When I upgrade to a new DVD I feel sad because my old DVD wont be used anymore but i cnt let it go and giv it away or sell it because i become attatched... same with anybody else?

well, it depends totally of you, I give away all my old DVDs when I buy the new edition of it

Are we talking discs or players? Because If discs I must say the one disc foolscreen dvd of Space Jam at frist I was going to but after a bit I just coulden't.

Good topic. I usually never buy two versions of a movie on DVD. And I've been lucky because I've only bought one DVD so far that has been upgraded, which is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but the new DVD is exactly the same package as the first so I'm not buying another one.

Anyway, I am willing to buy 2 DVDs of for instance Candyman just because Columbia-TriStar didn't put the trailer on the Special Edition. So, I don't plan on chucking any old DVDs unless the movie sucks. And you can learn from bad movies so even then I still keep 'em.

I know how you feel, I find it so hard getting rid of a dvd when a new edition comes out. That might be why I didn't sell my Anchor Bay dvd of Happiest Millionaire yet, even though Disney released it last year.

I dunno; it depends on the DVD or movie. For example, I've been attached to Notting Hill for a long time (don't ask...) until I saw the 2-disc version. I sold the 1-disc Notting Hill.

We usually upgrade our DVDs to the unrated version because I think it's better. Now, one DVD I won't ever sell is the DVD that's part of the Ultimate Toy Box. I don't care about double dippin on this one; UTB is a pretty rare set out there.

For me, if I get a new edition of a movie, I usually give away my old version to someone else in the family.

I could get rid of most my DVD:s if I'd buy new editions of them, but NEVER my Disney DVD:s. That's simply because I collect them and I don't mind have different editions of them. It's just fun and nice to compare them. Right now I have 3 DVD-versions of Alice in Wonderland, double different copies of Hercules, Bambi, Atlantis, Pinocchio, Fantasia + 2000, Tarzan, TENG and many more! (And nearly all of them I have VHS copies, too!)
But yes, I am attached to them.

Nope. I never bought any of the Batman movies because I was holding out for the eventual Special Editions to come out, and they finally are. (The 1997 releases were practically bare-bones, not even a trailer.) The same reason for The Little Mermaid as well - it's bound to be a big seller on the market once Disney releases the Platinum Edition specs and has it for pre-order.

I still hold on to my single-discers for Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Moulin Rouge, simply because I always forget to bring them with me to the mall to sell. Also, I've got a used copy of Legend that I doubledipped simply to get a better-condition digipak, and even though the new single-disc has less than the UE, I wanna buy it just to have. Weird, huh?

I think though, that we hold on to our old editions because they're a comfort. Like how some of us still have VHS's. We can't bear to sell them because they've been with us for years.

I have three movies I have upgraded and I still have them and I guess I am sort of attached to the old editions.

The first is The Pincess Bride. It was the first DVD I ever bought and when the special edition came out I wanted to get it. It wasn't a major improvement but I wanted it for the special features. Someone asked me if they could buy the old edition from me but I refused since it does have some sort of historical purpose for me. I said they should just go out and buy the special edition since it's inder $9 everywhere you go.
I've also got the original and director's cut of versions of Donnie Darko. I won't get rid of the first one since it is different from the director's cut.

Lastly I have both versions of Clerks. Since I am a Kevin Smith fan (although not quite a rabid one yet) I want to keep them both.

Now for other movies I would say I would get rid of the first version but most movies I have I wouldn't feel like buying another version in the first place.

I don't get attached to them, but I do get upset knowing how much I paid for those DVDS and now I have to give them away because no one will want them anyways.

I've upgraded:

1.Pocahontas: It was one of the free titles in the DMC. I didn't remember that much the movie but thought that no matter if they'd released a better version I wouldn't have bought it becaue I didn't love the movie.... then I started to like it more. But basically I upgraded it because it looked HORRIBLE!

2. A Bug's Life: Had the Gold Collection. Since Pixar's movies became a standard in 2 disc sets, I decided to upgrade. Besides, it was at a nice price and I like the movie enough.



Will upgrade:

All my Batman movies. He's my favorite super hero. I already have all the animated movies (except Subzero; on its way) and just miss the series. I bought them because they had them all at Walmart for $8 each. So it was a nice deal back then.

I will upgrade my batman films too!
And Also I just buyed on pre-sale Batman Begins!

Batman is the greatest hero because he is the only superhero that doesn´t have special powers or something

It depends on the movie, and what additional stuff is added to the new DVD. If its just bonus material then probably not. If something has changed with the movie, or a new better transfer is on that DVD then yeah I would probably upgrade.

So far I haven't upgraded any of my DVDs for new versions.

I'm kind of glad I didn't buy the Batman films earlier this year with the new Special Editions coming out. I really want to get the first three on DVD.

I mean, is kind of weird the case,but sometimes you can find a new edition cheaper than the first one

I give away my old editions. I donate all my old DVDs and VHS to the local woman's shelter. Those poor mothers and kids leave bad situations with the clothes off their backs. Kids have to leave behind toys, books, and movies. So ever 4-6 months, I do a cleaning of the house and gather 1-6 trashbags of stuff I don't need anymore but they could use. They got much of my VHS collection as I got the DVDs of the movies.

I gave away many of my VHS's to my nieces when I upgraded to DVD, and I also donated some to the YMCA for their various day care programs. However, there were a handful I *had* to hold on to, like my original VHS of Lady and the Tramp. It was my first Disney pre-record ever and it reminds me so much of good times with my dad.

As for the times I have double-dipped on a DVD, it depends on what materical is on the old disc. For example. I could not not give up my first edition of Iron Giant since the music video is not on the special edition.

I have a hard time getting rid of the old disc after I upgrade. I take my time and make there is nothing on there that is not on the new release. Then I sell it. But I still have a few that I haven't got rid of.

But one I will not do is going to be Toy Story Ultimate Box. I am buying the new releases but I am keeping this set.
