The Disney view option I think is for people that can't stand black bars at all. There are a lot of people that stretch 4:3 material on HDTVs, and even zoom films wider than 1.85:1 to get rid of the bars.

Burn in isn't a big problem anymore. If you have a Plasma you need to break it in (around 100 hours use), but even the newer ones very rarely get burn in if they are set up right. I wouldn't worry about it at all if you have a LCD.

I tested out Disney View last night. I didn't find it annoying. For the most part, I hardly noticed it was even there. I think the only times it distracted me was when the side image turned into starts at the beginning and end. But in the future, I will probably just watch it the regular way.


Lighthousemike, you are allowed to purchase the gift with purchases at Best Buy, so you don't need to trade your DVD. The Best Buy gifts are usually $5.99 if you are buying them.

Just got my copy of Pinocchio today from England and guess what: It has English, Dutch, Italian and Croation audio and subtitles!
I can listen to the Dutch version after all, so no need to worry Goliath.

Maybe I will watch the movie in Italian once: that would be in style since Italy is, after all, the country where the story was supposed to take place.
So long for now, I'm returning to watching the movie!

I got my copy on Monday but as of yet I've only watched the trailers (to see Snow White and Tinkerbell II) and "No Strings Attached: The Making Of Pinocchio" which I enjoyed very much. I am looking forward to watching the movie when I get the chance, maybe's tomorrow

I'd do it if I didn't have both already, it's a glitch so hurry!

I'm not sure if I want to just buy this on Blu-Ray even though I don't have the player yet....but I guess it would be fine since it comes with the SD as well.

I finally picked up my copy today at Best Buy, and lucky for me they still had a few of the 3-D cups left so I was still able to get it. I'll probably be watching this tonight. I can't wait, it's been so long since I've seen Pinocchio and it should be great on Platinum Edition.

But I don't remember the Dutch version of Pinocchio at all, I've seen it once, I think. I wouldn't dream of watching the film without hearing Cliff Edwards doing Jiminy Cricket!

I was watching Pinocchio before on my PC and I must say the restoration is so BEAUTIFUL! I am watching the second disc now. It is very plan the second disc. I am sure they could have added more bonus features to it. The bonus features aren't to meaty.

I hope Dumbo gets a release like this. It has been skipped on a good restoration TWICE!

Hey, I remember The person that did the review -luke,i'm guessing said that they would have the review by wednesday night, where is it . I 'm not trying to be mean or rush you though, you just said you would have it by wensday, so I had my hopes up.

It still is 11:00PM where he lives, so maybe he will have it soon before 12AM lol.

Well thank you! I actually think the reviewer knows what Disney dust is, and was just kidding with the term, using it in a "funny" or "clever" way (though it wasn't funny or clever...to me at least!).

Got the DVD yesterday, and I gotta say that the movie is better than I remembered it. Of course, the video quality is top-notch, but the extra's were done very well. I enjoyed it much more than the Sleeping Beauty release.

And, writing a review takes a very long time to do, because they have to go though each of the features, and the movie twice, or maybe even three times. They are many reasons why they review could have gotten delayed, but Im sure Luke will get the review up as quick as he can. He hasn't failed us yet:)

Since this is my first time watching...

I enjoyed the movie a lot...a lot of warmth to be had. A few things though...

...Why did the boys turn into Donkeys? I didn't understand that. Is it because they were doing things to make "asses" out of them?

...The bad guys never get theirs...not one of them!

...how on earth did Gepetto get in monstro? I thought a good scene to brige my complaignts would have been Gepetto over hearing Honest John talking about Pinoch, and we see him rushing to get a boat to save him on the island

Good questions, I think the reason they turned into donkeys was yes they made asses out of themselves litterally but metaphorically they will not end up to being much in society if they continue on the path. They will be in prison with no future and rediculed. I think that the bad guys never get theirs is because that although they are evil, they are not forcing Pinocchio into his predicaments its under free will. He gets into this problems after not listening to his concious and has to pay the consequences. Bad guys dont alwys get caught. Just like today the gang leaders dont usually force new members in they are usually talked into it.

I think this is one of the reasons why Pinocchio is one of my all time favorite Disney films and such a masterpiece of storytelling. Despite it having a lot of magical and fairy tale-like elements, that fact is very much true to the world. In the real world, not all villains get defeated, with con men and murderous outlaws forever on the loose. Danger, greed, and temptation can lurk around every corner, and Pinocchio learns the hard way through this. It's very much a tale that can be reflected today I think and show how even though you might have escaped it, evil and temptation may never forever punished.

Originally, there was an entire storyboarded sequence (which for some reason never made it onto the DVD for unknown reasons, like the Bogyland concepts for Pleasure Island, or the Phillip and Hubert treasure hunt sequence for Sleeping Beauty) done for the film that explains this. In it, Geppetto, Figaro, and Cleo all to travel out to sea to search for Pinocchio in their boat. They take a short cut through the Narrows, home of Monstro, when suddenly with a giant wave, Monstro emerges and swllows their boat whole ala Jaws.

I was a bit disappointed this scene didn't turn up on the Blu-ray or Platinum, along with two other planned sequences, and the three deleted songs recorded for the film were for some reason left out, but overall I think the Blu-ray was spectacular. The restoration was beautifully done, and I thought both the making of and cine-explore were both extremely informative and interesting. However, it still irks me when I read about stuff like this and find that they never make their way to the DVD and Blu-Ray. For instance, I thought Sleeping Beauty was a fantastic Platinum, but the absence of the deleted hunting sequence, and the songs for the goons Brothers In Evil, and another duet for Phillip and Aurora entitled My Beloved, still irks me a tad. Either way though, I still think Pinocchio is a great Platinum compared to the previous releases, and I'm just so happy to have it now on Blu.
