The Blu-ray was great, but the two-disc DVD release left pretty much everyone unsatisfied particularly when compared to the PE. I assume that's what the poster refers to.

Another excellent example!

But then again, this is common sense so Disney will never go through with it.
And Ferngully's Sequel wasn't attatched the it's family fun edition 2 disc release....but maybe that's for the better perhaps... :P

Ah yes. Well... nobody has any business buying the 2 Disc DVD release anyways. :P

Seriously though. Everyone needs to stop expecting Disney to put all their money into DVD these days. If you want to choose not to upgrade to Blu, that's fine; it's your choice. But don't expect the most powerful entertainment company in the world to sit back and not move forward.

I'm holding on to my old edition because the "Tale as Old as Time" documentary won't be carried over, since it's being replaced by "Beyond Beauty". Plus, it's got the virtual galleries with docent audio, which won't be on DVD, and will likely be altered on the Blu-Ray.

So it's fine if they don't buy the Blu-Ray, but they shouldn't buy the DVD either.

I guess I'll buy the laserdisc then!

Oh, wait...

Who was dissatisfied?? The Diamond Edition of Snow White was a fantastic release!
I think people who got the regular 2-disc DVD were dissatisfied as, like you said, the Diamond Bluray was chock full of extras but the DVD was pretty barren (and many preferred the '01 platinum in comparison). I didn't really care since the film itself was remastered from the 2001 transfer. I'm assuming they're doing that for the upcoming BatB release, but who can know until we actually see it?

Technically, that's not what he said, and it's taken out of context.

If you buy the combo-pack they've been touting so much, you do get a DVD even though you can't watch the other features until later, you can watch the movie itself, and as everyone knows, Disney care about satisfying the general public more even though they do have a reputation to maintain.

I know he was kidding about "nobody should buy the 2-disc DVD", since it was such a crappy set. But at the same time, it unintentionally feeds into the "Go Blu, Abandon DVD!" mentality that many Blu-hards love to proclaim, hence my sarcastic "So it's okay to decide to not go Blu, but I shouldn't buy DVD either? Maybe I'll just get the laserdisc!" comment.

Plus, there are still, and will be, people in the world (some on this forum are vocal about it) who don't want Blu-Ray and they shouldn't be forced to buy a Blu-Ray to get the DVD. Especially when DVD is still an active player in the home media field.

I'm so happy that we can choose which verizon of the movie we want to watch. I was worried that I wasn't going to be able to watch the version that I grew up with and have on VHS. Thank you so much for posting this.

Don't get me started on how dissatisfied I was with that stupid crap. A-My family can't afford Blu-Ray and at this rate, it'll be a long time until we will. B-My parents had to waste their money twice on that mess because my autistic sister didn't understand that the Blu-Ray wouldn't work so my mom had to pay over $40 for a Blu-Ray combo pack that has two BRs sitting somewhere and then she shelled out another $15 for that dumb DVD set (well, it was a check for my sister's Christmas gift, but still) that had NOTHING ON IT. I wouldn't have been that angry if all of our PEs still work, but most of them got scratched up because my sister doesn't understand hwo to put them back in the case and ugh. The only ones we'll be able to save are the second disc of BatB and I think our two Pinocchio sets are still okay.

So, we will not be converting and I will be the one continuing to rant about it while my family stares at me weirdly.

But, I'm going to try and be excited about BatB this year, though I can't stand that DVD cover. It's revolting. I miss the VHS days so much right now.

Color-wise, you might not [get the same version]

You got ripped-off. I only paid $10 for my combo pack.

Well firstly... if you paid $40 you got MASSIVELY ripped off as it was VERY easy to pick up for less than $10 for the first week or two. Then you paid $15 for the DVD... You could have almost purchased a Blu-ray player with that amount... Wal-mart has them for $78.

That would also save you from having to buy multiple copies of the movies due to them being scratched, as Blu-ray's have a protective coating on them that prevents scratches. Put that together with the $10 off coupons Disney releases with every major release and Blu-ray combo packs are almost ALWAYS the same price or cheaper than their DVD only counter-part.

Well, I'm very sorry. But it's your own fault. Disney practically BEGGED us to save a ton of money on that release, with a RIDICULOUS amount of coupons, sales, promotions, etc. I bought the Snow White Combo Pack (with the 2 blus and the DVD) for somewhere between $10-15. Spending $40 is just silly, and it's no wonder you're upset.

Next time do your homework.

You don't think I did my homework? Oh that's rich. I was telling my mom about all of the coupons and we go on sites that give us advice on that kind of stuff everyday and we knew that it was possible to get it for a good price, but we had absolutely no intention of getting the combo pack because my parents can't afford a Blu-ray player when they have to worry about things for school and bills. Like I said, my sister is autistic and she's heavy and she literally pushes and bullies people to get what she wants all the time. It is not easy at all to get her to back off what she wants and since she pushes around my mother more than my dad, I could see how she ended up having to buy the combo. And we didn't buy it that first week, it was probably a few weeks later and it was at Target if I remember correctly. So, it is not my fault or my mother's. Blu-Ray is just not what we want and even if they offered us all the coupons in the world, my parents still don't want to invest in it. So, obviously, I'm in no mood for another Snow White fiasco.

Well I'm sorry to hear about your situation, but to be honest you still have no room to complain about what Disney is doing. Your situation is not dependent on how Disney is releasing their films.

Disney isn't going to go, "oh, well there are families with extreme situations such as this, so we should stop making blu-ray combo packs. And we should stop doing things that make us the most money." I'm not trying to come off as rude, but you can't be mad at Disney for your predicament.

In my opinion, you should do what I did and start your own collection of movies, that you pay money for. So that you can then decide which release is right for you, and you can get the best deal you can for it.

DisneyPrincessSyndrome, I didn't read your whole story because well, I really don't care that much, but why in the world would anyone ever purchase something that he or she doesn't know what it is? It doesn't really make that much sense to me. I'm not attacking, I just don't see why this would ever happen in the first place. I'm just confused. Maybe I should have read the story first? I don't know. Whatever.
