someone on another message board said that the R1 dvd of That Darn Cat is actually presented in non-anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen. Can anyone confirm this? The list here still gives it a "thumbs down".

I haven't heard that. And if it is, I'll gladly change it.

Though letterboxed widescreen transfers today are really lame, they're better than chopping up the films.

I have the movie and it's widescreen....i told Luke I would double check and I will get back with you tonight...i'm going to check several chapters out....

It's definately widescreen, even though the back side of the case says fullscreen 1:33. It's worth the 15.00 to buy it since it's widescreen!!!!

anyone know if any of the other ones that came out (operation dumbo drop, etc.) last week are mislabled?

Please define in layperson's terms....how do I tell if it is anamorphic?

Anamorphic means that there is a special signal encoded on the disc that, IF you have one of those new style widescreen televisions, will make the widescreen picture on you DVD fit the shape of your tv's picure. Without this anamorphic signal, a widescreen DVD will still have the black bars when you view it on a widescreen tv.

Somewhere on the package it may say things like:

Anamorphic
16x9
Enhanced for 16x9

Something like that.

Well it wouldn't in this case, because it's labeled as "1.33:1 Fullscreen."

But if you change your player's settings from 4x3 Letterbox to 16x9, it will think you have a 16x9 television. If the DVD is anamorphic, it will squeeze to fill your screen. If not, it will look just the same as it did before, with black bars above and below.

Just remember to change the settings back to 4x3 Letterbox when you're done. I imagine it's just a non-anamorphic laserdisc port, but then Disney is the only studio still doing those.

I wouldn't know how to change my settings on my player so I can't check if it is anamorphic or not. Sorry...

Another way to check is if you have a DVD-ROM drive. If you the black bars are part of the picture when watching in a small window, or if they only appear when you view full-sized (i.e. they're generated by the computer, and not part of the film).

If you don't have the DVD of the 1996 That Darn Cat. Then buy the $9.99 VHS. The video is a lot nbetter transfer. I have the VHS, and I rented the DVD and the VHS is a lot better than the DVD. Because it is a better quality transfer.

This never made onto DVD like the original Hayley Mills movie did it?

I just actually discovered this today while crusing around on IMDB. The one with the talented Christina Ricci (yay, didn't know she did a Disney movie, this makes me even happier).

If this hasn't already, will it see the light of day possibly? If anyone's seen it, what's your opinion?

This has got to be in my top 10 worst movies list and if it doesn't it's definatly one of Disney's worst movies ever! First off, the story was so bad! They should actually read the scripts before they make them into movies! The cast was surprisingly good, but yet all the performances were lame and the dialogue was mediocre. I even met Thomas F. Wilson who is in the movie so it was quite a shock to find out he was in this! He's a really nice guy and it's a shame these types of movies are the best he's getting recently now that the Back To The Future days are over.

Anyway the reason it isn't on DVD yet is most likly because it was so bad!

i remember watching this movie, i didnt think it was soo bad but i dont really like doug E. Doug very much, and the only thing i can remember is doug e. doug walking around like a car and then the meat lady dancing to "im too sexy for my shirt"...ok so maybe it was that bad hahaha

You guys should look onto Amazon.com more often, the That Darn Cat remake was on dvd long before the origional came out on dvd.

When I saw they didn't use a siamese I was instantly turned off by it, LOL

I loved the original as a kid, but watch it now and it's a crazy story, but still enjoyable. all the cat prints everwhere, lol
