My guess on the release is that in October they can sell merchandise for Holloween as well as additional items for Christmas too. The springtime isn't as lucrative.

Yeah but for 2007 the jungle book didn't really get anything, in fact 2007 was a really bad year for dvd. just saying

That's just because The Jungle Book is the worst Platinum title. :)

Pinocchio got a pretty strong release, IMO. Though I agree on other spring releases not getting what they really deserved.

I'm wondering exactly what new mechandise will be produced for the forthcoming Platinum Edition of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs as this is a major title in the Disney canon of work?

Amazon .com has listed an August release for a Disney Snow White book using the well known illustrations by Swedish illustrator
Gustaf Tenggren who drew/painted the original iconic Snow White poster image , he also worked on Pinocchio.

As the movie comes out in October there will be plenty of scope for Snow White/Wicked Queen/Witch themed Halloween giftwares!

thanks for the link, really some interesting pictures/sketches from the production and to see some of the ideas they had for the movie. I like the scary touch of some of them, also the article is a good read imo.

thanks for this link. Anyone else notice the mysterious missing limbs (of the prince and the horse) on the DVD only cover?

I dislike how inconsistent the bd covers are. the dwards look like very flat clipart, snow white looks like not-so-flat clip art and the prince and his horse are are properly shaded.

the only cover i really don't like is the last one with the evil queen in the center of the cover and it seems the dwarfs and the prince admiring her, also the position of Snow White is horrible here. I really don't hope they go with that truly.

Ugh, they're seriously putting the cover with the Queen-turned-hag in the middle out to the public?!?!? NO!!!!!! I usually don't care about cover art, and I wouldn't be buying that edition, anyway, if I were repurchasing this, but still...NO!!! Unless it's a halogram, then it just makes no sense.

And, thanks for that link, Deco King! Wow, does Ken Anderson's Prince sketches look just like the Centaurs in Fantasia!?!

(And, that site is taking forever to load, and I have cable Internet... :( )

I like the new Platinum DVD cover, should've used that for all 3 (4?) covers, it's less crowded and more attractive to my eye least in my opinon. I'm debaitin if I should sell off my old SW dvd in favor of the new SW I still have my old copy of S.Beauty's 1st "special editon"

atlanticaunderthesea wrote:This may seem a strange question to some, but I was thinking today about all of the Platinum Editions we have had, and their importance to Disney. It seems that Disney regards the film released in the Fall as their 'main' Platinum release .... or am I wrong ? The line originally started off as being one film, released in the Fall of each year, but then they added the Spring Platinum as well. The Fall release always seems to be more heralded, by Disney, the media, has more merchandise to support it, trailers, adverts etc, whereas the Spring release barely has anything given to its name.

Bambi was the first Spring release, wasnt it ? Then Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan, One Hundred and One Dalmations, and now Pinocchio. These releases didnt see the treatment they deserved I dont think. I was just wondering if anyone knew why Disney pays more attention to the October release, rather than the Spring.
Maybe you're right, but Pinocchio and Bambi were very good releases. The main problem here is that every Platinum Edition looks like the previous one. Not only in terms of bonus material, but even the covers are generic. That makes the weaker efforts stand out immediately.

Has anyone noticed that the words "Platinum Edition" are not present on either the DVD art or the Blu-Ray art? (Yes, I know this may change come October).

Neither of the artwork really interests me at all.

Well, there's already a Platinum Edition of Snow White. When a movie is re-released, they normally change the title... add a Special Edition, drop a Special Edition and change it to Anniversary or Collectors Edition etc. I wouldn't be surprised if now it's complete, the Platinum brand is retired and replaced with something else.

Why do us Blu Ray users get stuck with that awful awful cover? :(

You could just buy the DVD + Blu-ray...you'll be getting a DVD case instead of a Blu-ray case, but you'll still be getting Blu-ray and the nicer cover.

Oh my gosh, thank you Amy, I think I've finally got it!

So these are the releases:

1. 2-Disc DVD in regular DVD case
2. DVD/BD combo in a regular DVD case
3. DVD/BD combo in a blue BD case

One final question: Is no. 2 a two-disc DVD and 1 disc BD, and is no. 3 a 2-disc BD and a 1 disc DVD?

Now, on to the covers (since those are the most important parts of the release)

2-Disc DVD has definitely been improved, no more generic black background, but the apple is still an eyesore.

Now onto the combos,

My guess is the first combo won't be holographic, but the the second one will.

BTW, it's nothing new to have a Platinum Release that doesn't include the name "Platinum Edition" anywhere on the cover.

EDIT: Just remembered something... Is that the zodiac featured on the covers?
