I think it's somewhat obvious that Lotso's gonna be the evil mastermind, remember in the trailer there's a shot where it looks like he's manipulating Buzz (Buzz has an odd, angry face) and says (presumably to Woody and the gang) "You've got a playdate with destiny!" I wouldn't mind it at all... A cute cuddly toy turning out to be a wicked schemer is a chilling idea, and Pixar is gonna pull it off marvelously.

Btw I find it interesting that Jodi Benson (Barbie) and Michael Keaton (Ken) each starred in the movie they're arguably most famous for in the same year, 1989 (The Little Mermaid and Batman respectively).

I can see Lotso from a mile away with knife in paw.

however, he COULD be a good guy. I mean, I doubt they're even trying to pull a Stinky Pete. That happened already. And after seeing Ken, I can see him being troubled and having a dark side, but he might actually end up with Barbie in the end.

It'd be even more interesting if Lotso was pulled like Jessie in TS2, and ended up being a good guy while one of the other, less trailer-tized new toys turned out to be the real antagonist, and Ken-after going through good/bad struggles- turned out to be good. It'd be really twisty.

Not to mention it has happened already with Waternoose on Monsters Inc. Doing it a THIRD time would just be lazy.

Here's what I think MAY happen with Lotso...

Lotso loves Sunny Day Care. He loves it so much that he doesn't want anyone to leave it. When Andy's toys arrive, he is very happy and expects them to stay forever. But, when they are determined to leave he tries anything to have them stay. One of two things are likely to happen...

1. He is the mastermind and orders everyone to stop them at all costs, thus leading to the escape scenes.

2. Ken is the "Randall" of the group and offers Lotso help, all under the disguise that he cares for the new toys.

Then later in the film, Lotso finally realizes how much Andy means to Woody and crew and actually helps them escape. But then escape attempts are foiled by Ken and his crew and usurping Lotso as the leader of the Sunny Day Care toys.

Long story short...

Lotso starts as a friendly and caring friend, then begins to be manipulative, then desperate, then an ally.

Come to think of it... WHY would Lotso not want anyone leave? This is going to be interesting to find out. In Toy Story 2 the reason Stinky Pete wanted to keep Woody was because he wanted to go to Japan and become a collector's toy forever, and Woody leaving would disrupt his plans.

Lotso would be put in the youngest group of kids and be "trashed" as Andy's toys were. So, he needs other toys to take those places.

Delusional Buzz and Ken and Lotso acting good but might be the antagonist is really pointing Toy Story 3 to a bad film. I mean, Pixar has GOT to know they're using recycled concepts to not do it again! This really isn't understandable as it is part of a trilogy. So...they wouldn't do it I hope!

Well, early reviews say that Toy Story 3 is NOT a bad film at all, which means that the story does hold many surprises and twists. Jim Hill and many others said that at the screening they told them to not post spoilers, and Jim hinted that the last few minutes of the film were brilliant. So, many Pixar was smart in how they handled Lotso and friends.

Note how none of the trailers are descriptive of the film, save for the "Andy's toys are being given away to a daycare center" plot. The film could hide a lot of surprises, one of them which includes Lotso's fate.

I think I may have figured out the conflict at Sunny Side.

Think of Sunny Side as being a fraternity. Andy's toys are the new recruits that receive the hazing from the toddlers, while the elite toys (Ken, Lotso, Big Baby etc.) are given the older kids who treat them well. When Andy's toys challenges the structure by escaping the toys rebel against them, while some of the other lower tier toys (Trixie, Pricklepants) help them out.

As for Buzz, here's what I think may happen...

Andy chooses Woody over him. It's likely that he has some resentment over the decision. Lotso and the rest of the elite manipulate him to convince him that they are better off at the day care than with Andy. Delusional Buzz makes it even harder for Woody but easier for Lotso to manipulate. It's very likely that near the end Buzz will become an obstacle. But then snaps out of it and returns to normal Buzz and helps the toys return to Andy.

Thanks.

I confess that now more than ever I want to see the movie. Pixar has done a great job keeping the plot a secret. Yes, we know that Andy will be going to college and that the toys end up at a daycare. But we are still missing vital plot details.

I've come to accept that Lotso might be an antagonist in this film. But not to the same level as Stinky Pete. I have the feeling that Pete was always rotten in the inside, but hid it very well. While Lotso is at heart a good guy while Ken is the one that is slimmy.

Here's how I look at it...

Imagine that you are a toy. What type of owner would you want? Do you want the owner that takes care of you, plays with you and loves you, or the owner that destroys you, doesn't respects you and throws you around? I am sure that the upper class toys experienced this already, and fought hard to be at a place where they can be happy.

It's likely Lotso is fighting to keep that intact, while Ken and some of the other toys have a a far more questionable reason for stopping Woody and friends.

In other words, Lotso could be the Waternoose of Toy Story 3: a good, caring guy driven to do bad stuff because of desperation.

Wow, this was so visually appealing in HD! This is going to be unreal in IMAX!

Lee Unkrich says they have finalized the picture, all that's left now is to lock down the sound mix. will be 100% finished less than 3 weeks from now.

Also, not sure how on topic this is, but we have the first screens of the Toy Stoy 3 game. it looks fantastic. (this is the 360 build)

and theres one more screen here, as well as some of the DS version.

I cant wait to see the Wii build, as thats what I'll have to settle for. I hope they actually make an effort to make it look as good as possible. third parties usually dont even try on the wii.

^^^ Yeah the "3rd party thing" is one of the main reasons I got my 360.

I hope the Toy Story 3 game doesn't suck. The Toy Story game for Sega Genesis was phenominal, and the Toy Story 2 game for N64 wasn't bad, I mean I loved it, but I think it's one of those things where the movie bias affects how much I enjoy the game lol.

Hey, sorry if anyone brought this up already, but.... In the long trailer for TS3, when Mr. Potato Head gets dumped in the sandbox... When I first saw it, I thought it was some kid that was doing it. But it's actually Big Baby!

Maybe Potato Head was caught by Big Baby trying to escape and Big Baby's the Bodyguard or the Bouncer of Sunnyside...but I guess the question is...Big Baby a Bouncer for Ken or Lotso or Totoro (just kidding about Totoro) :P

Big Baby seems like he might be the "evil" toy and judging from that clip, I think I might be right...
