I don't know, I'll be pretty satisfied if she doesn't.
And with this one, it wouldn't make much sense.
She has her wings, which she, at one point or another, lost.
For her to turn into something different would make no sense, because she could just magic up a new pair.

A pic of Maleficent with Diaval. I think this is the first time we've seen his
human form, right?
It came with
this article. It's an interesting read on what the movie will be about.

More and more, I am leaning towards the opinion that she will not change into a dragon, because she was a fairy before. It doesn't make a lot of sense anymore for her to do that, like you said.

But they said the dragon battle WOULD be there, but we may find ourselves rooting for the other side.

The new Maleficent trailer is out on facebook. Some thoughts, I'll put them in spoiler tags for obvious reasons.
- I do not think I like the fact she is 'screaming' the curse. I would have prefered it if she would stay calm... But I can't judge from that one short scene, I'll judge that fact when I'll see the entire thing.
- Smart how they had removed her wings from previous trailers. Now you can see how they have been edited in (for example, when she is somoning the wood creatures and the dragon-like thing from the ground. I think this 'big battle' will be in the beginning (not per se in the beginning of the movie, but the beginning of the timeline. Maybe they will use flashbacks).
- The forest of thorns around the castle gets attacked by fire. They are obviously trying to break the curse hard, not solo Philip.
Oh, and the biggest reveal...
- The raven is getting turned into the dragon, not Maleficent.
I've only seen it once because I don't want to watch it on repeat all the time. I'll watch it again tomorrow.

I love how she screams the curse, instead of saying it calmly, like in the animated film.

Eh,
Divial turning into a dragon is fine with me. But the new trailer was great though! Made me more excited than ever, for Sharlto Copley finally says a line in it, we get to see what Divial looks like as a human, Aurora questions who Maleficent really is.

I have been thinking about how this movie can play out for some time. Making 'once upon a dream' the theme song was a bit strange to me at first, but now I have this idea.
What if the movie starts like the animated version: Maleficent curses Aurora, she grows up, (we do see Maleficent watch over her but there is never a real conversation) and then she falls into the deep sleep.
Here she goes into dreams where she has all the conversations with Maleficent ('You have been watching me for all my life, come out, I'm not afraid', etc), where Maleficent tells her backstory (about her wings, the battle of the forest with the king). At that point Aurora realises who Maleficent is (is it true, are you Maleficent?) but she awakes because the kiss happens and helps Maleficent in defending the forest and stop her father because she realises her father was the wrong one and Maleficents 'evil' actions only came forth because of what he did to her.
The theme song would make more sense (I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream, ...) It'd be about Maleficent and Aurora instead.
Maybe this has been posted before or this was in the leaked script, I don't know, I haven't read it yet. Just a theory.
Also, during the season 4 finale of Pretty Litte Liars tonight on ABC, they will show a special sneek peak at Maleficent (maybe this is just the new trailer but I am hoping for more footage). Here you have the promo for that episode where they mention Maleficent (obvious spoilers for the PLL viewers among us who don't know
Ali is alive yet:
PLL finale promo.

I like the new trailer! Angelina Jolie is the perfect cast as Maleficent and the visuals look stunning.
Still sceptical about the casting choices for Aurora (she is to young and not beautiful enough for the part IMO) and about certain elements of the story, but I will regard this as entertaining fun and not something that should be compared to much to the original Walt Disney masterpiece that is Sleeping Beauty (1959). Bring on Jolie, eh Maleficent, I'll say!;)
BUT, when will we get to see some footage of prince Phillip?!

Because they gotta make Maleficent as much of an innocent special snowflake who has never done anything wrong as possible. She can't turn into a dragon herself, that would hurt people. Gotta use a proxy instead.
God I hope this gets curbstomped by Godzilla at the box office.

I'm gonna guess that, contrary to what many might believe, that this is actually a moment of good logical screenwriting. So, based on the leaked script and images and trailers we've seen, Maleficent
has her wings, but then they are stolen from her. This wounds her in a way that (I'm assuming) is integrel to the plot (note how she doesn't teleport to and from the christening a la the original, but rather walks in and walks out). The leaked script had her running to Stefan's castle at the climax and needing to ride a horse there to make it in time (this image is in a trailer and a released photo). Additionally, Diaval's whole purpose was because he could fly as a raven and she could use him, as she didn't have wings of her own anymore. If all of this is correct, it honestly wouldn't make sense for her to be able to turn into a dragon herself. If she could, why wouldn't she have just done that in the first place? Why would she need to ride a horse or even be upset about her wings being stolen if she could just turn into a dragon. Maybe it's disappointing to those wanting a more faithful adaptation of the 1959 movie, but it wouldn't make sense in the context of this story.

There's also the whole dumb Hollywood Superhero Movie rule of "You need to see a character's face constantly if they're played by a name actor" in effect. Maleficent not turning into a dragon and using Diablo as a proxy is basically the same thing as how, say, you always see people losing their masks in the Raimi Spider-Man movies, Wolverine never wearing his mask from the comics, or Robert Downey Jr having his face lit up by that cool in-helmet HUD thing in the Iron Man movies.

That's a good point lord-of-sith, that's why I'll give both Woolverton and Dini credit for writing consistancy with the new story (unlike Woolverton's script for
Alice which was inconsistant at best), and I'm going to see this with a fresh mind without the original 1959 movie's characters in my head, and instead, look at the new movie and story with an open view.

The trailer was great! Made me more excited for the movie! Count me as someone who loves Maleficent shouting the curse. It’s so powerful. I wish she was using her staff though instead of just her hands. Will she even use her staff? We only saw her use it once when she slammed it to make a forest creature for battle. I wish she used it more like in the original film. I wish the three good fairies also had their wands. I’m disappointed Diaval becomes the dragon instead of Maleficent, but I’m glad there’s a dragon and dragon fight against the main good guys at the end at all! And the fire forging the title in the trailer was cool!

Why doesn’t it make sense? She was a fairy in the original film and turned into a more powerful creature to thwart Phillip and the fairies. In this film she can become a more powerful creature to thwart those trying to stop her and her plans, like
Stephen, maybe the fairies, and maybe Phillip.
