I'm saving myself the spoilers.

Maybe, but aside from UP, that's mostly just listing a title or two. For the most part, they do their trailers without self-reliance. On the other hand, Disney's pushing this like the Second Coming.

I just hope that all this special promotion is not going to hurt the film's box office appeal. Will it live up to the hype? The main reason why I don't want to expose myself to the trailers, promos, is that I don't want to risk getting sick of the whole thing before it even arrives.

This is a problem nearly all major releases face. You either promote the HELL out of your film or let it rot before, during and after release.
I think its important for Disney to promote this movie. Not only is it a big return to 2D animation they are releasing the film amidst a sea of CG culture.
We'll see if this pays off come December.

^6Maybe not quite. Audiences see only one type of movie these days, and that's one with familiarity. People aren't about to drop "Where The Wild Things Are" for "Law-abiding Citizen" or "The Imaginerium of Dr. Parnassus", because they're already familiar with the former, and something similar would apply here.

Wow thanks for posting the link, I can't believe how many books are coming out for the film! I've been looking at several books on Amazon, and I think I'm going to get
The Art of The Princess and the Frog, I love the cover alone!
Here's a link of it on the UK site incase anyone was intrested
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Art-Princess-Fr ... 262&sr=8-1
Is anyone planning on getting any TPATF books?

The sneak peek is interesting enough, and the stuff I've seen so far from the trailers etc. indicates that this will be an enjoyable film.
Trailers can often be deceptive, true, but I don't think that the film will rely as much on crazy humour as the trailers want us to think. I'm certain there'll be quite a few quirky moments but all in all the film seems to tread on the classic, emotional Disney formula (which isn't a bad thing).
Disney has a lot of pressure on making the film a success (hence the heavy promoting), and I hope it'll meet their expectations because it certainly has potential. It has pretty much all the elements of a success (sans Alan Menken, but Randy Newman's music seems competent enough from what I've heard).
It'll be interesting to see how things will turn out, and I'll definitely see this film when it's shown here.

Hey, everyone! New poster here. Really excited to be able to post on here after months of lurking and reading the discussions.
In regards to the first five minutes, that was really wonderful. I like the frog kiss clip more, but this was still great. Can't wait for December 11 to see the real action kick in! Interesting how they're not starting with a big musical number and instead focusing on dialogue-driven character development for the first scenes.
I'm guessing the first musical number will be "Down in New Orleans" when we flash-forward to adult Tiana.
Also, does anybody else notice how they're animated the scene where Tiana first meets Naveen to mimic the scene of her younger self at the window. She turns, expecting the frog to ribbit again and instead..."Kissing would be nice, yes?"

if thats really the opening, it harks back to treasure planet style. no big bang songs to impress the audience and a glimpse of the lead's childhood. i hope the rest of the film picks up pace.

Each week I get an e-mail newsletter from Blockbuster (I really have to cancel that, though. Ever since I got an online rental service, it's been ages since I've walked into one) and today I got one promoting Princess and the Frog plushies, that are aparrently exclusive to Blockbuster.

Oh WOW they are really cool, I'm hoping that the Disney Store releases Tiana and Naveen (in their frog form) Plushies

They look really cool! The first one made me giggle because of the look on Naveen's face.
