Maybe CGI won't be that bad

I like the idea that disney is doing traditional looking CGI films, I think they may evetually come to their their senses and start doing 2d again but for the mean time, I'm starting to open up to the idea of Disney's convertion and will be happy as long as it is done in a tradition style.... an example of this is B.E.N. from treaure planet... This may cut down costs significantly and may result in better stroy telling perhaps... I don't know but I'm trying to be enthusiastic...

Oh and sorry about sticking this in the international forum, but I was here when I got the idea for it. Luke if you want you can move it, but I don't care...

Oh and if all those new CGI films are going to be labeled as classics, which I don't know, I guess they could be but they could also be labeled as Disney CGI or something new, but if theu are then Dinosaur should too...

I decided to turn this into a poll. :)

I went from I hate it I hate it!!! to I guess I'll have to get used to it to I'll give it a chance But I don't go beyond that!!!

I figure when this CGI craze wears off, disney will go back to it's origins. :)

I voted for "I'll give it a chance". If this were 2-D CGI then I'd be all for it and wouldn't care a bit. Unfortunately it's probably going to be mostly 3-D and I don't really like 3-D animation. But like I said, I'll give it a chance.

I voted for "Its something I'll have to get used to." I'm against the idea, and I'd wish they'd stick with 2D.

I said I'd give it a chance, because it's obviously happening, and we'll have to see whether it works or not.

My beef with the CG thing though, is these films have been ordered to be made in CG by the suits just to be made in CG. Those monkeys have this frustratingly turned-around view that Pixar films must have been successful because they're in CG - 'cause you know, story had nothing to do with it.
So these damn suits want the movies in 3D CG because I guess that'll make a film a guaranteed success. According to them, folks of today are always wowed by CG, and dismiss cel animation as "old-fashioned". Oy... I guess some execs didn't learn anything from Final Fantasy or DINOSAUR. Yeesh...

I honestly don't prefer one format over another. I wish Disney could make the formats co-exist. That they would pick the most suitable format for the film. Of course, as some of their CG work so far has shown - I think they'd do better to stick to cel animation, at least for now. ;) Ideally, it'd be cool if they trained CG artists via the old method - having them practice on short subjects to get the methods and styles down, then work on features.

Of course, in any case, what the suits really need to do is let the artists have free rein - then you're guaranteed to have a good film, cel or CG. I'm just gonna sit back and watch the CG films come, because if they're just as micro-managed as Atlantis or Treasure Planet were, then they'll be just as mediocre, story-wise, as the "old-fashioned", obsolete cel animated features. I will laugh when these CG films flounder at the box office - and show those damn suits that format is not the problem - it's story. Concurrently, it' you.

What is CGI? :?

It stands for Computer-Generated Imagery, Matt. It could also be Computer Graphics Imagery, but computer-generated is the most accepted definition. :)

It's basically any moving images that are created by a computer. The dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, the wildebeest stampede in The Lion King, and Woody from Toy Story are all examples of CGI. On animation forums, though, "CG" usually refers to the completely computer-animated films like Ice Age or Finding Nemo.

Ahhhh! Got ya! So how are they going to make Disney Classics with this? :)
