Good. I'm glad it wasn't that Ashley guy. Funny how nearly everyone in the cast so far has inspired this "better than ____" for me. Disney is a mess. Poor TLM. Thank God time travel isn't possible or they'd go back and mess up the original film, too.

Okay, fine.

He’s handsome, but he’s not the hunk-kind of attractive I expect in a Prince Eric. I’ve never listened to any of his solo stuff (I think? I mean who knows I don’t pay a ton of attention to who’s singing some random Top 40 song). If Menken and Miranda are only writing one new song for Mermaid, surely it must be for him?

The only solo song I know by him--but I do love it--is "Sign of the Times." The song came out at the perfect moment (early 2017).

Disney seems to have a real issue with male POC characters when it comes to their couples. Going by who they were looking at, it seems Disney didn't even try to branch outside of white males for Eric, which is just as racist to me as them not looking at any actress who wasn't black for Ariel, not even other ethnicities like Hispanic, Asian, Native American, etc. Very disappointed with Disney here. Even in their efforts to appear more inclusive, they come across as more and more calculating.

It appears that the earlier reports were wrong and Harry Styles has actually turned down the role: https://www.thewrap.com/harry-styles-li ... ince-eric/

Another false report from The DisInsider. At this point, he got more false than accurate ones.

What else did he get wrong?

I guess that means there's still time to find somebody worse after all. First RuPaul, now even Harry Styles doesn’t want this movie. I’m willing to bet this is going to turn out by far the weakest of the Fab Four re-makes. I only hope it doesn’t end up doing really awful and affect how Disney treats the TLM property in general.

Oh, so many. For this remake alone, the Zendaya and Lady Gaga casting.

I don’t think Zendaya was wrong. It was very clear she was in talks for a very long time and eventually passed, which isn’t surprising considering just how alienating Euphoria is to kids who would be watching this movie. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Disney and her broke down in talks after they saw a screener of Euphoria’s pilot. So I wouldn’t blame them for having that scoop wrong. The Gaga one, who honestly knows. But there’s always more to this stuff than the public realizes. Sometimes names are thrown out just to see public reaction before they even do cast.

I'm ecstatic at this news! I wonder if this means Asher Angel will be locked down for the role.

They must be saving the announcement for the D23 Expo.
Sources say the initial reports about his casting were premature and that Styles made the decision to move on amicably. The studio has already begun looking at others for the part and, according to sources, a decision should come shortly.

They're doing my favorite Disney movie so dirty and it's kinda heartbreaking.

Do you guys agree with this?
Why Harry Styles could never have been Prince Eric

Wow, what a dumb position that article's writer has. I guess they don't know that Disney has employed huge stars like Robin Williams, Glenn Close, Eddie Murphy, James Woods, etc. etc. in their animated films. If casting Mandy Moore as a Disney princess wasn't a jump-the-shark moment, why in the world would Harry Styles as a prince in a remake be?

^ Yeah, or casting Will Smith as the Genie, or Emma Watson as Belle, etc. It's called acting...
(btw, I absolutely love your siggy/avatar set!)

Kurt Morris: After Harry Styles passed on the role, Disney recently conducted tests with Dylan Minnette to play Prince Eric in the The Little Mermaid live-action. Harry Styles was never was never in the plans to play Prince Eric. Rob Marshall's interest in Styles started after a Twitter account posted that he would be competing for the role and the post turned viral.

Skyler Shuler: He did screen tests with Marshall and the producers all of which loved what they saw.

Kurt Morris: And you know why he gave up the role?

Skyler Shuler: As the trades state, he wasn’t interested, which I don’t buy at all.

Q: Is it true Dylan Minnette is testing to play Prince Eric in the Little Mermaid live-action?

The DisInsider: Heard that too but we haven't been able to confirm that, but he fits the age the studio is looking for.

Minnette is certainly a better actor than Styles, but he's not very attractive to me (not that either are as attractive as Eric should be anyway.... :P ).
