Something this beautiful should be on this page, too.Sotiris wrote:The costumes look much better in person than in the publicity stills.

While Belle's dress is not as impressive as the one in the animated film, it works well for the aesthetic the film is striving for. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about Cinderella's dress. While her dress was pretty (and kinda tacky at the same timeDisney Duster wrote:I appreciate the originality in Belle's dress, but overall I dislike the dress and the Beast's suit. I agree with you Sotiris. Plus, why always compare this movie to Cinderella?Sotiris wrote:While Belle's dress is not as impressive as the one in the animated film, it works well for the aesthetic the film is striving for. It felt anachronistic and inconsistent with the film's overall production design.
I also agree. While I liked the costumes of Cinderella, they weren't period costumes and seemed more like fairytale costumes from someone's imagination .Mmmadelon wrote:I agree with you Sotiris. Whoops, sorry.Disney Duster wrote:There was one new clip in the Japanese trailer. The exterior of the castle during the day!
I really like Lumière and Plumette's costumes. They are not only historically accurate, but very pretty. I also now like their enchanted object designs more. I think I am ok with Plumette's peacock look now. Now it makes sense. The feathers of the part that dusts are supposed to be her peacock feathers. The only thing is it may not make any sense since it is male peacocks that have such feathers I believe, and she is a female!sweetjuliet wrote:More costumes on display;

I feel Belle's yellow dress sticks out like a sore thumb in the rest of the costumes from this film. All the costumes seem to be historically accurate to at least somewhere in the 1700's. But Belle's yellow ballgown...I can't think of any picture I've ever seen where anyone in the 1700's had a dress like that in the slightest bit! As for Cinderella's dress, it was supposed to look different from everyone else's dress, like otherworldly and magical, and I don't find a bit of it tacky. If you think the butterflies were tacky, I find they were done just right, as her sleeves would look naked without them, it's like something needs to be there and the butterlfies on it look perfect to me. They also of course add the magical element and the metaphor for transformation into something more beautiful, as well as her father's love with his butterfly gift to her added to the love of her mother in the dress itself.Sotiris wrote:While Belle's dress is not as impressive as the one in the animated film, it works well for the aesthetic the film is striving for. Great poster! But it's not official as it doesn't have the gown Belle wears in the film. As for comparing this film to Cinderella, you have to admit these films have similarities.Mmmadelon wrote:I agree with you Sotiris. Plus, why always compare this movie to Cinderella?
There's a new poster out as well (don't think anyone posted this one yet):

The costumes in Cinderella were indeed period costumes, just with some 40's, 50's, and fairy tale imagination mixed into them. If you looked at clothes from the 1800's you would see they are all very fitting, including and actually especially Cinderella's. As for Beauty and the Beast's costumes, I admit they all fit the period of 1700's they are supposed to except for Belle's yellow dress. It looks like nothing from the 1700's I've ever seen.sweetjuliet wrote:I also agree. The costumes of Beauty and the Beast on the other hand, look way more like period costumes. I like the complete look of this movie very much! Every things seems so right and very thought out!

Yes, I do see the similarities between these films. But I sometimes feel, and please correct me if I'm wrong, you're 'just' bringing up Cinderella, or pointing out a difference between Cinderella and BaTB, to 'prove' Cinderella is a better movie than BaTB. Like I said: please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't want to offend you. But I sometimes just don't see the point in comparing these movies. (And I liked Cinderella btw, I thought it was a cute movie)Disney Duster wrote:Great poster! But it's not official as it doesn't have the gown Belle wears in the film. Well because the original Cinderella is my favorite film, of course I wish for both Disney versions of Cinderella to be the better movies. But I think the original Disney Beauty and the Beast is the best Disney movie. And I want this Beauty and the Beast movie to be the best it can be, too, and I am looking forward to it, and it could be a really, really good movie, better than either Disney versions of Cinderella. But I have to say I am disappointed with a lot of the things we've seen so far. From the creepy enchanted objects to Belle's weird letdown of a dress to Emma Watson's acting to the CGI Beast I hope will somehow put real emotion into the film, I just am not sure this is going to be good. I bet it will make sooooo much money, but personally I think I'll be let down. Anyway, the reason I brought up Cinderella's and Belle's dresses was because not just me but other people look forward to both and see them as highlights of both films, and people have been commenting a lot on both dresses and people here as well as elsewhere have already been comparing them or hoping the Belle dress would be better than Cinderella's or as great as or greater than Cinderella's. And people here were badmouthing Cinderella's dress.Mmmadelon wrote:Yes, I do see the similarities between these films. Do you mean the trailer where it started with the Fairy Godmother talking about midnight, and then the trailer that came after that where it starts with Cinderella riding the horse and finding the stag? Cinderella had three trailers and so maybe Beauty and the Beast can!Sicoe Vlad wrote:Do you think we'll see a new trailer for the movie in January?
Cinderella had 2 trailers released both in January and February, respectively.
Well, the spot is certainly not the old trailer so it's new. As for Cinderella, I feel so much during that movie, but if you don't, ok.Mmmadelon wrote:Is this spot new?
I don't see any new footage, except from a very short clip of Emma smiling (also the thumbnail), around 0:48. It does say it's a Christmas spot, so that's why I thought it's new.
OK Disney Duster, thank you for your explanation. As for Cinderella being an emotion and dramatic movie: I don't agree with you on that part, but that's for the Cinderella topic.Let's stay focused on Beauty and the Beast in this topic.
