So I've watched an upscaled-to-4K 35mm print of Beauty and the Beast and, despite the dirt and smudges, it somehow looks infinitely better than most home video releases of the film!
It even looks better than the original VHS release, namely the Beast's scenes before his reveal in the light.
Does Belle have a scene where she hums?

As far as I'm concerned, no.

Is it the preview Italian scan that has a few shots missing and the 4th reel has stabilization issues?

That's cool! Did you see it in the theater?

… no, I downloaded it.
I did see it in theaters back in 2023, though. And that looked pretty great.

I saw the same copy. I'm torn, because yes, these
are the colors I remember, although I have to admit, it may be a bit too dark, even for me. I think something that splits the difference could be amazing though.

Oh, where did you find it? Can you tell me too? I'd love to see it.

It's important to note that this isn't a restoration, not even an amateur one like other films. It's just a rough scan. It was planned to have the same treatment but they couldn't fix the stabilization issues so the project was dropped. I heard that there was another print but that was a long time ago and I have no idea what's the status currently.
So no, this isn't ideal. It needed to go through some sort of clean up and color correction, but it might be an alternative for some who really don't like the Blu-ray or 4K.

I mean, not to say I hate the Blu-ray or the 4K. I think the latter is an improvement over the former.
Also, Vlad, if you’d like, I can DM you where I found it.

Thats surprising, I would think stabilizing wouldn't be too hard, although you'd have to crop in a bit for sure. And yea, I can tell this isn't any kind of restoration.

Farerb sent me a link (thank you, by the way

), but it doesn't have Beauty and the Beast, only Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin and Mulan. If you can, send it to me.

I sent you two links. One of them has Beauty and the Beast.

I'm sorry for asking, but it would mean the world to me if you could also share the two links by PM. Ive dreamt of seeing this movie in it's full 35mm glory and I almost can't believe that it still exists.

Just for kicks, I tried to see if I could use my amateur color grading skill in davinci resolve to bring it closer to how I envision it should look. Its just a small bit of the ballroom scene. Its still not perfect though. I did try to stabilize it, but I didn't like how much crop was going to be needed, so I left it off. I chopped out some bits because I'm not trying to get a copyright strike.

I'm so sorry, Farerb, I didn't see the second link. I must have sounded like an ungrateful prick. Thank you very much

Thanks, farerb
I got a new external hard drive; I downloaded all the files from the links you sent me, and I put them on it. I managed to watch a few scenes, and boy, are they beautiful. As many said, even with the darker colors, they look so much better than the official home video releases.

Hey everyone!
Long time no see...
Damn, those segments of the 35mm print of BATB look almost 3D at times, with the added contrast.
And Kyle, you did a great job adjusting the colors. Not every shot is perfect, but it really brought back memories. And dammit, Belle's hair is BROWN again.
Fareb... sending you a PM hehe
