Wow... I realize that's due to both increased ticket sales and the use of 3-D, but still. Never in my wildest dreams did I think the film would be this successful. I figured it'd make about $100 million domestically; I didn't even bother predicting a worldwide total. Now Alice is second only to Dead Man's Chest as Disney's most successful film. Wow. Just wow. Disney needed this hit badly, especially since: a) Prince of Persia's underperforming, and b) the only other surefire hit they have this year is Toy Story 3. Anything can happen with The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Tangled, and Tron Legacy, but I'm only expecting those to do decently at best.

The success of this film has raised awareness for the animated film, which makes me really happy. In the past couple of months, I've bought more goodies for the animated film than I ever have collectively. I hope this makes Disney consider adding Wonderland as part of its phase two in the Fantasyland expansion. Rumor has it they're having second thoughts about the Pixie Hollow area since the Fairies franchise hasn't been as big as they were hoping for. That area would be perfect for Wonderland. Just relocate the Mad Tea Party there along with a clone of either the Disneyland dark ride or Alice's Curious Labyrinth from Disneyland Paris. Throw in either a well-themed gift shop or restaurant (or even both), and you've got the makings of a great Wonderland area.

I feel the same way as you do.

And, hey, anything's better than "Pixie Hollow" so bring on Wonderland!

I was wondering where the best place to buy Alice is?

Walmart by Me is selling it for $26.99. I was trying to Toys R Us ad on line, they said something about $16.99 when you download a coupon but I can't read the website. Does anyone know what it is? And I wonder if it would work with the Disneymovierewards.com $10 off coupon. Thanks.

The Movie Rewards coupon is the same $10 coupon that Toys R Us is advertising.

In my opinion the best place to get it is Best Buy. Their exclusive combo pack is $26.99, and you should be able to get it for $16.99 after the coupon. The coupon would not ring up on their exclusive for me, but the lady manually took $10 off.

As far as the exclusive its basically a 2nd slip cover with 6 character cards that fits over the normal combo pack. You still get the normal combo pack slip cover.

My only problem was finding one that looked decent. A lot of them were bent and beat up at my store.

I tried to print that coupon earlier and I'm mad that not only would it not print, but when I managed to successfully find a printer that did, it said I maxed out the number of times I've printed! :x

Ok so I'm one of those slipcase nuts and I just got my copy of the STD edition of Alice from Amazon and it hasn't got a slipcase. Can anyone just confirm to me it's not meant to have one?

Info on Alice in Wonderland becoming an evergreen title (like TNBC), a limited theatrical run in the future, and this movie's version of the Mad Hatter in the parks:

Hmm.... Reading that article made me excited for Disney's future film endeavors for the first time in a long time. Okay, maybe I'm also excited to see Wicked when it comes out which is inspiring this Oz craze... But still...

If Alice can become the cult classic TNBC did, more power to them. I've yet to see Alice but I'm going to try and rent it (along with Sweeney Todd because I've been DYING to see that flick) sometime soon.

I wouldn't mind seeing Burton's characters in the parks so long as they're kept far away from the animated counterparts. The idea of having the animated Hatter at Magic Kingdom and the Depp one at Hollywood Studios sounds perfect to me. It'd be neat while they're at it to have face characters for Alice, the Red Queen, and White Queen. I'd definitely like to see the film become an evergreen for Disney, something that they'll periodically create new merchandise for rather than totally abandoning it like with Narnia and Enchanted.

I'm curious -- was anyone able to use the $10 coupon at Best Buy to get their exclusive Blu-Ray combo pack with the character cards?

A friend of mine tried to purchase the Best Buy exclusive pack at Pasadena but was told be told the coupon only worked with the regular combo pack, not the BB exclusive.

Just wanted to be sure if it was just that one store or if other Best Buys nationwide won't take the coupon for the exclusive pack.

I was able to use the coupon on the exclusive Tuesday night, but the coupon would not ring up. The lady read the back of the Blu-ray case, and looked over the coupon for about a minute. I thought I was going to get the "manager call" which is almost a guaranteed no at my store. I finally said politely that I was getting a combo pack, and the coupon was for the combo pack. She looked at the coupon again, and manually took $10 off.

