set or just the random episodes

i have a vhs copy of the first five episodes but i wanna buy it on dvd of corse

i put my non disney dvds on one shelf next to my vhs movies and of corse my disney dvds and vhs movies have thier own shelf

Man! All of you are orginization freaks. I just keep my DVD's on a shelf and a rack near my TV. Of corse I have my 2 Disney DVD's and my TV series DVD's separate but I don't do any alphabetizing or anything like that. I just put them there.
