Thanks for posting, MoonMarc21! The person who leaked it did attend the Destination D23 presentation, so yes, that's where it must come from. I wish they leaked the other song too, but they'd probably get in trouble if they did. I'm not sure what version I prefer, but the final one doesn't sound bad. I think "This Wish" is nice, but I agree with others it's a bit weak for a Disney "I Want" song. Perhaps Disney should submit "You're a Star" for the Oscars instead since it seems to be the one that really stands out to people at screenings judging by the reactions.

As for the lack of regional music influences, I always wish they would take more inspiration from the music styles of the places where the movies are set as well, but it's true Disney "I Want" songs usually just sound generic Broadway or pop. Hopefully, other songs in the movie are more culturally accurate, like Mooky said.

I would rather either You’re a Star or the villain song of the movie sung by Chris Pine as King Magnifico for the song of Wish to be submitted for the Oscars.

Wish co-director Fawn Verasunthorn’s daughter gave her “approval” of the new trailer: https://instagram.com/stories/fawnv/319 ... BiNWFlZA==.

Looks like it’s about to arrive any day now.

This Friday I hope. According to Cryptic, the trailer has been ready since September 6th and he has seen some part of the new trailer so I don't think we have to wait till the last the week of September like with Frozen.

Maybe tomorrow? Trailers are usually released before fridays, so tomorrow or it has to be next week

Also Aquaman 2 trailer comes out tomorrow and many times we get big trailers from different studios the same day (as competition on purpose to damage that studio)

So maybe tomorrow at the usual time

I hope so

And yes I want songs are most of the time pop songs but I expected the song to have a little bit (at least) of influences from the Al Andalus

After listening to the song, I will say that I actually quite like it. I feel that it is better than "When Will My Life Begin?" and "Waiting on a Miracle" that's for sure; and equally on par with "How Far I Will Go". Not the best Disney "I Want" song in history, but still a very good/solid song on its own regardless. Ariana's vocals, Dave Metzger's orchestrations and some neat lyrical rhyming here and there do most of the heavy lifting.

We already knew the song was dull and generic when it was first performed by Ariana at the D23 Expo 2022. This shouldn't come as a surprise. It's certainly a shame the last few 'I Want' songs from WDAS features have been so dull and forgettable. Personally, I have no problem with Broadway-styled ballads as long as they are melodic and memorable.

I wonder how good the villain song will be. I'm not sure how good of a singer Chris Pine is but he must be good enough for Disney to hire him.

I don't know about you guys but I kind of want an 'I want' song like Somewhere over the Rainbow sung by Judy Garland. Like a sad, quiet song where the main character wants to escape her home life or in Asha's case, wish for better life for her family and people. Not all song needs to be loud and catchy to be impactful, I understand those songs are really popular but I just wish that Disney have more variety in their songs instead of singing in the same style every time.

I know I literally like everything, but I think it's really pretty. I like the melody and the lyrics aren't the most profound but they're not bad.

Glad that I can help D82! :D While I agree that the song is a bit weak for an "I Want" song, it does have some things that I like. I love the instrumental for this song since it has an optimistic, uplifting, and whimsical medieval vibe to it, great fit for the 100th anniversary movie, the lyrics are simple but the rhyming scheme for it is good, and I like Ariana's voice in this but there are some parts in the song where it feels off like when she stresses on some of the words. I think what would make the song memorable to Disney fans is it's visuals in the movie since I feel like on it's own, it may be unremarkable and sound like another typical Broadway song which they would not be expecting. However, that doesn't make me dislike it, it's a fine song with the instrumental being my favorite part.

I remember someone in a youtube comment section saying this song is too wordy. I agree with them because I feel like singer is running out of breath and speed running through the lyrics. Though I am sure it's just me, I'm not a musical expert and I can be tone deaf sometimes. Correct me if I'm wrong

MoonMarc21 wrote: Wed Sep 13, 2023 8:02 am So, somebody leaked the final version of Asha’s “I Want” song, “This Wish” and I can safely say that it’s legit guys. I’m guessing it came from Destination D23 when they screened 10 minutes of the film there. It’s a bit faster than what we heard back in D23 Expo last year and there’s some added instrumentals. Here’s the link.

Thanks for the link! Watched (heard) it now and the song is ok but I kinda preferred the singing style of Arianas live performance back last year, she had strong vocals there but here it sounds soo compressed idk. But still catchy

Sorry, but I don’t think we get the trailer tomorrow, since it’ll be buried by Aquaman 2 or Friday since trailers don’t usually drop on Friday.

I have a feeling it will drop either next week or during the final week of September.

Yes, the instrumentals are nice. The song itself has grown on me a bit since I first listened to it too, and while I don't love it, I do like it. I agree the visuals could help making it more memorable. The lyrics may also have more meaning in the context of the movie. Anyway, there are six other songs in the film; perhaps some of the others will be more memorable. If there are at least a couple that are truly good, then I don't mind if this one is just decent (to me).

Well, he sung in Into the Woods, so at least he has some experience. I think he doesn't sing bad, but I'm not a music expert.

Chris Pine also sung in Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, too.

I’m also doing my part to help raise awareness of this movie by telling my friends about it and showing them the teaser. Most of them are actually hyped about it and I was told that the teaser always played before movies like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Barbie, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem in cinemas. It’s also advertised well in social media apps in my country so majority have known about it which is nice.

You’re right D82, we still have more songs to listen and we still need to know how it plays out in the movie visually. Having to judge all of the musical numbers just by one song would seem kinda unfair tbh. It will be okay for me if “This Wish” is just fine as long as the other musical numbers are better than that one, but still I do think that it’s a nice song and I’m still listening to it in repeat since I really like the instrumental of the song

When I saw the presentation at Annecy's festival, the song "This Wish" was stuck in my mind days after while I can't remember the other song "You're a Star" which was ok but not as memorable (at least to me).
The second song was sang by animals in the forest if I remember well and it's the typical Disney foolish song with animals or objects we use to have in many films, which I'm not particularly fond of.
The I want song is better to me and Ariana's voice is great as well as the lyrics (I can hear castanets : aren't they supposed to be Mediterranean, Spanish or Portuguese?
Well, on a total of 7 songs in the overall movie, I guess there are probably 4 during the 1st act as I suppose one at the very beginning to introduce the settings and characters of Rosas, then "This Wish" and "You're a Star" which both happen in the 20 minutes footage I attended at Annecy's festival where the song of King Magnifico was not shown and cut to us, but should be there as well.

About the trailer, my guess is that it might pop up next week between Tuesday and Thursday.
We still have a few days to wait...

Here's attached a visual of the Teens on a puzzle from the illustrated style guide (not the final look of the characters) and a drawing of Asha, Valentino and Star for an upcoming figure.
Even if we don't see the Teens very much, except Dahlia as she is Asha's best friend, I'm excited about those characters, all different, and I love that the heroine has a groupe of friends in her life. It's very rare in Disney's animated movies.
Pocahontas has Nakoma and Tiana has Charlotte and... that's all, except the Big Hero 6 team and the friends Raya made during her journey.
