Absolutely.

They already did back in 2016. The Digital Cinema Package (or DCP) that was used for theatrical screenings for the 25th anniversary and repertory showings (Cinemark Theatre's three-year "Disney Screen" programming block, for example) is the perfect example of how the film should look. To cite myself from seven years ago:Vlad wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 3:40 amMeanwhile, I was thinking, do you guys think that maybe Disney will do another restoration for Beauty and the Beast as they did with Cinderella? Give it the proper presentation it deserves. Do one for the original theatrical version, keep it the same as in 1991, no changes.
Having favorite films on multiple forms of home media is a weird collector's bug I've picked up, but one that I don't see myself getting rid of anytime soon. I have more copies of Beauty and the Beast on home video than any other Disney film, although I have more copies of Casablanca than any other film, period. Pretty sure I posted an old blog article here about my collection, but that was circa 2020 with only 14 copies of the film. I've added more copies of the film since then, totaling 26 copies of Beauty and the Beast across five forms of home media: VHS, LaserDisc, DVD, Blu-Ray, & 4K Ultra HD. Most of these are US releases, but have been expanded to include editions from other countries as well.Disney's Divinity wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2024 7:45 pm I don't know how I've ended up with as many copies of B&tB as I have since it's more in the #12-15 range for me as far as DACs. I don't regret it though, since the film is a masterpiece after all, I just think it's sort of funny it almost competes with TLM for how many copies I have. And it was the first DVD I ever bought back (the Platinum) and then the first Blu-ray I ever bought (the Diamond).
The 25th anniversary screening at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills was a 70mm print that was used for the film's premiere, if that's the screening you went to. CineMark Theaters had a "Disney Screen" programming series that used the new 2016 DCP, which was also used by any theaters across the country that reissued the film for its anniversary. Throughout 2016, I saw Beauty and the Beast in theatres on three separate occasions - in May, September, and November - and they were all the new DCP.
Yes. That's why I knew it was the 2016 DCP.
Has Belle's Magical World been put on DVD or Blu-ray? I've never really searched for it, but part of me wants to have these things for completion's sake. Part of me knows that one day in a blue moon I'll put on some of DTV films just to see them again after so long. I'm curious to see it again now you mentioned it, since I don't think I've seen that one since it came out on VHS. It's a shame I don't have a VHS player that works anymore to put the VHS on. Too bad they can't come back into vogue like vinyl records have.
Belle's magical World has two different editions on DVD, the first one included a new story and the second one was released with the diamond edition with a “sing me a story with Belle” in the bonus. It has not been released on Blu Ray. Imagine how bad it would lookDisney's Divinity wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 8:55 pmHas Belle's Magical World been put on DVD or Blu-ray? @Escapay: I'm really happy for you having so many versions. I've always wanted to have Laserdisc releases for some WDAS films. Maybe I'll be able to get them someday--hope springs eternal.
I was watching some old performances of various voice actors the other day, and I came across a version of Lea Salonga had a fairly good version of "Beauty and the Beast" amidst some other things (also an early version of "Just Around the Riverbend" that she had been part of--was she considered for Pocahontas early on at some point? I wouldn't be surprised, I know Jodi Benson had briefly been considered for Belle). It was almost like if Belle herself was singing the song, since she was so young then. I need to listen to that video Sotiris posted, I don't know why it's never occurred to me to look up a O'Hara cover of the song.
On DVD yes (as it was finished in SD quality). But not on Blu-ray or HD in general. Ather than the titles, it looks like the episodes were done on film. I wonder if a new scan whoud make an improvement, I don't think so, but still.Disney's Divinity wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 8:55 pm Has Belle's Magical World been put on DVD or Blu-ray? I'm continuing the conversation in the Beauty and the Beast thread.Haralampos wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 5:41 amThe 3D version has almost no color editing of the original material because when they did the restoration for the Diamond edition release they didn't expected a 3D version and also the restoration material was not compatible. It's a rushed project of putting the film out after the theatrical 3D success of The Lion King. They went or used previously extracted layers from the CAPS in-studio digital ink&paint computers to create the depth and the stereoscopic images making the only version with the original 'problematic' colors as the monitor technology back then wasn't advanced and accurate as it became later.
I haven't watched the 3D film lately but I don't remember being dark at all, actually it's even brighter (and blueish) but haven't checked lately, if you prefer it this way. Also there's no way to watch the 3D version in 2D, just watch the left or right picture and I don't recommend, it's edited for 3D. There's no scanned film option available to see it as you remember it in theaters. They say there's a new version that you can catch randomly here and there that looks right but.
I mean, if there's ever a national reissue, chances are the theatres will get the same DCP unless Disney decides to issue a new one. Most of the information comes from the theatres themselves, or a quick e-mail sent to Disney marketing to get details. Disney's reissuing The Lion King to theatres nationwide next month for its 30th anniversary, it will likely be the DCP I saw last October as well, but I'll have to check when I'm there.Marce82 wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 1:07 amDarn... I would have loved to have seen the 2016 DCP in 2023... though there are no Cinemarks nearby. Hey, if you ever know of another reissue where they'll use that DCP, PLEASE let me/us know!!
Where do you find all this super detailed info about the sources of the reissues??
It's a fairly inexpensive hobby to get into as LaserDiscs weren't as mainstream as VHS, so they sell for reasonable prices online compared to the folks who think they can offer an open clamshell for $500 because they read online that the Black Diamonds are worth boffo bucks. What's really going to get you is finding a working laserdisc player, with a functioning remote as well. My first player died on me about a year into owning it, and my second works fine, but the remote died about a year into that as well. I can easily buy another one online, but can't justify to myself some of the more exorbitant prices that even a mere Pioneer Laserdisc Player remote costs secondhand. As I largely use my LD player for playback and not so much the frame-by-frame that the remote comes in handy for, it's a lesser priority for me to get one.Disney's Divinity wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 8:55 pm @Escapay: I'm really happy for you having so many versions.
