It has nothing to do with pandering, those depictions were and still are offensive. This isn't anything new, people have been talking about this for decades now. If anything, it's a case of "too little, too late".

Also, I can't believe someone would be that bothered by a 10-second onscreen message, when the alternative is to have those movies edited, cut beyond recognition, or even buried forever like Song of the South.

Well, maybe I never understand that the only alternative is censorship. There now even are trigger warnings for the 70's 'The Muppet Show', newly on Disney+. C'mon, I sort of understand with these old cartoons, but 'The Muppet Show'?" Give me a break!

Maybe it is because I'm from another generation, not American, and that I grow up with 'The Muppet Show". And I think it's wrong that 'Song of the South' is buried forever.

If it's any consolation, many of the movies of today will have those same warnings in front of them in 10-30 years. Maui in Moana, something something about the PoC characters in Frozen 2, Tiana and Naveen being in a non-Black form most of TP&TF, not enough SEA actors in Raya, etc. It's always going to be a moving bar. These movies will be offensive to some as time goes by. It's better to put those little warnings ahead of the films to satisfy the people who are pissed off than deal with the blowback that comes from doing nothing or, worse, having to censor a film or lock it away in a vault. Not that all the issues are unmerited, but these days the stupid stuff and the real stuff to be offended about all get the same level of anger.

I think SOTS is a special situation compared to other films because it glorifies slavery.

You forgot Pocahontas. And all the other movies where a POC gets turned into an animal. :P

I have mixed feeling on it. I'm fine with the disclaimer, but keeping it away from kids, specifically from the list of films kids will be able to browse through in the catalog worries me because, well I dont know how many of you grew up with cable and channel surfing but that's how you often discovered older films/tv shows as a kid, not always because your parents deliberately showed it to you, but from channel surfing and suddenly a film is playing that catches your eye and you start watching. By removing the films from the catalog kids can access under the kid's account they will never have an opportunity to discover them. Its how I discovered MGM musicals, I would come across them on cable during the 90's. And even before that my sis and I would come across and enjoy sitcoms from the 70s and even the 60s this way, even though we were 80s kids.

You mean it well Disney's Divinity, but the prospect that 'many of the movies today will have some of those same warnings in front of them' is no consolation to me. What would be a consolation is that they someday they will stop with these kind of things. Why should people who are offended and pissed off even by little things been given the power to censor movie or series in the first place? They have a choice not to watch it, simple as that, but they do not have the right to prevent others from doing so. If the bar keeps moving we will end up with no entertainment at all.
By the way SOTS does not glorify slavery: the story takes place after slavery is abolished. It does glorify Uncle Remus. Have you seen the movie?

I think that at present, more people are pissed off by the 'trigger warnings' in front of 'The muppet Show' episodes than by the content itself.

I am not sure if there is a release schedule for Disney Plus releases somewhere on this forum (and I apologize if there is, as this will probably be a redundant post) but I am just so excited that they will be adding "Adventures In Wonderland" at the end of April!

The only question is if they add the O.J. Simpson episode (though I very much doubt it).

So apparently, Disney Plus is now a real cable channel for those who have Xfinity/Comcast. I've done a Google search on this and I haven't found anything.

Nope, we don't really have that on here; I usually use https://whatsondisneyplus.com/. And I'm excited for AiW, too!

Disney will be going into the anime business once again.
Sources close to Disney in Asia, meanwhile, say the studio is looking to build out a robust team and slate of Japanese scripted originals, believing the category offers under-leveraged value. The studio also is said to be pursuing a more targeted, rather than high-volume, approach to anime, picking marquee hits that match the Disney+ brand.

So I just saw "The Sword In the Stone" on Disney Plus, but it turns out that Mad Madam Mim's opening dialogue was uncut. If it was edited, as it was in the UK, then they must have quietly restored in the meantime. In case you don't know, her first lines are: "Sounds like someone's sick. How lovely. I do hope it's serious, something dreadful." The bolded part was the part ostensibly cut, but apparently, in the U.S. at least, it's uncut.

I don't know how channels work in the UK, but the "broadcast" channel FOX is completely shutting down there? I mean, good strategy on Disney to include STAR so people *need* to sign up for Disney+, but that really stinks for people with rabbit-ear antennas and no cable, you know? If you live in a rural area with low-speed Internet, then you'll just have to buy things on DVD I guess. We are living in the future now.

Disney+ Will Likely Not Get an Ad-Supported Tier or Combine Disney+, Hulu & ESPN+ Any Time Soon
http://www.cordcuttersnews.com/disney-w ... time-soon/

To me, it does not make sense to have separate streaming services for just Nat Geo, SW, Marvel, Pixar. Maybe Disney I suppose, but I like all of the options that Disney+ provides, with Disney, Nat Geo, SW, Marvel, Pixar...

As far as merging Hulu and ESPN+ with D+: It's only a few $ more to have the 3-pack, and for those not interested in Hulu and ESPN, it's nice to not pay the higher price tag, to just have D+ (after the price hike in April, after tax I pay $9.03 for just D+ and I'm good with that).

If I had to guess at some point over the coming years there’s going to be enough new content on a weekly basis to spread premieres out over several days. As opposed to launching everything on a single day of the week.
