Today I remembered something from the time Nightmare was in production, and I was interested to see if anyone else here had a similar experience.

I remember that my first glimpse of Nightmare was a VERY short teaser trailer that appeared on some Disney Video release, I can't remember which one. But it was different from anything I'd ever seen, and it looked really cool. Fast forward a few months..... I was strolling through the mall of Memphis, when I started approaching a cart in the mall with a small TV on it. As I approached, the man at the cart stopped me and my mother, and asked us if we'd like to watch part of a new movie in production, and fill out a survey afterwards with any comments/suggestions. So as he started the tape, to my surprise it was the same film I had seen the trailer for months beforehand, and even thought about since then! I was SO excited. He proceeded to show us approx 15 minutes of footage from the Nightmare Before Christmas, along with a longer trailer. My mother and I both told the man that it was wonderful, and that we would both be looking forward to seeing it. Then we each filled out a survey answering questions such as, "Do you think the concept of the film is too scary for children" and "Is the movie title OK" and "does the story present any moral conflicts for you" etc, etc. I, of course, thought everything about it was great, and after some other questions and discovering that my family pastored a small country church, he said our opinion was a very high priority, as we were just the sort of folks they were seeking opinions from.

It was a very odd experience to top off a very odd film, and led to Nightmare being one of my favorite films from childhood. I just thought you guys would like and appreciate my memory of this.

That's really cool Soulbrotha432, I really like TNBC and I await the release of The Corpse Bride made by the same people. Thanks for sharing! It was fun to read.

I'm looking forward to Corpse Bride as well! It's looks promising... It's funny to me that they were so worried about TNBC though, enough to do something as strange as short screenings in the mall. It may not be as uncommon as I am thinking, but it is definitely uncommon for something like that to happen in Tennessee. It's also strange to me how they distributed this under the Touchstone label just to be safe, and now they seem to consider it a full-blown Disney film. Weird.

Tim Burton is great. He's my favorite director. I love TNBC. I was afraid of the opening scene when I was a kid though. I love the stop motion animation and the songs! Jack Skellington is a dorky skeleton.

I also love TNBC too.

I remember that I was scared of TNBC when I was younger...but as I 'matured', I actually grew very fond of it! I realized how good the animation and story is! So good, that I insisted on buying the loverly GIFT SET (with Jack's coffin and his head as a nightlight) rather than buying the single disc DVD.

I think that if a kid watches it again and again and realizes there are no such things as those monsters (or that you'll never get that for Christmas...ever ), then they'll like it as well!

I like TNBC too.
When I first watch it I didn´t get scared and I spend singning on my free time singing the "this is haloween" song

I loved the Nightmare Before Christmas ever since I was a kid, and it didn't scare me. But I always loathed the Boogey Man..lame.

I watched the movie about 3 days ago.

I haven't seen it...but I DO own the poster! It's in my room, i love the art! I really like Disney's halloween movies and such, especially HOCUS POCUS! Maybe I'll rent TNBC...
Anyway, that's a really cool experience you described. You must be in a big city?

SAME here I was really scared of it but know It is one of Burton's best films in my opinion but I don’t know why that shrunken head still sends shivers down my spine. I should remember to pick it up.

I could totally relate to the first part, as I clearly remember the how that teaser trailer grabbed my attention at the beginning of one of the Disney VHS's. I never got to do a survey like that, but it would have been so cool!

I sorta wish it came out when I was a kid (well, I was in high school at the time, so I guess I was still kind of a kid) cuz I wonder what my take on it would have been back then. Eh, it's just as well. I carried a lot of appreciation for it, and it's still one of my favorite films of all time.

when i was a little kid i thought that nightmare before christmas was scary.

I was scared of the opening sequence when I was younger as well, but now I really appreciate how much work must have been put into it.

I loved the beggining sequel,but mostly when Jack appear and he fires up himself(flames to me! ) and dance

they should of never made nightmare before christmas for disney. its to scary for children. they also should of never made roger rabbit for disney. that movie is not for kids.

And even stranger, although I do love WFRR, they show it on the Disney Channell! There are definatley things in that movie not for kids (cursing is one of them). But TNBF is not that bad.

But they are not Diseny they are under the Touchstone label which was for more adult films.

Besides, is not Disney´s or neither touchston responsability to make or don´t scary movies, but parent´s to watch over their kids and what they watch

I remember for some reason the Odeon in Liverpool (here in the UK) had a free one-off screening of Nightmare Before Christmas a month or so before the filmed was actually released over here. It was around Halloween (I'd like to say it was actually on Halloween but I can't remember 100%) - which made it even cooler because I hate it when people class it as a Christmas movie... it's a Halloween movie!

Anyway the tickets were given away free by my local comic shop so basically I attended a free advanced screening that was a packed audience of people from the comic shop - who all pretty much loved the film... it was a cool experience!
