While I like Harry Potter, I'm not a Potter head or anything like that so I haven't looked into this myself. I know that there are many fans here and a lot of people went to the 20th Anniversary screenings.

In regards to Lord of the Rings, I have heard that the Dwarves are based on Jewish people, their language is inspired by Hebrew and their main motivation in the Hobbit is to reclaim their home.

Michael Eisner is definitely Jewish, you can read about it in his Wikipedia page, but also there are quotes from him mentioning his Judaism, and I agree that the reason why they turned down Prince of Egypt was probably because they didn't want to do a biblical story (people tend to be more sensitive when it comes to religion and they probably didn't want to offend anyone).
It is one of those things where you have to educate yourself but before doing that you have to carve out the time and space to properly do that and we all do not have that time. I would be willing to believe it is just a coincidence but Ms. TERF has way too many blindspots for it to just be a harmless mistake each time.

The dwarves are treated respectfully in LOTR so I guess that's not a terrible comparison. At least they are not the Orcs who have no redeeming factors. I never thought about that before cuz dwarfs are mythological German creatures (like everyone's favorite Seven Dwarfs) so I just assumed Tolkien's main emphasis came from that.

Oooh okay maybe I got him and Katzenberg mixed up and Katzenberg is not the Jewish one then. Or maybe they are both Jewish which makes it weird that I remember hearing Eisner say something rude about Katzenberg's Jewishness. But I guess if he is Jewish too, he can say it.

Both of them are Jewish. I don't know what was Eisner remarks but their relationship was strained before Katzenberg was fired/quit.

I didn't know Flynn Rider was supposed to be British initially. It's interesting that both Naveen (then named Henry) and Flynn started off as English characters.

Did we ever find out where Naveen's fictional Maldonia is supposedly located on the world map, and if it's inspired by real countries?

According to Tumblr, some new Tangled concept art appears in Disney Sketchbook episode 4 (Peter Pan | Captain Hook by Jin Kim). Rapunzel holding the mirror is new to me -- maybe someone can verify if it's new or old.

I think there was something the other day about Moana going 3X platinum finally, too. I wonder if Encanto, Frozen, TP&TF, and Frozen II have any new stats?

Is that how the film was supposed to look or is this just a concept art?

That image is from an animation test, so yes; I guess that's how it was supposed to look.

Edit: Here's the video in better quality. According to this article the test footage was shown at SIGGRAPH in 2005:
In 2005, Disney hosted talks at SIGGRAPH, a computer graphics conference. Glen Keane gave a talk and showcased concept art and summaries for several upcoming films, including Rapunzel: Unbraided. This was the synopsis for the movie:[7].”

The protagonists of the film were two teens named Claire and Vincent. They were voiced by Reese Witherspoon and Dan Fogler. Two small pieces of test footage were also shown. One was a treatment for the logo, with Rapunzel's hair flowing out the window of her tower. The other was a brief clip of Claire-as-Rapunzel speaking to a squirrel just after she was transported into the fairy tale world.

I still wish they would have gone with that look of that animation test. it looked so painterly, which was the original intent.

I wish we had gotten Glen Keane's Rapunzel with the painterly look like Kyle said.

C2E2 Recap: Zachary Levi Talks “Tangled"...
https://www.laughingplace.com/w/article ... spotlight/
Speaking of Flynn Rider, Zachary says Disney’s original version for the character had an English accent and they almost didn’t want to hear him audition. But his agent persisted and he got the role by using…an accent. Somewhere along throughout the process, a Tangled producer realized that none of the previous Disney Princes had spoken with a plain American accent and decided to make the change. Would Zachary be able to adapt? Fortunately, he could!
I think most princes absolutely do speak with a plain American accent??

All of them do besides Naveen. Even John Smith does despite his character being English.

It's concept art for an ex-idea. But back when Tangled came out there was a very weird Rapunzel doll ad where forest animals - including a squirrel - braid her hair.

Either it's a reference to a the squirrel idea or the toy designers just assumed Rapunzel had forest animal friends.

I wonder if the "real world" would have been regular CGI whereas the fairytale world had the painterly style. (Kinda like Enchanted but all animation.)

It's not concept art. That's finished footage. And the squirrel wasn't an animal friend in that iteration of the story. It was the real Rapunzel who got transformed into a squirrel. The girl looking like Rapunzel was Claire, a teenager from our world.

I just found out that even in the english original dub when Rapunzel introduces herself, Eugene replies by saying "Gesundheit" which is the german word for "Bless you"

Along with the dirndl she wears and so on, it's nice that all those german cultural elements are very clear in the movie :)

Glad that this confirms that the movie takes place in a specific sincere location :)