Not sure if its supposed to work or not. The outside exclusive slipcover has a different UPC than the inside normal slipcover, so I'd say its a YMMV with this coupon on the exclusive.

I just saw the film, and I loved it! I enjoyed it more than I expected. Maybe it was because word on this movie was so mixed my expectations were very low, but I truly enjoyed this film from beginning to end.

Most people are complaining about how this isn't really a sequel to the origin al books, and how it got some things "wrong". First off, I didn't come to the movie expecting a very loyal adaptation of the original books. I knew beforehand that this would be a sequel to the stories, which would mean that it would take many liberties with the original stories. So what if the White and Red Queen are sisters? So what if Wonderland is called Underland? So what if the Red Queen and the Queen of Hearts were merged into one character? SO WHAT?

I know I know that there are many hardcore Alice fans out there that expected a loyal interpretation of the Alice universe. But to me, the film set out to create its own version of the story, characters and universe, one where an older Alice is a hero. If you knew about this and STILL complained about the inaccuracies then you need to check your thoughts once more.

It's not a re-telling of the books nor is it a remake of the animated Alice. It's a TRIBUTE of all of them and more. It tips its hat (no pun intended) to these classics while creating its own story. I think that if you see the film as is rather than what you think should be you should enjoy it.

Not that I got that mini rant out of my system, let me talk about the characters. I enjoyed the casting greatly. Sure there are some typical performances here and there, but all of the actors did great in their respective roles. Mia as Alice I thought was great, evoking the curiosity and wonder of the Alice character while giving her a complex adult side to her views on the world.

Johnny Depp was fun as the Hatter, though he wasn't as eccentric as I expected him to be. I agree with the Animated Views review of the movie in that this Hatter is more about him being driven to madness by the Red Queen rather than just being born mad (which is what the books suggested). There's a sweet side to him while there's a lot of anger. I really liked that aspect of the character.

The voice acting was great, though I wish Christopher Lee was given more lines as the Jabberwocky. I really can't get enough of his badass baritone :P . Helena Bohnam Carter was really good as the Red Queen while Anne Hathaway was wonderful as the White Queen. Even Crispin Glover was memorable, though he is being his usual creepy self (seriously this guy creeps the hell out of me!).

I was personally bothered by the CG environments in Burton movies like Sweeney Todd, but Wonderland was great. The design is simply gorgeous with inventive uses of color. It makes for a movie that is both very Disney and Burton. For once, I couldn't tell what was CG and what was the real set!

Like I said, though, maybe my expectations were low and knew what to expect. It goes to show you how much it helps to lower your expectations, regardless if you actually want to see the film. It seems as if people were expecting Alice in Wonderland to be the ultimate Disney and Burton film, or had the animated Alice so high in a pedestal that there was no way that the Burton version could reach it. I don't know, it just seems that the reason it gets mixed reviews is because people expected more out of it. I do agree that some things could have been handled better (I thought the movie needed a longer running time in order to develop some things). But it wasn't bad or horrible.

Or maybe Burton created yet another "love it or hate it" movie that only a few seem to really appreciate. Lord knows that I hated Sweeney Todd, but some people hail it as a fantastic film. Whereas I loved the Corpse Bride while others put it alongside the likes of Plan 9 of Outer Space...

You didn't even list the biggest change this film made from the books. It's all real. Alice never falls asleep, it was never a dream.

This is a very common problem for many fantasy films involving a girl/boy exploring a fantasy world. Many Wizard of Oz films take this route where in the original, its suggested that its all a dream, but in the sequel they realize that the world they visited was indeed real.

The Animated Views review compared this movie to Disney's other fantasy sequel, Return to Oz. Both are continuations of a classic story that take many liberties with the original source while still being loyal to some of it. To top it all off, they are very dark sequels where the sanity of the character is questioned (though, I think Return to Oz went too far by giving Dorothy electroshock treatment).

Again, like I said didn't come in expecting the most accurate representation of Alice in Wonderland ever so the changes didn't bother me one bit.
