Snow White Collector Book Set

This is not the Deluxe set, this is the (same?) book and the BD, for 40 dollars.

But, gosh, you're going to be able to buy Snow White in hundreds of forms!

well it is a re-release. Disney has to motivate the millions of people who already have the DVD to re-purchase another copy. (although im not sure if all these expensive collectors set is the way to go).

and it is the snow white and the seven dwarfs after all.

I like how they used the same art for the first platinum release on the +BOOK edition. Although the "box" that holds the logo looks lazy. Sleeping Beauty is still by far the best they've designed!

The book is something we already know about. It's not really new.

But this book will be in German! The original, you might say.

It also comes packaged in a box, the center of which has the old DVD Snow White on it.

Does anyone know what's in the Collector's Set book? Is it the same book as the Book/Blu-ray/DVD Combo?

A DVD is the sum of its releases. A Blu-Ray even more so.

I wish the slip case cover for the book and DVD was the actual cover for the DVD and Blu Ray. Sometimes less is more....and in this case it is. Love it!

I disagree. I don't think millions still have the old release. There are millions more that never bought the DVD, and by now, those that bought the DVD years ago may be ruined, unusable, lost... It happens. And it's not like Mary Poppins where a perfectly good DVD was sold five years ago and it was still on the market. Snow White was released nine years ago when DVD was new, and taken off the market very quickly. Snow White has been one of the most anticipated movies to be released by Disney fans. They could have released a bare-bones 1-Disc DVD and all of us would have bought it for the sake of owning it. (minimizing this b/c I don't want to give Disney any ideas)

Yes, but I posted it here because it was another new release. It contains the same? book that the Deluxe set has, but we didn't know Disney was going to release a Blu-Ray/DVD Combo with just the book only, did we? I don't mean to nag at you, I just wanted to point out why I posted this.

I don't know if it's the same book as the Deluxe Set has, but if we were to look at the pics again, I think they at least look different.

I'm so confused right now, but hey at least there will be more people who are confused. I am very interested to see how this goes down.

As you said, most anticipated movie to be released by Disney fans. The bulk of the people who buys disney dvds aren't disney fans like us. They may like disney, but aren't going to buy it just because it was the first disney full-lenth release and has some specky history (especially if they already have the DVD).

Perhaps it's a reprint of the Brian Sibley/Richard Holliss book which came out with the last Deluxe Video/Laserdisc Release? Actually it looks to me to be a much thicker volume than Brian and Richard's book!

In the UK with the last three Platinum Edition DVD releases Jungle Book , 101 Dalmatians , Sleeping Beauty (but for some reason not Pinocchio sadly! ) there has been a collectors book edition!

These are well illustrated little books and definitely worth picking up with production cels/pre-production drawings, storyboard sketches etc!

Go to any Amazon.com page for any OOP Disney DVD and you'll find parents griping about why a classic that they enjoyed as a kid is not available today. Some are new parents who didn't have children in '01 and didn't feel the need to buy the DVD, and others who had children didn't buy the DVD, but the VHS instead.

And I think you're underestimating the "Disney" name. It's means "wholesome classic" and everyone wants that now a-days. Plus, Snow White also has the "Princess/Fairy-tale" plot going for it. Really. Snow White is not in danger of underselling because an OOP DVD was released nine years ago.

That and Snow White went into Moratorium a mere three months after it was released.

I'm personally glad I got my copy when I did. I did not know it would go out-of-print afterward. It was the first time I really braved the movie, because when I was really young, the Queen scared the shit out of me.

Until recently, I would have agreed with you. But I've become a fan of all around classic films, and it startles me when I think of some the films I've have only just, gotten, anywhere from 10-4 years since it's original release, and if they did the same thing Disney does with Vaulting... That would not be good.

In theory, though, it makes sense. But it made more sense, and was more practical, back when Disney released their movies to theaters every seven years... Oh well.

It is odd. Walt re-released his films (apart from the extra money it would generate) so that every kid in every generation could enjoy the classics. Now with the limited release window on some classics, they did the exact opposite of Walt's intentions. That always struck me as odd.

This may seem a strange question to some, but I was thinking today about all of the Platinum Editions we have had, and their importance to Disney. It seems that Disney regards the film released in the Fall as their 'main' Platinum release .... or am I wrong ? The line originally started off as being one film, released in the Fall of each year, but then they added the Spring Platinum as well. The Fall release always seems to be more heralded, by Disney, the media, has more merchandise to support it, trailers, adverts etc, whereas the Spring release barely has anything given to its name.

Bambi was the first Spring release, wasnt it ? Then Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan, One Hundred and One Dalmations, and now Pinocchio. These releases didnt see the treatment they deserved I dont think. I was just wondering if anyone knew why Disney pays more attention to the October release, rather than the Spring.
