Do you guys really believe that Home On The Range was the last 2-D animation, I know it was stated by Disney themselves but I really don't want to believe it... I don't think they can just cut off 2-D and go to 3-D... 3-D doesn't really have the same effect on me... I hope there's more 2D

No, I don't think so.

It'll revive, but not in the near future... I've come to live with it (though not accept it). As long as someone out there appreciates 2D (Ghibli for example) I'm not worried about its future.

yeah, ghibli's the same but also different, i dont think the ongoing production of ghibli films will make me feel any better about losing disney 2d

I'll always be a fan of Disney's 2-D movies. If Disney decides to not go wtih the "trend" and go back to the old format, then we can truly rejoice.

I think 2D will return, but not soon really. Disney hasn´t equipment to work with traditional animation anymore; and they still have to learn a lesson, when some of their GC movies flop and the public will be tired of the cool-shrek-burp-fun succesful formula; then perhaps they´ll consider to look back to their better times.

Anyway, even if the traditional animation gets back for a movie or two, 3D movies won´t disappear...

Sometime in the future 2D films will return. But I think in the meantime you'll just see a bunch of CG movies!

Well, one of the rumors I heard was if Madagascar was not a blockbuster, people at Disney would see that the CGI boom was a bust and might be scrambling to hire back 2-D artists. I haven't heard any word yet, but I think it'll eventually happen. We need to be patient, that's all.

Well one thing is for sure, we can always count on some DTV 2d releases.

My heart sank when I read that Disney was ditching the 2D animated movies.

..But sometimes I tell myself that it's just another dark age. I'm hoping that they'll make a comeback someday..

Maybe, if they look back at their sales history...all the multi-million dollar and i'm talkin 9 figure sales $$$ $$$ $$$ were for 2d movies. if they're in financial need, they should see that 2d is their best bet. Personally, i loved shrek, madagascar, nemo, shark tale and the rest of the 3d flicks but i'd choose 2d anyday! 3d hardly even seems like animation, they should reclassify movies as animated (2d), CGI (3d) or live action.

Well, I've always felt that CGI had more roots in stop-motion animation than 2-D anyway. It's all animation, but I wouldn't mind seeing them split up in different categories.

If 2-D wasn't invented then CGI wouldn't be invented either.

I'm not sure if 3D movies can stand the test of time. I mean...the movies don't seem to have any sentimental value.

Only in the US! Universal's new 2D Curious George movie looks nice though.

I think a lot of people would disagree with you, at least with certain films.

I could say a lot about Pixar's films. I know there's some poeple that don't care for them, but to me, they have a lot more heart than a lot of films, period.

I agree that 2D movies tend to have a more sentimental feeling than CGI movies. I say sentimental as not in a term of morality, but respect for the laborious work animators put into it, rather than having a computer do the majority of the work.

That said, I think Pixar's animation is gorgeous.
