Saw the opening 5min that was included on the Snow White Blu. Very average and as far a Disney openings go, weak. Compare the opening to any of the other Musker & Clements productions and it just doesn't suck you in like those do. Even Treasure Planet, a movie I really dislike, had a fantastic opening that also started with a book being read that sets up the premise of the film, only it was much better done then the Princess and the Frog's. I suspect the movies starts to picks up right where they cut us off on the preview.

if this be the case, this counts as the third musker clements movie to have a slow opening act.

the greast mouse detective

I suspect that's the case. Remember that there's the song "Down in New Orleans", which opens the movie, shows New Orleans in its glory and Tiana's work routine.

I disagree. I thought the opening was very good, and my attention barely ever wavered. Comparing this to Treasure Planet is like Apples to Oranges.

I don't see what all the hate for into is about. I know it's not an over the top opening like say, Enchanted.... :P
Nor is there a big opening song, which is very... Disney sequel nowadays ;)

Yeah, I guess some folks want Tiana singing about how ugly that damn frog chasing her around is! 8)

I loved the way the opening scene paid homage to Cinderella, almost shot for shot... A wide shot, then it blended to a shot zooming up to the bedroom, then right as it gets close to the window it blends once again. Watch the two scenes, they are very, very similar... I can't imagine that was done accidentally.

Overall, I thought it was great and it already has me hoping they will include the work in progress version of the film on the Blu-ray release !

I thought it was done very well. It introduced many of the characters in a short period of time and we learn quite a bit about each one.

Charlotte: spoiled, but sweet girl who loves fairy tales and will do anything to live one.
Tiana: more level headed than Charlotte, but still a girl with dreams
Tiana's mother: Seamstress for the family, a working mother, rare for the time the movie is set in. She has dreams too
Tiana's father: we see Tiana got a lot of her cooking experience from her dad, and though he dreams, he knows it takes more than wishing to see your dreams come true and teaches this to Tiana. He teaches her "don't wait for that wish to come true, make it come true." pretty much
Charlotte's dad: a loving dad with a heart of gold and no will power when it comes to his every daughter's whim.

All of these people, Tiana grew up with and we learn in 5 minutes how each one of them has effected her when she becomes a teen. IMO, they did as much explaining in that short period of time as Beauty and the Beast did with the stained glass. We learn so much about why Tiana is the way she is in 5 minutes, that is no small feat.

Video look great. Feel sorry more for that cat than any other character lol.

I don't like Charlotte's design. Look fugly. And as a kid look like that shirley temple parody character in "Cats Don't Dance". I thought she will look like the drawing that dude who did those neat Repunzel drawings.

He's the one he did which I think much better look of Charlotte: Image

One thing I liked about the opening is how young Tiana is watching from the trolley the houses passing by. The mansions then turn into small, humble houses, which is where Tiana lives. It shows the great social difference there is between Tiana and Charlotte and how her dream of owning a restaurant is harder due to her social status.

I think that's fascinating.

To add to that, Tiana and her mother are shown sitting at the back of the trolley-car, which is historically how it was like in those pre-Rosa Parks days.

I was at the Disney Store today, and they had some TP&tF merchandise. Here is a picture of the 4 plushes they had:

There also were Barbie-type dolls of Tiana (with a small frog of herself) and Naveen (also with a small frog of himself), some kind of set that included a Ray figurine (I don't remember what else came with it), 2 different Tiana dress-up dresses (her green dress and another more elaborate green dress (?), plates and bowls with Tiana on them, a few little girls' t-shirts with Tiana and froggy Naveen, a cup, and a Christmas tree ornament with Tiana in her green dress (they had these also of other princesses, but sadly not Jasmine).
