Thank you, Sotiris! I have seen the title logo before, but can't remember where. And Cinderella is in silver! This really is beautiful branding!

Yes, Lavendergolden, those kinds of songs did not exist back then, I would have loved Disney to do it first. But, you are also right, the song is more dreamy the way it is, so in that way it is kinda perfect as is.

Maurice Rapf never mentioned if Walt felt a certain way about Cinderella rebelling or not. He just said, "I don't think anyone took me seriously" on that version of his Cinderella script.

Yes, Disney kinda feels like it lost the magic today. :(

We disagree on how Disney Tangled and Frozen were. The only thing I don't like about them is Rapunzel's dresses and the titles. I am ok with the modern, American Princess and the Frog, too, I just wish somehow they made the film better. I don't mean in setting or visuals, but in the plot, characterizations and "magic". I can't even say how to make them better, I just feel they could be better somehow.

I think Lily James is beautiful, just less than Holiday Grainger.

I like the changes in color in Cinderella. Makes things interesting.

Yes, in the French dub Drizella's name is Javotte, and carolinakid got it right, it is from the French word for a female gossiper. Yup, in the remake she got to wear yellow as well. Though in the original French fairy tale she wears yellow as her day dress and red to the ball, at least the first night.

I am unsure which stepsister is eldest. In the fairy tale, yellow-wearing Javotte is the eldest. And when I watched the film all my life, yellow-wearing Drizella always seemed the oldest, doing almost everything first, before her sister follows. But why would Lady Tremaine have her younger daughter, Anastasia go first to try the slipper? In my head canon Drizella is older, but for some odd reason she lets Anastasia go first.

You probably figured out how Drizella got her name! It probably was from Drusilla! That way, both Anastasia and Drizella are named after royalty!

Yes, Cinderella and the Prince only almost kiss before midnight.

I gotta post this for Cinderella fans!:

I am glad you have come around to So This is Love, which I think is one of the greatest Disney love songs, and history attests to this.

I thought I remember reading that Cinderella was originally supposed to be more brash and outspoken to her stepfamily but Walt toned her down as he felt she was not sympathetic to audiences anymore. I assumed that version of Cinderella came from Maurice Rapf's version.

I think Disney is going to have a comeback if you check my recent "end of woke Disney thread" because the Tangled live-action rumored casting seems quite promising and like a return to normalcy. But I also don't trust Disney 100% so we'll see if they stick to this or not.

Yes, that's fine we agree. I completely disagree on Frog though. I can't think of any movie more pervasively evil and it's pure indoctrination for innocent children so I'm thankful most children are not exposed to that horrible film. Jim Crow era is disgustingly racist and the 1920s swinging period was not family friendly and has no reason to exist in children's films. Voodoo is a religion and not black magic or satanic as Disney made it out to be. Fairy tales were always Eurasian in origin, not American. America has no fairy tales except The Wizard of Oz which was written by Frank L Baum because he wanted to create America's own fairy tale. This is why Oz is super popular in America but not abroad and why Wicked has not had success internationally because no one cares about the American fairy tale except for Americans. Disney had a lot of hubris to try and culturally appropriate a classically German tale and transplant it to a nonmagical America in the sexually hedonistic and racially offensive 1920s. It doesn't help that the actual film is as mediocre and ugly as can be so it's not even a good product to try and overcome all the reasons why it shouldn't exist. As for Tangled and Frozen, I'm not that upset about the name changes because in Europe, the original names were kept. So they are still Rapunzel and The Snow Queen for me.

I think Lily is just okay looking. She looks better in Cinderella than in Downton Abbey where I was first exposed to her. I didn't like her character there.

I am curious if the color changes in movies like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty (Aurora's hair and peasant dress color changing from shot to shot) was intended or are failures to capture the original animation.

Anastasia may have gone first with the slipper because being the younger sister, maybe it was felt her feet were smaller as she's not as grown. And also being younger, she might be considered more desirable for the prince from Lady Tremaine's eyes. Remember that even in Cinderella 3, Lady Tremaine picks Anastasia as the prince's bride. She could have used magic to make Drizella his bride instead but she picked Anastasia so I think this means she felt Anastasia would be the better choice as the bride. Maybe it's none of the reasons I listed above but simply because Anastasia was more biddable (since she's the slightly nicer sister) and Lady Tremaine felt she could control her more than Drizella who is equally as rotten as her mother. So I don't know if the age thing is relevant to which sister tried on the slipper first, especially since you feel it was Lady Tremaine who let Anastasia put on the slipper first. Oh and another theory I have is that in Cinderella 3, we see the portrait of the King's wife, the Queen. She looks a lot like Anastasia. I'm wondering if when Lady Tremaine was at the palace for the ball, if she didn't see that portrait or any portrait of the Queen somewhere around the palace. Maybe when the Grand Duke blocks the curtains in front of her and she has to go back to the ballroom. I can see her wandering around and maybe looking in other parts of the palace and seeing that portrait and recognizing a resemblance. So maybe she picked Anastasia because she thought her resemblance to the deceased Queen would make her more readily accepted by the King and/or prince.

