Maleficient is officially rated PG for "sequences of fantasy action and violence, including frightening images."

I actually don't mind the PG rating for the movie (saw it coming to). Let's hope that the "frightening images" are good.

I apologize if it came off like I was trying to make people react a certain way. I was merely trying to point out that all of the whining and bitching wasn't going to be effective and only giving the thread a really negative vibe to anyone with positive thoughts about the movie. Naturally everyone is free to give their opinions, but no one has seen the movie yet, so it seems like people are giving up on something they don't really know about before they've even seen it.

Sure there is. There is always that lingering possibility.
As I said before: They might not erase the original Maleficent completely, but they might show the new one more often. Maybe to a point where they might as well replace the original with the new one...
Not to mention that whole thing about
Angelina Jolie being the first thing people think of whenever they hear 'Maleficent'.
Hell, there are some people out there who think '
Once Upon a Dream' was an original song BY Lana Del Ray...
That's all normal for modern marketing. The original maleficent still gets some exposure, and the live action characters never take much precedence in the public consciousness beyond their movies.
Unfortunately, celebrities are thought of even when not centered in the films promoted. That's just plain obsession in the culture coupled with the fact that heavy marketing these days is defined by putting ads in every square inch of space possible.
As for the song, people are idiots. Especially on the internet where vocal minorities and stupidity are the norm. That said, I didn't even know there was a ballet until the blu-ray bonuses made that clear.

I'm on your side on this one. I think it's ridiculous to criticise any movie before watching it first. It's really not fair to the filmmakers who are working hard to make a great movie and yet folks keep tearing them down based on casting decisions and randomly assorted footage put together by the marketing team (which more often than not, the director has zero influence on). We really don't know what movie we will like or dislike until we watch the entire thing from start to finish. Wait until the movie opens, watch it (if it piques your interest) and then feel free to criticise it.

The only thing that's dissapointing so far is that Paul Dini will be uncredited for his work on the screenplay while Linda Woolverton has her name on it. Sure this has happened loads of times in other live action Disney movies, Homeward Bound for example, but it makes me wonder how Paul feels about all this.

It's ok.

So we're supposed to see and hear things from this movie, but not have or express any feelings on them until we see the film itself?
They put out pictures and trailers and a song. And what's supposed to happen is "Oh, look a new trailer I feel...oops, uh, nothing. I don't feel anything. Have to see the movie first." We read the leaked script and think...nothing. Gotta see the movie first.
We're not saying the whole film is one way or the other, we're just talking about what we've seen or heard. It's what a forum is for! To discuss all that comes out, even just the little bits we get!

The Writer's Guild's decisions in who gets credit or not can get pretty ridiculous. The credited writer of Speed, for instance, said that Joss Whedon wrote a large majority of the dialogue in the movie and yet for some reason, his name isn't in the movie.

That's true, I hope that Paul and Linda got along when they were writing this together, or else some horror stories about them fighting might make everyone go nuts.
BTW: I found a picture on Google that the inside of Stefan's castle is going to be a BIG pratical one, chandeliers and everything, just the top part that will be CG. The whole movie is starting to remind me of how the
Harry Potter sets were done. If you want to see the picture, here it is:

I remember when the Jonas Brothers released their (really bad) cover of 'Poor unfortunate souls' and there were loads of fan girl's comments on the Pat Carroll/TLM video '
OMG THEY TOTES COPYED DIS OF JONAS BROTHERS!!!!!!!111111! '
This is why we can't have nice things.
This is why I don't read youtube comments under Disney videos. Had someone comment how good the songs in Frozen were but 'A whole new world' written by
Howard Ashman was the best song ever. ugh.
I know this is unrelated but I needed this off my chest.
Point being people are idiots and someone will think that Sleeping Beauty is a quick remake of Maleficent and Jolie was the first and best and
'cartoon Maleficent sounds wrong and they like should have got Jolie to voice her.'

Actually the lyrics to "A Whole New World" was not Ashman, it was Tim Rice who did the lyrics after Howard passed away.

I know that. Whoever commented didn't. I guess he wanted to impress with his Disney knowledge and failed. I have since added a facepalm to my previous comment.

Now, I have NO SOURCE at all for this quote, but it has been making the rounds lately. It has presumably been taken from a report about Rick Baker during filming...
"It appears Angelina starts filming with prosthetics makeup designed by Rick Baker next week. She presumably turns into a dragon-like creature."
Again, this could totally be fake, but I figured it was worth noting...

Ow, sorry. It was supposed to be
this one. It is really mysterious and I love her ring. I think Jolie captures Mal perfect here.
Curious about the dragon. I think it's funny how they now made a hand drawn version of Angelina. I thought it was remarkable that they put merchandise of her next to Maleficent from the cartoon version
(based on this pic).
