I agree with that. This is supposed to be a parody of fairy tales, not a Disney crossover movie. I hope they don't include any other characters from Disney movies. Something else I didn't like is Giselle making a wish on a wand. That's not how wands work. They are not wishing stars or wells. You just say some magic words and you point with it. It's very simple. It's surprising how they got that wrong. I'm guessing Edward is the one who gave her the wand since the real world doesn't have magic. Could that wand have belonged to Narissa? Or is it supposed to be the Fairy Godmother's wand?Disney Duster wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 10:54 pm I loved everything, except that the magic mirror has an almost identical look to the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs one. I just thought they'd do a slightly different take (besides just changing some red stones to blue) since I didn't think the Disney movies existed in this world.
Some VFX for the thorns looked bad, but other than that I think the visuals looked good. The costumes are not as beautiful and well-designed as the ones in the original, but they're not bad. Just kind of plain.
Those were theatrical releases that got turned into Disney+ originals because of the pandemic. Disenchanted was designed to be an Disney+ movie from the start. It got greenlit for this exact purpose. Unfortunately, that means it's not going to get released on home video.
Oh, I didn't realize that was the reason she turns evil either! I think it's quite a clever idea. Now I'm totally on board with "evil Giselle".
I agree. I said my favorite part of the trailer was the 2D animation, but also her. Like PatrickvD said, she'll probably be the standout once again.Disney Duster wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 10:54 pm Amy Adam's is acting the hell out of her character, with a new evil stepmother side the script writers wonderfully gave her!
I also thought it was bordering on garish a couple of times and some things looked a bit TV-quality to me, but I agree that in general it doesn't look bad. And, come to think of it, the garish elements might be on purpose to suggest this fantasy-like reality is not what it seems.
I'm also more excited for this film than for anything else presented at the event. I didn't expect I would feel that way either, since I'm usually more interested in the animated films from the studio. I don't know why, but I didn't find any of the new WDAS and Pixar titles too appealing this time.
I agree she's actually quite well cast.
There haven't been any exceptions? If Disney gave the film a limited theatrical run in order to qualify for awards, would that make any difference?Sotiris wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 10:22 am Those were theatrical releases that got turned into Disney+ originals because of the pandemic. I don't think there have been any exceptions yet. Disney has given limited theatrical releases to some Disney+ original shorts and documentaries, but none of them have received a home video release. Besides, I don't believe anymore that Disney is going to qualify Disenchanted for the Oscars. I bet they're going to go after next year's Emmys instead.

I agree, except I don't find anything garish!
I thought so, too!
Yes, it's not a Disney crossover! Though I do think it's a parody of Disney films, not just fairy tales, what with musical numbers and all. As for the wishing wand. I respect your opinion, and I know, I get it, wands are for casting spells, not making wishes. But making a wish and then waving the wand, that is also kind of how wands work. You have an idea of something you want in your head, like a wish, and you wave the wand to make it come true. I know, she may not even wave the wand. And I know, I know, why not have her make a wish on like, a magic gem stone or something? But they decided to make a wand grant wishes, and I actually like the idea, even though it's never been really done before in fairy tales that Disney made movies out of. It's still a magical idea to me.Sotiris wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 10:22 amI agree with that. This is supposed to be a parody of fairy tales, not a Disney crossover movie. Yes, I am agreement with all of that, too.
You know, being the standout is a really good thing for the star of the movie, so, that's awesome!D82 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 3:24 pmI agree. It has been 15 years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.
I've never noticed the lip syncing being bad in the original, but I guess I don't tend to pay much attention to things like that. Personally, I was referring more to the sets and costumes. In the original everything looked a bit over the top, but still classy, in my opinion. Here, the sets look a bit busy to me and there are lots of different colors combined. But, as I said, it's most likely intentional and has a purpose in the story. Also, maybe the fact that I saw photos of the sets during the shooting when they weren't lit, etc. has an influence on how I see them in the trailer. Anyway, I don't think anything looks too bad. I was actually relieved that the quality wasn't worse when I saw the trailer, given that, unlike the first one, this is a streaming movie.PatrickvD wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 12:44 am I honestly think it looks way less low budget than the original to be honest. I love Enchanted, but it has choppy camera work and clumsy editing. That’s How You Know, though one of my favorite Menken tunes, is poorly executed in the film. There’s entire bits where Adams isn’t lip syncing along properly. It’s a prime example of why films these days have pre-planned reshoots.
And don’t get me started on the CGI dragon. I haven’t seen anything in the Disenchanted trailer to suggest it’s a lower budget. I think it looks exactly as it should.
That would be great. I've always hoped they would make a special edition with new extras since the original didn't have many, but I guess that's not likely to happen. A Legacy Collection soundtrack that included some of the deleted songs would be incredible too, though probably even less probable.Vlad Sicoe wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 9:50 am I wonder if Disney will release the original in 4K to kinda promote the sequel.
Me neither. Actually, I haven't seen her in many films, as I don't watch many comedies, but I think she's quite funny. I'm curious what her take on the character will be too and if she'll be good at playing a villain. Also, since Giselle already acts a bit like an antagonist here, I'm curious what Malvina's role and evil plan in the movie will be.Vlad Sicoe wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 9:50 am I do love the new stills. I especially love Maya Rudolph's queen costume, she looks great. I've never seen her in a villainous role. I wonder if she'll be more comedic or sinister or both.
Yay! Everything is yaaay! Thanks D82!D82 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 12:07 pm The Cast of 'Disenchanted' on Their Magical Roles

I don't know. Is it the case of your country? In my language the word does exist and it's very similar to the English one: "Desencantada". Although, they've added a subtitle in Spain, like they did with the first film. Enchanted was titled Encantada: La historia de Giselle (Enchanted: Giselle's Story) here and the sequel is called Desencantada: Vuelve Giselle (Disenchanted: Giselle Returns).