How funny that both Anastasia are now under the same Disney brand.

Thanks for confirming it's an almost kiss.

Beautiful cover as I said before. Should be posted in every relevant thread so its beauty can be seen everywhere.

I only know Walt cut the scene of Cinderella taking pleasure in hearing her stepfamily talk about the mysterious lady who danced with the Prince because he thought it made her seem spiteful. I should know if she was ever going to be made more brash and outspoken and Walt toned her down, as one of her biggest fans, but I don't recall ever hearing that.

Yes, we completely disagree on Frog. I feel any time period can be safely shown in a Disney film if done right and the way they depicted the time was not one of that film's problems. I also heard Wicked has been successful internationally, just like The Wizard of Oz, and how that movie has been dubbed in so many languages. By the way, the name is L. Frank Baum.

So we disagree a little on Lily James being pretty.

I believe the color changes are accidents of the original animation and not restoration errors.

I think the only reason you posited of why Anastasia went first that could be right is she was possibly what the Prince would desire more. Remember Cinderella 3 was made after the original and there was probably no picture of the queen to base that one theory of yours off so that theory does not work.

The Anastasia thing is a little funny, except Anastasia is simply owned by Disney, it is not part of the Disney brand.

I am glad you like the book cover so much.

Maybe that's what I'm thinking of then. You seem to be the definitive Cinderella fan so you would know.

We will have to completely agree to disagree on that but I think it's your American bias showing because you fail to recognize the complicity of your country's failure to address racism and are likely shielded by privilege. That is not inherently a bad thing if one can recognize it and not view it as an attack. I did not hear Wicked was successful internationally. I've been following its box office and it underperformed in other countries but that was expected. It's a domestic-heavy film. Thanks for the correction.

Yes, just one of a few things we disagree on then.

Okay that makes sense.

It could be any reason then but I do think Drizella was meant to be eldest.

It is part of the Disney brand because Disney social media accounts have marketed Anastasia as a Disney film or Disney Princess. Or Anastasia/Dimitri as a Disney Couple. She's also part of the Disney Emoji Blitz game. Disney+ I heard also features Anastasia in the princess collection.

We have come to a lot of super disagreements on a lot. Even disagreeing with what Disney should be doing with their branding (though I have to admit, Disney could be putting their brand on Anastasia, I just do not know for sure). I probably am privileged, but I don't think that's why I feel the way I do. We just gotta agree to disagree.

The scorebook came crazy fast, it was here Wednesday night. It came with a little glass slipper pendant type thing, cute. :) I haven't read the foreword yet--I'll do that sometime today now I'm off--I really only skimmed and played "The Dress That My Mother Wore" the night it came since I was tired. There's a pretty picture at the back of the book that says it was concept art for the film back then, basically a Happy Ending drawing with the Prince, Cinderella, and Fairy Godmother. It's probably something Duster's seen before since I know they know everything about the film, but I'll try to take a picture of it and the pendant later. :P

The book's very nice. I wish they'd make this kind of thing for all the music-driven films (I'd especially be ecstatic to have sheet music for all of Menken's score, no doubt).

Thank you for telling us all that, Divinity, and I look forward to pics! It's so cool you have a piano and can play. They need to do this for the Menken films, of course!

I came across this picture on Google. I never saw this particular clipart of her. It's kinda weird, because she has both slippers on, but one is on the stairs.

What’s on her foot? An ankle sock? Her foot should be bare under the glass slipper or at least some silk hose!

Vlad, I have never seen that clipart, either, and I think it looks cool! Even though both feet are slippered. I really doubt it is AI, though. Thanks for sharing the pic!

Sotiris, thanks for sharing the merchandise! The doll is...a little weird with the sleeve-gloves, but it is overall beautiful. I love that they are incorporating the transformation magic into the gown, and it's silver, and it's the 75th anniversary, so...I'm buying!!!

Yeah, I’m not sure how I feel about this doll based on this one pic. I will need to see better photos. But I am leaning skip, which tbh, is great news— these dolls are so expensive I celebrate when I don’t want them! lol

I do want the Blue Fairy doll very much.

I really like the Blue Fairy doll too. I just wish her hair were more like the 1930’s Jean Harlow wavy medium length style she has in the film.

Thank you, Brelly, that doll is super pretty! It is more impressive than the Cinderella one, but I still like the Cinderella one enough, for many reasons. My poor wallet! Be glad you might skip it! I suspect many will skip it. Could be good for me if I am late buying it.
