I believe Profile 2.0 players have ethernet connections that allow you to go online.
So do all the new Blu-ray players have that? Also does this mean that when you purchase the Blu-ray player and hook it to your tv that you can just go online just like that or is there more to it? I will be looking into this when I get ready to pick my Blu-ray player, because this sounds really neat

"Disney's classic fairy tale is finally being released from the vaults for a limited time only in this 2-disc Platinum Edition Blu-ray edition with bonus DVD."
I believe this means that it will be 2 Blu-ray disc and a bonus dvd. Notice that after it says a 2-disc Blu-ray edition that it says it comes with a bonus dvd. I am not really sure though, but this is what I think it means.
Thanks - it makes sense. I thought the bonus DVD was a perk for ordering it online from the disney store. I guess the only advantage to pre-ordering online is the 15% off coupon - usually they offer a product as well as the coupon. I guess not this time.

I'm not quite sure if they all have them - I know the profile 1.0's do not. I know the new sony S350 does have it as well as a few other models out now - and the PS3. I believe you can just go online but I could be wrong - I don't know much about profile 2.0 as I my player is a 1.0. I'm still learning about the new features that are becoming available.

Flower's Friend is right. There will be 3 discs in total if you get the Blu-ray version.
If you go on the
Disney Shopping.com page, and click on the extended description link at the bottom of the basic description, it opens up a window offering the details of each three discs.
ps. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the lithographs outside of the US? Specifically, Australia...? They look mighty pretty

Well I will for sure be asking a lot of questions when I shop around for my Blu-ray player. There is a lot that I don't know. This is one reason why I am taking a little bit of time.
I actually was going to wait maybe a couple years before getting a Blu-ray player. The way I figured it was like this. The living room is the main place I watch movie at so for now I will just keep my nice old tv (it's not a HDTV, but it's still very very good) and my 5 disc changer dvd player. But since I do want a Blu-ray player kinda soon I will get a Blu-ray player for my room and a HDTV. This way I can enjoy Blu-ray movies while I am waiting for Blu-ray to take over. Later in time I will get a HDTV and a very nice Blu-ray player for my living room.

I try and do a lot of research online at different blu-ray discussion forums - I ask a lot of questions myself! haha. You have a good plan - and there will be more options for Blu-Ray players in the future and TV's as well in the future.

So you are talking about this one.

I have been looking into this new Blu-ray player for Sony. The link is a link to Circuit City. I am thinking about sending an email to Circuit City and Sony and asking them about this internet stuff.

Yes it really does seem like 3 disc. I am still not sure if you can get the bonus dvd if you order the Blu-ray at another place though. The cast member at Disney Shopping did not seem very sure herself when she looked up about it.

No, this is a profile 1.0 player - the S300
check out the BDP-S350 (this is the new one).
Go to sonystyle.com and look at the blu-ray player selection.
They have great customer service in my experience - so I think they'd be very helpful if you contact them.

Yeah, I need to find out if this bonus DVD is a disneystore online exclusive or not. If so, I'll need to buy it online and in the store for the litho's.

I think I will look into some of these forums as I am sure they can be helpful. Hey maybe you would know something that I am curious about. Well I have heard some people say that a Blu-ray player will work on a TV that is not a HDTV. It would just now show as good of a picture. This does make sense, but I wanted to find out if it's true or not.

The Bluray will be 3 discs... 2 Bluray, 1 DVD... That being clarified...Only some bluray players are capable of internet access...If you don't have ethernet or fiber optic connections on your bluray player, then it does not have internet capability...If you have a playstation 3 (i believe all sizes) or many of the newer bluray players, you should have internet capability... That aside... the fact that they are including a DVD copy of the film in the bluray is a great selling point... I was planning on buying a DVD and BD...even though I already have the SE DVD... but this news saved me $20 !

Well, that must be a bit of a downer if you live in Alaska and are veiwing in Winter.

If you're looking to buy a blu ray player i recommend getting a PS3 it comes with built in WiFi and Ethernet connections, so if you have Wifi in your house dont have to mess with cables. it also updates to future BD profiles so you will always have the lastest profile. I have a PS3 and i used it solemly for play bluray, I only have 3 games for it. I have connected to WiFi and it's awesome! I recommend it!

Most of the players coming out now have them. The new Sony BDP-S350 is a good choice. It does have a ethernet jack. The BDP-S550 will be available later in the year. It will decode all audio formats and have analog 7.1 output jacks if you need them. It will also be $100 more than the S350. There have been a lot of good reviews so far for the S350.
The PS3 is still a good choice for Blu-ray, and the only player that has wireless for the network connection. It also plays games and it is a Profile 2.0 player.
The BDP-S350 is currently a Profile 1.1 player. However rumor has that it will be upgraded to Profile 2.0 later with a firmware update. The BDP-S550 will be a Profile 2.0 player when it comes out later in the year. The BDP-S350 is also supposed to be very quiet, and pretty small compared to previous Blu-ray players. I've heard different reports on how loud the fans are in the PS3. Some say they are annoying during quiet scenes in movies, others can not hear them. The only PS3 experience I have had is with my friends 60GB. Its not annoying, but you can hear it when the sound is quiet in the room. Its a very minor "problem", but the machine can do a lot of different things. The 40GB model is supposed to be a lot better at this than the 20GB/60GB/80GB models. Also if you plan to get the 40GB model and want to use it for gaming you might want to wait a few months. The 40GB model is being discontinued, and replaced with a 80GB model. It is different than the current 80GB model, and does not have PS2 backwards compatibility. It is the same unit as the 40GB, but it has a bigger hard drive and it ships with a Dual Shock 3 instead of a Sixaxis. It will also be the same price ($399).
If your buying now I would either get the BDP-S350 or the 40GB PS3. Both are around $400. The PS3 will be a little more ($20) if you decide to buy the Blu-ray remote. Also the PS3 does require an adapter if you plan to use a IR programmable remote like a Logitech Harmony since the remote on the PS3 is bluetooth.

so...you wont be able to play PS2 games in the discounted PS3? That doesnt sound that smart on their side.

Flam-Ham and
PhillipFan...I can't believe you love the parks more than the movies. I guess I need to remind you that the movies came first, and inspired the theme parks. In fact, everything in the company came from their wonderful classics. The walk-through was inspired by the magical masterpiece this film is. Pay the film the respect it deserves.
stewie15 wrote:looks like i will be pre-ordering from the Disney store. Unless another amazing exclusive comes up. I was thinking of buying it at future shop because of the steel books that normally come with the platinums. Ohh well maybe ill just buy it twice.

What are the steel books? Like the collector's gift set books in steel?! Not every Platinum got a gift set, but at this store Platinum gets a cool book?!

Steelbook, just one word, It's just a special type of case, like a digipack, only steelbooks are made out of metal.

Bleh, IMO the the parks mean more to me. The Haunted Mansion, Carousel of Progress, Big Thunder Mountain etc. are all things I care about more than Snow White, Pinocchio and Fantasia.
Disney stuff I care about ranked:
1. theme parks/resorts
2. Older Disney live action movies
3. about 15 of the DAC (Sleeping Beauty, Great Mouse Detective, Black Cauldron, 101 Dalmatians, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, The Rescuers, Treasure Planet, Winnie the Pooh, Emperor's New Groove, Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Sword in the Stone, Aristocats, Alice in Wonderland, Little Mermaid, Lilo and Stitch)
Also, I'm sure sliced bread came before the DAC so should I pay more respect to that?
