I was listening to clips on Amazon of the 2 versions of Annie and wondered what one do you like better the 1982 film or the 1999 TV film overall?

Not only that but do you like Carol Burnett or Kathy Bates as Miss Hannigan (I whould say Carol Burnett)

Tim Curry or Alan Cumming as Rooster Hannigan (that’s the hardest one IMO but I would go with Mr. Curry)

Victor Garber or Albert Finney as Oliver Warbucks


Aileen Quinn or Alicia Morton as Annie


Kristin Chenoweth or Bernadette Peters as Lily St. Regis

What your favorite song?


And really everything.

As is usually the case, I prefer the original to the remake...

Of course, there are some classic films that were remakes themselves: Brewster's Millions, for example.

I prefer the origional, better casting.

I mean it had Carol Burnett what more could you want.

I prefer the 1982 Columbia Pictures version, though to be honest, I've never seen the Disney version (1999).

I much prefer the Disney version-I'd always hated ANNIE before I saw the new version.

It just had the "feel" of being a musical-the original one just seemed (for lack of a better word) dumb.

I prefer the original version. I have seen both but the original is my favourite of the two.... well... it's better. I never liked the original very much growing up.

I prefer the remake, simply because I can't show my 5-year-old the original because of the language.

I have the original on dvd though I've also seen the Disney remake. And I like them both.

It's been a while since I've watched my copy, but there is enough language in the original to warrant not wanting to show it to a 5 year old? I honestly don't remember there being really any in there. I may have to watch it again soon and pay close attention to any in there.

they put in a "damn" or 2 to get a PG because they were thinking that only YOUNG kids would go to G rated films and that adults hated the fact they whould be in a G rated film.

I prefer the original. I started watching the remake one day and I thought it was horrible.

I like the original better.

I prefer the 1982 original as well. It's a shame that Columbia screwed up[ the current DVD release by offering it ONLY in fullscreen and put the old widescreen DVD out of print. I've always wanted to see Annie in its glorious original widescreen. I have the 1997 VHS released in celebration of the Broadway show's 20th Anniversary, and while they did a terrific job remastering the movie and even included the trailer, the pan and scan job was a horrible one, as were many of Columbia's P&S jobs from the 90's (and for all I know, they may still do it like that). At least the other studios tried to make it look like the P&S was natural camera movement. Columbia's P&S treatments LOOK like they're pan and scanning.

I only saw the 1999 version, mostly because Lalaine was in it - although she's very hard to recognize in there, it's a good movie. Of course for a DCOM

IMO one can't say that no child should watch it because of that little bit of language. It's gotta be up to the parents. If it had a lot more language, then I could make a general blanket statement about who should watch it. Meh.

Let me explain for those of you are familiar with this movie. I saw the 1999 remake of "Annie" when it was shown on ABC as part of the "Wonderful World of Disney". That movie was overrated than the original version from 1982. The original "Annie" was the best. It featured Aileen Quinn, Albert Finney and Carol Burnett. The 1999 remake was with Alicia Morton, Kathy Bates and Matthew Garber. Can you tell the difference? Same songs, different tunes that it was left from the 1977 musical in the 1999 version. The 1982 original had different songs like "We Got Annie", "Let's Go to the Movies", "Dumb Dog" and "Sandy". As I would say, the original 1982 "Annie" is a much better movie than the 1999 remake.

Totally agreed. I still love the 1982 version of the movie. It's just classic. All of the actors/actresses were well-cast and the songs were great.

1982, if for nothing else by Carol Burnette as Ms. Hanigan.....We love you Ms. Hanigan!
