At the moment I'm afraid its rather poor, but I've calculated to the latest figures that £17.99 = $27.80 (closed decimal), so you're probs talking $27.99.

I'm very suprised theres no activity in in the U.S for you guys with it not being a Diamond Edition, is there even any guarantee you'll get it soon?

If you don't get it, then I'll just rip the DVD to HandBrake and upload for y'all, so at least you'll be able to see it in SD

Actually I live in Canada. And even though our dollar is close to the states', we just get hosed when it comes to blu-rays/dvds. Beauty and the Beast blu-ray is being advertised as $38.99!!! Grr...... Guess its a small price to pay to live in this beautiful country.

Yeah this is what I mean, Disney have tried to almost do too much stuff this year because of the take-off of Blu-Ray and their push for 3D theatre screenings. Its over saturating the market - I'd rather they just release (or produce) one quality film a year rather than trying to settle something for every part of the year.

I'm just hoping there will be more special features with this Fantasia release. I'll be so ticked off if there isn't even a 'making of' or featurette along those lines

The 'Disney Family Museum' sounds like what the 'Hyperion Studios' set-up was to Snow White

well i dont have the money too and i have a large collection of dvds and i just dont wann a have a random blu ray in it. and i dont even have the player.

I don't have a Blu-ray player yet either, but I've started buying the Blu/DVD combo packs when available. That way I am still able to watch the movie now on DVD and have the Blu for the day I eventually get a Blu-ray player.

I don't think the DVD format is going to go the way of the VHS anytime soon, so I'm sure we'll get enjoyment out of our collections for years and years (at least I hope).

Shouldn't it be "Walt Disney Fantasia" instead of just "Disney Fantasia"? Isn't the new "rule" that all DAC up to Disney's death get a "Walt Disney" above the title?

You will. VHS was an entirely different medium then DVD and Blu-ray, which is why it had a couple of things working against it. The tapes would fade/deteriorate over time and they weren't backwards compatible with DVD players (unless you invested in an expensive/bulky combo player). So since DVDs don't wear and all Blu-ray players can play them, I don't see them going anywhere (I'm holding on to my DVDs that I know won't be coming out on Blu anytime soon/ever).

As I mentioned earlier, Dumbo also just said 'Disney'. There is no consistency at this company.

Forgotten about maybe but not screwed. If anyone is screwed over it's us Blu-Ray lovers who get a useless DVD with 90% of our Blu-Rays now.

You really should upgrade though, you can easily get a player for $60.

This is exactly what I don't understand. You can still play your DVDs on a Blu-ray player. None of them, not a single one, will have to be replaced or thrown away. In fact, thanks to upscaling your DVDs will look even better on a HD display when you do get one (if you don't have one now). A Blu-ray player will actually improve for existing collection!

As for not wanting to have a "random" Blu-ray in the collection... I don't suppose you would have the same complaint if Disney released a "Collectors Edition" of Fantasia on DVD in different packaging with a book or another other physical pack-in included?

what a beautiful cover. the kind of cover that got me tricked as kid thinking this is a great fantasy animated film with talking creatures. luckily i was sorta impressed with the actual outcome and thankfully i still am. i just wish there's a spin off adventure with all the characters in one universe.animated.

and i hope asia gets the cover too..or rather get fantasia at all.

I don't see myself as getting screwed, nor do I find the DVDs to be "useless." I've got one HDTV and one BD player, and the number of folks I know who've bought into BD are in the minority. DVDs and digital copies give me more options for enjoying the content, especially when it comes to going places with the kids. The included extra formats may be redundant for my catalog title purchases since I'm upgrading films that are already in my collection, but the new re-releases are sourced from recent restorations so I'm happy to reap the benefits of better presentation quality (particularly with titles like <i>Sleeping Beauty</i> and <i>Pinocchio</i>).

stop the bitching aren't we over this dvd/blu ray stuff yet.

The problem that I have is that it would inevitably cost money to make a DVD and Digital Copy and I will have to pay that cost. I want a choice.

There's a free version of 'Digital Copy'. It's called HandBrake
