Very nice DVD & VHS collection!!

WOW!!! Awesome collection, Jeremy! I like seeing all the titles in a different language. That's really cool! I remember there was a thread about that somewheres...

What's the difference between a DVD and a VCD? Does the latter have bonus features? Is the quality the same for both? Do you need a separate player for both?

Wow! You guys have such amazing collections. I hope one day I can build up one as impressive as the ones you all have.

A VCD is much lower quality than a DVD... It is about VHS quality, or a bit higher (320x240?,) although there are also Super-VCDs (640x480?) that have a higher resolution. I am not aware of any bonus features on them, but I don't actually own any, either. Since they are CDs, they are limited to 650-700 megabytes (a little more than one hour of video,) so there isn't a lot of room for extras.

VCDs can be burned on the computer, using regular CD-Roms. You need a VCD player for them, although there are many DVD players like Apex that will also play them. Several of the older CD-based game systems will also play them, although they may require an add-on card (the Saturn, for example.)

VCDs were released commercially, mostly in Asian countries, although there were a few released in the US. Also, there were many bootleg VCDs a few years ago (no copy protection + high cost of DVD duplication,) although most bootleggers have switched to DVD now...

Hey Jeremy, Where did you get you shelves? I have been looking for new shelves for my dvds and those look nice.

Well, at least I got shelf 1, my computer is acting up, and going really slow!

I own a lot of VCD's as most of my family lives in Hong Kong. They are generally a bit worse than VHS in quality. They have acceptable image quality in scenes where the "action" is still or slow, but when the scence involves a lot of movement (i.e. Dragonball Z), you begin to notice an abundance of artifacts. One advantage, though, is that the quality does not decline with age or usage. Some VHS I have are starting to produce a lot of noise and grain due to its age and my excessive viewing sessions lol. However, the VCD's, bearing the same movie, is just like when I bought it. VCD's are very affordable too, I bought Love Actually for $3 CDN (yes, I made sure it was not a bootleg). Disney VCD's on the other hand, cost around $10 CDN. I usually by Disney R1 DVD's for the movies and VCD's for their sequels (with the exception of a few like Bambi II, which I thoroughly enjoyed).

Since I live in Finland, I think it's quite difficult you to purchase exact same kind of shelves as I have.
But for your information, those are made in Denmark and I bought them here from shop called Masku, www.masku.com .

Hey TheSequelofDisney, is that the order you put your Fantasia discs in the box, or did it come like that when you bought it? Because I put it in: Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, then the Legacy disc.

First of all, LUKE, I didn't buy these, I got them as presents from my parents/sibilings/relatives, and you forgot about the FullScreen version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets & the FullScreen version of The Incredibles. I personally HATE Fullscreen, and find it a waste of space on a store shelf. None of my parents/sibilings/relatives really know anything about the difference between Fullscreen and Widescreen. One time, when I was watching a widescreen movie, and my dad wanted to change the the TV so that the black bars would be gone, and I told him that the black bars are SUPPOSED to be there, and he said "no there not" so the whole "widescreen" thing didn't go through his brain. Another time, I asked my sister if Fullscreen was the most horrifically disgustingly vile thing on the planet, and she just said "no - what's the difference between Fullscreen and Widescreen?" and I told her, but she obviously doesn't understand. So, Luke, I had no intentions on buying these movies in the disgusting pan & scan versions, but at least I have the movies. That's better than nothing. So there ya go Luke, I didn't buy these on purpous. If you want to boo and hiss, boo and hiss at my parents/siblings/relatives not me!

If it's not too much trouble, it'd be great to see the Disney Classics in Finnish! If that's too much I'd like to see the Great Mouse Detective and Mulan!

Don't feel too bad, after 5 years of reviewing DVD's, Luke will never tolerate Full-Screen on any level.

We all hate full-screen, but sometimes, people we know like it and buy it for us. That's why I have two Fool-Screen titles.

Hopefully, I'll re-buy them in wide-screen someday.

My mom bought Walk the Line for me in fullscreen. My dvd player squashes it. I have a few other fullscreen titles that I mostly only bought because the widescreen editions were available. :\

I have a few fool screen titles too only because my wife likes the foolscreen. I like the dvds that come with both versions where you just flip the disc over. keeps everyone happy
