If they need money to keep investors interested, I do think they could easily change their initial plan, regardless of what was the original concept for Disney+. And what is happening with ‘Mulan’ is imo a huge step to this.
I agree. It's a slippery slope. I don't think it will happen with the Mandalorian, but it is possible with some other Star Wars or Marvel project. The door has been opened.

I agree, having a paid section within the app is confusing. I buy all my digital copies through Vudu and Movies Anywhere and now I’m paying $30 to basically add a movie to my Disney+ account but don’t get the digital copy myself? It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
I think if they had just put Mulan on regular PVOD like other studios did, there would be less backlash. What people fear is that if this experiment is successful, not only Disney will keep doing it, but other studios will follow suit and there will end up being a premium section on every major SVOD service which is terrible news for the consumer.

^ Do you think that services like Movies Anywhere or Vudu will eventually become extinct, and every studio will have their own streaming service, and eventually no one will own a copy of a film ever again?!? {Just pay to watch it early, a la Mulan?} (Netflix maybe will just have originals?) I agree that that sucks for the consumer.

I know I'm late to the party here, but $30 does seem very steep to purchase a single movie on a streaming service. That might be a good price for, say, a family of four as that's probably equivalent to what a family of four would pay at the theater. But I'm a family of one and go to the theater on Bargain Tuesdays where one ticket is $5 and then I can pick up the Blu-ray for ~$20 if I decide I like the movie enough. That's still under $30. And since that's physical media, I actually will get to own it; if Disney+ decides to shut down one day, then there goes my purchase.
I was only marginally interested in the remake anyway, as most of them have been mediocre at the very best, so this'll be an easy pass for me. At least until it becomes free on Disney+.

Apparently, Chinese people hate the new poster. They're more critical than fans of the original!
An official China poster for the film issued Monday was widely ridiculed online as “ugly” and “dated,” a bad omen for a $200 million blockbuster that has gone out of its way to appeal to Chinese audiences in everything from its casting choices to story changes and set design.
“Did foreigners design this?? Is this for real??” wrote one commentator. “It looks like you messed up your Photoshop.” Another echoed the sentiment: “At first I thought this was a poster put out by some cinema itself; only after searching did I figure out that this was actually issued by Disney itself.”
A number of people had fun comparing the poster to those of B-grade local productions, saying it had the look of promo for a straight-to-streaming internet movie or soap.
“It looks just like an anti-Japanese war drama,” one wrote, likening it to a popular type of downmarket television typically put on by middle-aged housewives as background noise to accompany their chores.
The chosen old-school font solicited a particular Comic Sans-esque cringe. To the native eye, the calligraphic text is more reminiscent of early 2000s communal notices put up in residential compounds to remind people to take out their trash than Northern Wei dynasty poetry.

Last straight line for
Mulan
It’s really a shame than such a visual movie with what seem to be grand sceneries and epic battles has to skip a theatrical release in most territories.. (better stay safe than imprudent indeed!) Regardless of the quality of the rest of the film, that’s the kind of movie that is absolutely meant for a theatrical experience (those who own a Home Cinema are the winners here.) But on the other hand
IF this first Disney pVOD attempt (or the first upcoming pVOD attempts) turns out to be a success,
Mulan will forever make Disney’s marketing history by being the first movie to receive a pVOD release on Disney+.
EDIT: nonetheless I still think that Disney should readjust some technicalities about this pVOD release. If they really want (and they do) to make Disney+ their own version of iTunes/Vudu, and if people are willing to pay $30.00 to own the movie, then they should leave the movie available through the platform for those who paid even when they temporarily stopped their Disney+ subscription.

The music video for "Loyal, Brave, True" premieres today at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET. Here's a
promo for its release.
Update: The music video is now out in both
English and
Spanish.
Christina Aguilera wrote:SO excited that the live action movie Mulan will finally be released very soon! Sept 4th. Right to your homes!! If you don’t already have it, get Disney+ now! It’s been a long awaited project that had to be postponed in the beginning of the year when all the theatres got shut down...but now we can reveal this beautiful movie and unveil the songs and music videos that I recorded in both English and Spanish. Including a reimagined “Reflection” to coincide with this movie’s score. A very nostalgic and special moment — seeing as this movie started it all for me. Leading to a record deal and the rest of my career to follow. Disney has always been the beginning of many magical things for me and I’m proud to now share this one!

When I first heard the song written by Jamie Hartman, from composer Harry Gregson-Williams' ‘Mulan’ theme, and sung immaculately by Rosie Golan, I knew it was perfect. What an honor to have it recorded by the incomparable Christina Aguilera, and a rare thrill to direct her in the video. Stunning digital images by Lisa Bolan at elastic.tv.

I'd rather wait a few months and buy a physical copy then support this greedy mess. God I hope it backfires on those morons.

It's simple, but it was made during the pandemic, so it's as good as it can be! I like it. The song is good, too!

It wasn't made during the pandemic. It was finished before March. It simply wasn't released until now because the marketing campaign for the film got suspended.

^ Oh. Lol, it's still pretty simple, but I guess most music videos these days are more simple than when we were younger! Still a good song, anyway!

I loved the video. I personally think the simplicity of the visuals was really pretty. Christina is better than the unfaithful re-make deserved.

Yes! Girl Boss™ I always thought the original Mulan wasn't feminist enough. I'm glad this remake exists in order to "fix" yet another weak female character.
