UM...are you sure Evita is by Disney? I suppose it could be distributed by them, or made by a now dead branch arm of the company like Touchstone, but I'm so sure it's not Disney...anyone care to shed some light on this? I like Evita and would be happy to know it's Disney, but I swear it was made by Warner Brothers!

It was co-produced by Hollywood Pictures, a once-dead-but-now-revived branch of Disney. In its heydey, it was known for a few hits (like its first film,
Arachnophobia, and later films such as
Tombstone and
The Sixth Sense), but also for a lot of bad films (the horrid remake
An American Werewolf in Paris comes to mind). A recurring joke among critics was something like, "If it's the Sphinx, it stinks!", as the Sphinx was the logo/icon for the branch. Disney uses the HP label now since the Weinstein Brothers took Dimension Films (the primary horror/slasher label for Disney) with them when they left Miramax to form The Weinstein Company.
I haven't seen
Evita in a long time (the first and last time I saw it was when we rented the VHS from the library...about 8 or 9 summers ago). But I remember enjoying it greatly then and wanting to rewatch it one of these days. I used to see the DVD on sale all the time at Wal-Mart and/or Virgin Megastore, but never bothered picking it up.

According to imdb, Warner Brothers Records released the soundtrack, perhaps that's where you thought the association is from?

Welcome David!
I'm relatively new here, only been around on the board since 18 October this year.
I've been 'into' Disney practically my whole life, but I cannot yet give my top 5 of favourite DAC's. Too difficult to decide!
Beside Disney, my other great interest is life and works of Charles Dickens.
I know the 'Deviantart'website, I've visited a few times. Probably I've seen your work too, but I just have to return there to see what art you made.
It was once a daydream of me to become a Disney animator, but I've given up on this long ago. Your dream may come true!

I'm new...so why not introduce myself?

Um...hi! My name is Carolyn, and I came here by Dan (I think his username is PeterPanfan). I am new, so I think this is the right time to introduce myself. I think I am in the right board.
I am 13 (will be 14 on July 8th 2008), and I live in the United States. I live a boring life really, so I really dream of being of being an actress. I get embarrassed quite easily though. Don't even think of asking me to do a speech. I will laugh to death!
I am in 8th grade ATM. I am pretty smart. In 1 subject, that is in Math, I am very dumb. That is the 1 grade I tend to mess up in honor roll. *shakes head*
Oh my gosh, I could talk about movies ALL DAY. People think I am SO wierd. My fave movies all time are
Romeo and Juliet (1968) and
Harold and Maude. My favorite Disney movie of all time is
Sleeping Beauty. The animation and color is just... wow. If you asked me about my fave DCOM, it'd be
You Wish!, because... I dunno why. And I cannot stand HSM anymore - it is way too overrated.
I cannot stand any sequels. If it isn't broken, don't fix it, of whatever the saying goes. ~
I also love music. Just because I have nothing to do, I just stay lazy. I love almost all types of music. I don't really like certain types of bands, but certain types of songs. Like I said, I will listen to any time of music, except modern day country and rap. WHY do they call rap music?
...Well, there you go. That is about the lazy life of me. I hope I can help this forum any way I can. (I have nothing else to do....as you just read.)

Evita was produced by Cinergi Pictures, an independent production company started by Hungarian producer Andrew G. Vajna and during the 1990’ it was a steady partner of the Walt Disney Company (though they never released any Disney-branded films unlike Joe Roth and Roger Birnbaum’s Caravan Pictures did), and distributed by Buena Vista Pictures Distribution under the Hollywood Pictures banner in the USA & Canada and by Cinergi's distribution partners elsewhere.
Cinergi however failed to the make a profit in the end and their catalogue was sold to Disney in the late 1990’s with the exception of
Die Hard with a Vengence (which had been distributed by Buena Vista International overseas) and the soundtrack rights to
Evita (which is half the movie).
