*laughs nervously in Brazil where we don't have Disney+ nor any hope that anything will reopen ever*
https://twitter.com/patrickadougall/sta ... 64161?s=21MULAN UPDATE:
I’ve been told the $29.99 price point is NOT a timed rental.
Once you pay for it... it’ll remain in your Disney+ account for as long as you’re subscribed to the service w/ unlimited viewings.
https://twitter.com/aliciastella/status ... 27744?s=21To be clear though, those that join Disney+ just to see Mulan and cancel after their first month would then lose it then, right?
https://twitter.com/patrickadougall/sta ... 38592?s=21Idk if “lose” is the right term, but you won’t be able to watch it without an active subscription.
For example: if you buy Mulan and Disney+ for a month and then cancel. You’ll still have Mulan available to you whenever you resubscribe for another month.
What will probably happen is Mulan will cost $30 for the first few months. Then the rental might drop a few months later when it becomes available on physical media (this happened with Scoob and Trolls World Tour) and then around six months later, they will drop the price tier and it becomes just another title on Disney+.UmbrellaFish wrote:Does this also mean Mulan would never join Disney+ as a non-premium title?
You'd be surprised. The release is already being challenged in Brazil by Claro. Brazilian cable channels need to have a percentage of its programming composed by Brazilian produced shows to promote national production, and so Claro is claiming that streaming services would need to abide to the same law or it would be unfair competition. It wouldn't surprise me if it's released in Latin America*Sotiris wrote:^You will soon. Disney+ will be launching in Latin America this November.

I'd assume so. No theater is gonna boycott Disney when the next 3 Marvel movies comes in and risk losing their share in the next 1bi hitblackcauldron85 wrote:Is Disney too big for movie theaters to boycott them like Universal?
It will become part of the free-trier Disney+ after some time. How long after though, we don't know yet.UmbrellaFish wrote:Does this also mean Mulan would never join Disney+ as a non-premium title?

If only that was enough to encourage Disney to rethink this horrible commercial strategy.. Whether you have interest in this movie or not, that’s an ambiguous way to promote pVOD. Too bad they set their mind this waySotiris wrote:Mulan: Poll Shows Majority Won’t Pay $30 to Rent on Disney+

I think Mulan is a special case since they invested so much in it that they want some of the money back.Clindor wrote:Now I can so easily imagine Disney making customers pay additional fees to watch “The Mandalorian - Season 2” and the Marvel series.. If they’re in needs for money and that’s what people want to watch, I see no reason for them not to do so.

I don't think that will happen with productions that were always intended for D+.
Couldn’t agree more. That summarizes my thoughts.Sotiris wrote:It would be one thing for Disney to release Mulan on PVOD first and after a while put it on Disney+ but having a PVOD section on the service is ridiculous and confusing. Isn't the point of paying for an SVOD service like Netflix or HBO Max that you don't have to pay for titles separately like VOD? So someone who wants to watch Mulan will have to first pay for a Disney+ subscription which costs $7 since they no longer offer a free trial and then pay another $30 to rent the particular title. I think this is unprecedented. I hope this experiment blows up in their faces because it's incredibly greedy and anti-consumer.
Seems to me this would’ve worked better if Disney had just said they were allowing it to be rented or purchased on Movies Anywhere and called it quits. I agree, having a paid section within the app is confusing. I buy all my digital copies through Vudu and Movies Anywhere and now I’m paying $30 to basically add a movie to my Disney+ account but don’t get the digital copy myself? It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.Clindor wrote:Couldn’t agree more. pVOD is pVOD, sVOD is sVOD. Two totally different services. Better keep them seperated.
Here, it really feels like Disney trying to make monopolization around Disney+, which still belongs to their old “Empire” approach. At a time of health and economical crisis, I don’t see the point anymore.

Waiting for more details about the technicalities.
