Thanks for letting me know! I want the Blu-Ray as well and I'm pretty sure they will do it for this version because I pre-ordered "Enchanted" on Blu-Ray through the store and got the lithographs for it.

Seems Disney began to love us, lol. Finalley we get Gift Sets, own music videos (not that they're better than the americans) and slipcases.

YES! Hopefully it's one of those extensive ones the US gets. some of the "collectors editions" for 101 at Target and Kmart I've seen only offer additional leashes or are doubled with the soundtrack.

According to this article the bonus dvd announced on the disneyshopping.com SB blu-ray edition will contain the DVD version of the feature film... I hope this is true... but I'm also hoping there will be a collectors editions bundled with the blu-ray verysion...

Okay I don't have much time today.

I have put together comparisons of my 2003 Special Edition DVD and the clips that are probably from the Platinum Edition DVD and Blu-ray. But the new clips are a little blurry and fuzzy, well, I found them in a video of not the highest quality, of course they'll look way sharper and clearer on Blu-ray! Now, some of you will think the new restoration looks washed out or too light, but believe me from what I saw in that sneak peek of the restoration on TV, it won't be so light, it will look even better! Though I like the lightness. Look for richer, deeper, more stand out colors, like Phillip's cape, Aurora's dress!

The old DVD is on the left, the new DVD and Blu-ray clips are on the right:

And we're definitely getting more picture on all sides. That is a plus for me!

Thanks for the caps, Disney Duster! I agree that the video can't really be representative of what the restoration will look like in terms of clarity and color. The other films showcased in that video looked just as fuzzy and pale. It is, however, the best examples we've gotten for making aspect ratio comparisons. The frame may be wider than what was shown theatrically, but I think the new framing looks great. Things feel less claustrophobic (and I know the 2003 SE was slightly cropped beyond the theatrical ratio, so it's not a fair comparison, but still). And for those who may be upset that this isn't OAR: 1) your current copy (if you own the DVD) is worse; I'd rather have a bit more extra space than to lose a bit of intended picture, and 2) most of your CAPS Disney films aren't OAR, either.

I agree with the previous two posters. More picture on the top and bottom, AND on the sides, makes me a happy camper!

I'll definitely be upgrading/double dipping (which is rare for me), but keeping the original 2-disc version so as not to lose any bonus features that won't be carried over.

It's the collector's edition with the book that the UK got with Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians, this time it's for Sleeping Beauty, hopefully a Blu-Ray collector's edition too.

Oops, I messed up the code for one of the pictures, the one of Phillip and Aurora dancing. It's fixed, so now you can see it. At first I thought it looked bad because Phillip and Aurora look too close to the top, but in that scene they start near the bottom of the floor and work their way up. I like it now. Also, that's the screencap where I think you can see the bolder colors best. The red in Phillip's cape, the blue in Aurora's dress.

Also, thank you Disneykid for answering a question I was going to ask, which was whether the original aspect ratio showed more or less than the old 2003 DVD. So I think we are getting an ever closer, better presentation with this wider ratio.

Marky, I am really glad these new screencaps please you! You know, the newly restored scenes inside the cottage and with the dragon look more like some pictures I have of the film printed in a book called "The Art of Walt Disney"! And I like how it looks better, though we'll have to see the DVD to see how it really looks.

This is good news for those worried about the new restoration. At a pannel at the premier of the restoration last night with experts who worked on the film, how they made sure the color matched was they took original cels and layouts from the archives and took color photographs, in technicolor, or something like it, and then compared it to the restoration. They do this because the original cel of Aurora's hair is green so when they were creating the film they did color tests to se what colors would create the golod they were looking for. Also Andreas Deja was part of the resotration, with his passion for the clasic films I dont think he would allow them to mess with the film. The expert also mentioned that what I dont understand is the black and white negative as well as the three separate color negatives never fade, so my guess is that they restore mainly the deteroration.

Abouth the aspect ratio change he explained that when processing the film into the computer there was a preety large section that had been animated and drawn that has never been seen which will now be viewed. The restoration in my opinion was amazing, colors vibrant, and especially the background looked like you were actually seeing the artwork live. One of the most impressive parts was when the fairies shrink into the jewel box, the background almost looks like a photograph it was so clear.

You know, I always wondered about that. I have some Disney books from the 1970s and her hair color looks like a combination of green and gray.

Oh yea a-net-fan? I like how you quoted my big post with all those pictures just to say that. Well, it's your huge loss, because from what we've heard, and what we know, it sounds and looks like this new presentation will be closer to how it was originally, theatrically. Enjoy your 2003 Special Edition with some of the picture missing!

Meanwhile, thank you steven132 for that wonderful information! The technically savvy deathiemouse mentioned black and white and three color strip negatives or something like that. They never deteriorate? So we can always have the originals and know what they look like? I hope that's the case for all films!

I'm worried slightly over one scene looking so clear it's like a photograph. Shouldn't all scenes be the same clarity? Maybe that one background just has so much depth, shadow, light, and reflections, it's the most photographic-looking background Disney's made for the film. Well, it is full of shiny objects.

But I'm really glad they realized the film is not supposed to look exactly like the cels. The filming in Technicolor changes the look! Hopefully all restorations for all Disney films in the future pay attention to this and become accurate *coughCinderellacough*.

And me and Disneykid always thought Aurora's hair looked almost green!

Is it just me or do the lines look less defined in the new restoration (like with Aurora's supposedly golden hair or Maleficent's flames)? It makes the film look 'dreamy' that way.

I know lots of people are divided on this, but with regards to the new restoration and the new DVD content (I don't own a bluray player), is it worth me hanging onto my UK Collectors Edition DVD, and not getting this new version ? Or keeping both ? Or selling on my older edition, and just buying the Platinum Editition ?

You can slap me around the face with screen caps, and figures for the different resolutions and dimentions for the screen, but I still dont fully understand the whole process. I just go on how I feel about the picture, and if it is indeed to bright, washed out, or just plain different from what it was before.

Any help that you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated.
