Oliver and co is still awesome

One of my all time fav movies is oliver and co. I even did an essay on "how to build a good climax in a film" and used the film as an example of this.

I love anything 80's, and I feel disney at the time wanted to get "hip" or "streetwise". Of course, this being disney, they got the vocal talents of billy joel and a song by huey lewis, 2 cats who were no offence, pretty MOR for kids or teens.

But infact I love Billy Joels voice in this, its underated and should be up their with robin williams, tim allen etc... as great voices for an animated cartoon.

Anyway, the atmosphere, the score, the characters (I love tito), the pacing.

"whoa". All these years I had no idea Joey Lawrence (from tv show "blossem" and had a few hit songs like that aweseomely catchy "Nothin' my love cant fix") was the voice of lil' ole oliver :)

I love the songs too. I got the CD. "streets of gold" "why should I worry" "Once upon a time in new york city" brings tears to my eyes it really does!

Anyway, it may be part of the "dark years", but I love it, and personally rate it as proberly my fav disney movie. No joke.

What u all make of it? Just too cliche, formulaic, too 80's (cat and dog movies were popular back then), or the fact that u find it boring or lakcing in charm?

Ur thoughts please.

We can't delete it but most likely this will be joined with the other or become a locked thread but that is up to the moderators or the site admin (Luke).

I didn't realize until recently that Oliver and Co. was based on Oliver Twist. It was probably because I watched it when I was 8 and haven't heard of the book yet.

Disney studios used a better word on the credits "inspired by oliver twist". Which is more approriate. :)

Yeah I waited 10 years or so as a kid to get this movie on VHS. That was annoying.

Yeah, Disney didn't base it on, but actually was "loosely inspired" on Oliver Twist, since Disney's movie is way different from the Charles Dickens story.

Does anyone know the exact reason why this never came to video after it's theatrical debut? Since it was unavailable for so long, it was the last Disney film (excluding package features and films that hadn't even been released when I viewed Oliver and Company) that I ever saw. Heck, I even saw The Black Cauldron before this movie!
